Hakka-ya's debut original series!
Rating: 7.5 / 10.0

For anyone who is unaware, the author of this series is also known as Hakka-ya. Under the name Hakka-ya they published many iconic yuri doujins and have developed a passionate cult following. Hakka-ya's doujins are known for their dramatic, heavy, and haunting atmosphere as well as their excellent romance. This is Hakka-ya's first original manga.

As a major fan of Hakka-ya's doujins I naturally had big expectations going into this series. Did this series meet my expectations? Um... weeeeellll... kind of. There were a lot of things about this series I didn't expect from Hakka-ya. First of all, this is a 4-koma. Hakka-ya has never written 4-koma in the past. Secondly, it's not really a romance series (although it does have some subtext) and all of Hakka-ya's doujins were romance doujins.

However, once I got over my surprise I still liked the series. It does have Hakka-ya's trademark heavy and dramatic aura around it, so if you're expecting this to be yet another cute 4-koma about cute girls doing cute things then read something else. That's not what this is. It's a sometimes funny, but more often dramatic slice of life series about the lives of a group of highschool girls. The premise is boring but it's elevated to being good because Hakka-ya is just plain talented. It's well written, the characters accumulate some nice depth as it goes along, and it has the unique and powerful atmosphere that can be expected from Hakka-ya.

However, while this was still good I think Hakka-ya has the potential to write something better than good. Hakka-ya has the talent to write something great, and I hope Hakka-ya picks a more ambitious plot for their next original work.
