If you like action and 80's plots you'll probably like this

I you're accustomed to new manga you might find it slow but the action is really well done, with lengthy chapters. But there was literally one chapter to set the scene, cram two generations and then they give us a 20 year time skip ... I don't care how well the action is, there was not chance to sympathise with the MC (I sympathised more with the dam robot,, the only character whose context we know).

If you liked the first chapter you'll probably like the rest though be ready for cyborgs, explosions and carnage, rather than a fast advancing plot. At least until ch 22.

After the time skip there's so much action with barely any time for some flash backs. Of course as most manga references on other cultures come from Jap general knowledge and Wikipedia (which is better than no references at all).

OVERRATED

I cannot with this manga. Just flip off.

1) It's an exercise in depression. The whole "no character is safe" edgelord mentality got stale after Game of Thrones.

2) LATAM representation is limited to sex, corruption, and cartel violence.

3) All muslim characters so far have been terrorists or terrorist-adjacent mercenaries.

4) All female characters fall into the Madonna-Whore binary. They are either prostitutes or virginal Joan of Arc freedom fighters. Sometimes they get to be nympho freedom fighters. In all cases they are discarded like used condoms after fulfilling whatever life lesson or emotional pivot point they were supposed to impart to a male character.

I am being forced to complete this manga for a report, but I am ready to DNF at chapter 65. Believe me this manga is a product of its time and increasingly does not age well.

t's 10/10 for me. As I said a masterpiece. I highly recommend it to any Mature(not the genre), Manga lover.
Somehow I always feel this Empty feeling after reading this. Not a feeling of dissatisfaction but, just empty. Maybe I just wanted a more Happier Ending.

To the ones, who're thinking about reading this : Some of the first chapter maybe a little confusing, but, don't give up till you read at least three volumes. It might also get a little confusing in the middle, because of a Sudden Timeskip. But, read it, you will eventually became hooked to it.

Agreed, @MinatoAce. I've taken some advices here too to not have long break from this manga so to finish it all in one sitting at least few days binge, with great focus.

My rating said it all. Regarding happy ending, I think Eliah has stated it enough nearing the end with his gf (I forgot her name cus I didn't write this review sooner, I equally liked all characters) and who later had a baby together as a way to have their own happy ending.

This is really character driven sci-fi story done well.

this is good material. like said before, it's a very violent manga, where you will cry, laugh and instantly stick to the characters, which are really well made, for most.
the 90's atmosphere hasnt aged too much, tablets and phones aside, which is unusal.
(ie appleseed aesthetics have taken a bigger toll than this manga's)

this said, not softcore, not cuddly, not easygoing. drama hits you when you expect it the less, apart one character you will track the death for a few episodes, as the hero prepares for a smackdown.

BEST ADULT MANGA EVER.

This manga was amazing, it has every thing, incredible characters, fascinating science and technology theories, mature relationships, great art, the new geopolitical world created by the author is amazing. Eden is the game of thrones of the manga world . hands down the best Adult manga i read so far.

PS:First i would say this is not quite a post-apocalyptic, since just a small part of population died , and society it's just kept the same, the world it's not in complete ruins, but the crisis severely change the world geopolitical order.

“ You're alone at the time of your birth, you're alone at the time of your death, Again. ”

It's an Awesome manga. It has a very deep story and blood boiling, emotional moments. Every single important character has their unique characteristic.

It's a Reality-like story. You'll discover bitter/hellish life of people around the world. You'll witnesses cruel truths like Murders, Drug, Rape, Prostitution, Racial Discrimination, Ethical Cleansing, Politics etc. It got many sad moments. Many characters death. Even villains have, depth past.

It's 10/10 for me. As I said a masterpiece. I highly recommend it to any Mature(not the genre), Manga lover.

Good Story, Well Told, but Potentially Misleading

This has a terrific post-apocalypse setting, and excellent presentation of it and many ideas about same. Also offers truly fine, realistic drawing and characters, and good pacing.

Where I am reading in it now, though, it's morphed into the usual manga/anime Heroic Battle mode. The presentation of all this hyper-violent heroism--by soldiers who actually but unnaturally manage to stay ALIVE through their section of the manga--thoroughly undermines all the story's previous blather about how bad people killing each other is. Kind of reminds me of the prologue to World War I, where Europeans societies armed themselves to the teeth with killing machinery while telling their potential cannon fodder how great it would be to fight and die for their country.

When the whole continent finally actually went to war after almost 100 years of that, the said killing machinery slaughtered those brave young people in unbelievable numbers. Most soldiers didn't stay alive long enough to discover any Opportunities for Glorious Heroism. And the War then degenerated into a trench warfare stalemate during which similar, and worse, slaughter continued for 3 years.

After another round of similar slaughter in WWII, Europe and Japan had learned their lesson--for a while. I hope they don't forget. Popular stories of individual heroism in mechanized warfare like this, however, can gradually set us all up for another round of slaughter.

A Good Read

Post-apocalypse setting is not really my thing and all the talk about science stuff kinda gets me lost but i still got hooked on the series and in just 2 days I've completed it!

The series started good but halfway it went a bit downhill but still i enjoyed reading it.
I also loved the characters all of them are well developed even the villains especially the main character Elijah BUT
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it was kind of a bummer for me how he didn't had any major role in the end part of the series he was put onto the sidelines and one thing i did not like is how the mangaka left plot holes like who created Maya and what happended to the universe the colloid created

It's good as far as post-apocalyptic series go. You'll get more out of this one than other series.

However, I wasn't and probably won't be a fan of Eden. This is partially because I have a general dislike for post apocalyptic settings, but it's also because the overall theme came out superficial for me. This(I think) is ruined because it's a manga. It rubs you the wrong way when something of this tone goes through a chapter by chapter publication (since the storyboard gets screwed up).

tl;dr - good read for most people, depressing series, may or may not like the storyline itself (hit or miss thing)

Outstanding manga.

Finally got around to re-reading the whole thing.

Eden is great. The art, characters (+development), delivery, and plot are some of the best I've encountered in manga (though not the best, hence the 9).

I feel like Eden started off very very strong, faltered in the middle, and the ending was slightly forgettable. Definitely biased since I personally adore plots with time frame jumps that come together as more information comes to light.

I feel like the emotions were very poignant in the first few volumes - the lines were brilliant and the delivery was almost flawless. It was so good that I put my rose-colored glasses on and ignored the first few missteps later on. Somewhere in the middle (during the arc when Miriam was introduced, I think) I stopped feeling that way, because the story became more about mafia back-stabbing and delving into the darkness of society, but with Eliah being completely weird with his humor. Sorry Endou, but that premise has been well-explored and you didn't really bring anything new to the table.

Then somehow it jumped back into the thought-provoking time frame jumps, but still, it was less heartfelt than before. Maybe I've just watched too many documentaries, but all talking about all those world issues without an intensely personal story weaved in was a bit bland. It sort of redeemed itself because it put in all those allusions to Gnosticism, which I've read a lot about, so I felt like I got more out of it than Endou intended because I was reading too much into everything. The ending definitely could have been delivered in a better way, and the message could've had so much more impact. But at least there was a sense of closure, which was nice.

So there you go, another wall of text about Eden. XD Read it, it's definitely one of the better mangas out there!
