Description
After her normal, happy life shatters, Tokiko and her father move to a small seaside town to live with her grandmother as sixth grade starts. There, the sound of the waves brings back a distant memory from when she visited seven years ago, a memory of almost drowning in the sea and being saved by a merman. Are there really mermaids in that sea? Tokiko adjusts to her new life in the small town as she holds out hope of once more meeting the merman who saved her.

I really enjoyed this one.
The author did a great job with establishing the atmosphere of a quaint coastal town -- it feels very real and vivid. The art style is also part of the charm.

A very different artstyle from what I have encountered before, this story is just beautiful.. from the setting to the characters, really beautiful. 🙂

A nice read.

I liked the comparison of the depths of the heart to the depths of the sea, the glistening of a tear to that of the sea.

A beautiful and moving story of growing up, learning answers to mysteries and dealing with tragedy in one's life while meeting and making new friends. The art is lovely, simple and just childish enough to evke the feelings of being 11 and trying to understand the world around you.

This manga is beautiful. The art style is fantastic and very unique, and the writing is superbly subtle. Tokiko's memories are slowly revealed as she experiences the places and meets people of the town. As her stay continues, the reader learns more about her background and why she has come to the town.

The various twists throughout kept me guessing about the secret the villagers kept so carefully. In the end, it all came together elegantly--though with a kind of uneasy feel. The tone was excellent, skirting the line between cute and creepy. It reminded me a bit of Neil Gaiman's children's books, though not nearly as extreme.

To clarify (as some of the tags are a little strange), Tokiko's love interest isn't the merman who rescued her, but a boy in her class who resembles him.
