Description
A special cocktail that can only be ordered once a month, is the code to be able to spend the night with the owner of the bar, Ashihara.

Introduced to this system by a colleague, Murakami had no idea that a simple one-night stand would lead to his becoming utterly obsessed with the cold, arrogant bartender.
But Ashihara treats him no differently from any of his other 'customers'...How long can Murakami withstand the torture of being one among many others?

First chap was okay.
Second chap was annoying. Is the uke doing it on purpose?? Letting the seme be jealous or what?? Eugh
Third chap: well that wasn't too deep. Jfc if he just told him what the hell was the problem, the stupid misunderstanding wouldn't have existed!
The oneshot was okay, not my cup of tea tho.

It's cute, the art is nice and the pacing of the story as well but Murakami and Ashihara can be really irritating sometimes. I don't see any character development, or depth in this manga which really put me off. Especially, because HIDAKA Shoko-sensei's later works are so well done, I was expecting something better. But then again, we learn as we progress.

I really like Hidaka Shoko's works, but this one just didn't meet my expectations. The story was kinda bland and I found Ashihara to be irritating. This lessened as the manga progressed but, still, Ashihara is the character I like the least out of all Hidaka's characters.

The uke sucks -_- All the misunderstandings that happened in the manga are his fault. He doesn't seem to comprehend what communication means, then he gets angry and doesn't clear things up with the seme. Sakaki is also annoying, I just don't like character like that, they are only there to create unnecessary conflict(He's more likable in the sequel, poor guy was just bitter XD)
The seme can be such an idiot sometimes -_-

I like the complex and complicated bartender, and I like the simpler, kinder guy he dates. They have a good dynamic, I think.

There's a mystery and a light depth to the characters that appeals to me.

My main problem was that the translation was really hard to understand sometimes. It was English, but the English didn't have a lot of meaning and it was really unnatural.

the author is great, but this is not her best work

I love Hidaka Shoko's art, but I cant relate my emotion to the story. I can't see why the seme is so interesting, that someone as popular as the uke taken a liking to him. Still I think this manga is not that bad. Just "not interesting". There are tons of manga out there worse than this one and got higher ratings.

I suggest you read Yuuutsu na Asa if you're interested in this kind of art. It's Hidaka Shoko's best work i dare say.

a lot of the times I look at the rating of these mangas and wonder whether i've not been reading the same one as everyone else. Why does this manga have such high votes? The characters are not likeable and all the misunderstandings the mangaka created were really uneccesary and it was plain frustrating.

Mixed-feelings...

Okay, I will have to divide this in parts.
The ratings are shockingly high here, if they're for the main story. When I first started to read it, I thought "that's just what I'm looking for." I didn't want emotional depth this time (though I'm usually a sucker for it), but then it kinda disappointed me. It was predictable =/

I liked some parts, especially some dialogues or character's thought lines. For instance, how Murakami thinks he's special without any reason for that. It's very believable and people can relate to it. I've never seen a manga portray that feeling so good as this one and that's definitely a positive point.

But the characters aren't great...the seme kinda pissed me off. I mean, he's so...normal. So simple and plain! He's not overly gentle - which is something I hate - and yet not pushy. He's like, nothing! The uke steals all the attention - and just because he's pretty, too, because he's just as plain. I can't see where he's cold, as the description says. He's just a bit of a player and likes too fool around.

It lacked things, too. Murakami seemed not to be gay - when he's shocked because he fell for Ashihara - but he's totally fine with it in a second. Also, I don't really like how a conflict of two years could be solved so easily and out of the blue. I wished for a more complex resolution...though Ashihara's did surprise me a bit on that, so I liked it. But ahhh, authors waste so many chances! It would've been so much more interesting if Murakami said he didn't have any obligation of going to Ashihara's shop, when Ashihara asked him about it! But nooo, he just HAS to be honest and make it boring.

Well, the first chapter isn't really good, but it starts to get a little better as follows. And as it gets better, Ashihara gets more interesting and Murakami gets more annoying. Argh, he even gets whiny after a while, he pisses me off.
And actually, it would be much more interesting if Murakami ended up with Sakaki after all, it'd be pretty creative and unexpected. But I like how they strangely turned out to be friends, it was cute.

--

Anyways, then I got to the extra story and...I LOVE IT. That should be rated high! It is so original and innovative!

The artwork in this chapter is so pretty, too! Their expressions tell exactly all of their emotions. As Shibuya said a few times, Mikami's looks can REALLY tell how he feels, and that's what's beautiful about it!

Mikami on his own is just so.freaking.adorable!! He's tsundere-ish, and always keeps everything to himself. He's cute, but strangely in a manly way for an uke who rarely speaks and is so timid. I guess that rebellious side of him is what makes him sexy.
And Shibuya is just hot. I mean, he is SUCH a player! And he's immature, which makes him very likable for some reason. I just wanted to take both home with me!

They're relationship is so complex, it almost made me cry only by looking at them! They're silent, they never say a thing, even though they're really hurt inside. It's not like they are in pain...is more like their relationship has to evolve from where it is. They love each other, even though none of them express it, which is why Shibuya plays with Mikami's feelings. Just to see if they're mutual...and it's so angsty!

I love everything about this story! The only thing is that I wish it was longer =/ The end left me with a bittersweet taste, as if it wasn't complete. I wish this was the main story!

Now I just have to read Tarinai Jikan! - even though it's a sort of prequel to this chapter.

Well, I will rate it according to both the stories, but if I had to rate separately, I'd give the side-story 10, and a medium rank to the main one.

PS: I have to say I smirked over @mica363's remark about Totally Captivated...it's my favorite manga!

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
THE UKE IS SOOOOOO ANNOYING!! GOSH I NEVER READ SUCH AN ANNOYING CHARACTER.

Okay, that's probably a lie and I may sound like i'm exaggerating but these types of characters really irk me!!!!!! I feel so sorry for the seme. He's constantly worrying. What's with the mangaka??? is it fun to write such characters? The seme looks too desperate, I hate it! When you're lover is insecure it's mostly your fault! If you cant make your partner feel loved then you shouldn't have the audacity to be the one to get mad first. I mean its basic common sence... the uke doesnt explain anything at first so OBVIOUSLY anyone in the seme's place would feel anxious. I seriously started to cry out of frustration somewhere in the middle. Has the seme no pride? however twisted or mean a person's personality may be.. too much is too much T.T And when the incident with Sasaki happened, in the end I just went "WHATEVER" the mangaka just threw a bunch of words intending to explain the uke's character and it feels like she expects us to "understand" him. Ugh. Waste of good art. The message "you have to fight like this in order to continue with the relationship" what kind of concept is that. Seriously... I kept reading till the end in hopes that SOMETHING good could happen.. like perhaps the seme finds someone ELSE and ditch that selfish uke. But I didn't like it to the very end. He's under my most hated personality list. -__- He treated his relationship with the seme as a game. What a jerk.

cocoaplaya you are so right. It just doesn't have that specific energy that keeps you totally captivated (hehe Totally Captivated)
I just don't like how distant the characters are even up until the end. As usual I like seeing cross characters but it doesn't really matter when very little excitement takes place.
