I love this novel it gives me a breath of fresh air why you ask well the reason it doesn't fucking draw stuff out to long get a damn holy sword sure no prob couple of chaps instead of other novels were its like 20 chapters and his morality unlike other novels he doesn't refuse to kill but he still doesn't like it and he isn't cold hearted and kill without remorse like i said i love this novel its different from others its how do i say light no that not it its like drinking a cold beer listening to your favorite music and spending time with the friends you know you like unlike other ones were drama is abundant and yes i admit that the rewards given to him are not exactly earned i mean he gets crap load of gifts from the dragons just for naming them but i like this novel and you should try it out

A Nice Change of Pace

The author's writing really can't be considered exceptional, just alright. He can be a bit too explicit with the telling "MC is nice" rather than showing. Furthermore, the first person can be a bit jarring, and occasionally the narration is broken with a sort of, "in the future, this would happen" as a sort of comic relief. That said, I somewhat enjoy this series. No, it's not as good as other works on wuxiaworld: the characters don't have as much depth, some stuff is too easily given to the MC, and it can get a bit boring. However, after reading a never-ending amount of underdog > introduce antagonist > magic loli (or other) suddenly gives power > revenge (or the reincarnation equivalent), I find the differences pleasant.

Firstly, the story as a whole is a bit more cozy than most, largely because the MC is lazy and that carries over to the reader. Mind you, it's not like a sort of sitting around a fireplace cozy, more like drinking a warm drink on a chilly morning. Mildly pleasant, and only that.

Secondly, The MC actually has morals consistent with rational people instead of the classic "POWER IS EVERYTHING, REVENGE" thought process. He has killed but found it distasteful and rarely kills beyond that. That said, him finding it distasteful is skimmed over, again due to the author's deficiencies in skill.

Thirdly, Thus far, the MC isn't pursuing a harem, and the romance is pleasant. MC's romance fits into that coziness where initially there's a bit of conflict, but everything falls into place in a comfortable way. One of MC's friend's romance is filled with conflict and can be an emotional rollercoaster, if a bit predictable.

Otherwise, the author's a bit heavy-handed with the foreshadowing; though I haven't gotten to the promised event, the author's mentioned it 4 times, even having characters outright say it. In addition, the battle scenes can be a bit tame.

All said, I'm abstaining from giving it a score. Objectively, it's not very good. I wouldn't recommend it to someone entering the world of webnovels. Admittedly, I actually dropped it at some point and only picked it up again recently while browsing through my list of novels, but I'd say it's a nice change of pace, just not astounding. Then, maybe my palette of webnovels is a bit limited if this is the first I've encountered where the MC isn't a bloodthirsty deity that wants to build a harem.

am i the only one who likes the fact that the MC is lazy?
i thought it was funny because it was more like he WANTS to be lazy but no one will let him. his primary teacher puts him through hell once he realizes how lazy zhan gong really is.
i suppose i'm also biased because i know a person that's a lot like him, choosing things purely because one thing seems less troublesome than the other.
and its so not BL, at least one girl show up once he starts the advanced school.
that being said it is campy, sometimes to an eye-rolling degree, but a fun read if you have the patience for it.
for all that i enjoy it as mindless entertainment though, this isn't close to my favorite Tang Jia San Shao novel. its hard to believe that the same person who wrote douluo dalu (1,2, and now 3) and shen yin wang zuo also wrote this. i'm more partial to tang san as a MC, but zhang gong is certainly different.

Fun and I dropped it...

This was a fun read at first but just got WAY WAY to campy. The MC has everything just handed to him and does not have to work for anything. He cultivates by sleeping, and accidently picked the most powerful magic, then accidently got the most powerful sidekick and got lots of perks that quite honestly he doe not deserve. I love this genre but like a few more challenges. If you are looking for a neat little story that does NOT challenge you or make you sit on the edge of your chair hanging on every word, only to groan when the chapter is over, as you cant wait till the next chapter is released, then this is the story for you.

Mediocre

Compared to other Chinese light novels out there, this one's extremely bland and...dumb. Pretty much agree with the other negative comments.

First person perspective is weird here, especially when sometimes the writing goes and describes actions/thoughts of people in third person at random times. Like suddenly a paragraph would appear describing characters doing things somewhere else or thinking things, or explaining events happening, and then it'd switch over back to first person. Just poorly implemented, should have stuck with third-person for everything.

Oh, and the MC is a childish idiot that doesn't learn from experience (91 chapters in) even though he's supposed to be smart and some sort of genius. His personality is a bit inconsistent as well.

If I wasn't totally bored out of my mind and Wuxiaworld (the site hosting the translated chapters) didn't release its chapters while I was waiting on other, better, novels' releases, I wouldn't have bothered reading Child of Light this far.

It wasn't bad to start off with, but as it progressed it was more and more silly since the author has this disgusting habit of spoiling the entire conclusion of the story/chapter right as it starts.

Like, why.

WHY?

There's no suspense or tension at all.

This story cliche and very average there is nothing that really stands out nothing really stands out about him side characters average the world cliche.

Out of Guang Zhi Zi光之子 Kuangshen狂神 Good Death[善良的死神] this one is the worst nothing really stands out nor is anything really terrible Mc tends to be lazy and a big eater but other than that he doesn't really stand out. Kuangshen mc went through something where he felt powerless and started his drive for power Guang Zhi Zhi and Good Death they wanted to make their teachers proud and then later for the 3 of them they wanted to protect their loved ones so they got stronger none of them have any dream they wish to pursue which is not bad but not good because it gives them not driving force to get stronger accept the cliche i want to protect my loved ones.

The world pretty generic nothing again stands out.

Side character in this story not great but they are pretty entertaining sometimes.

This novel's level of Romance is BL

Yeah at first I was suspicious but this novel is slowly turning into BL

The MC has no Interest in Girls and is surrounded by man lol
and then I encounter this line at chapter 31
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Long Meng[MC male friend] pressingly said with a loud voice, “That won’t do. It’s difficult to see each other. How could I let you leave so quickly? I want to go with you. You are the person I had admired the most in my life. From now on, I won’t leave you.” [ Please, no. I’m not some unmarried young woman. Is my sex appeal really that great?-This last part are from MC]

lol I was like MC what are you.. your a man right why are you thinking as a girl..
Its a good novel if you ignore the MC romance towards male characters lol

And somehow the repetitive plot is also annoying
MC got defeated easily then level up..
There is NO fix enemy yet and somehow the future achievements makes it less enjoyable

Well its a good read after all
Its free for wasting time

Just wanted to add that despite the story being narrated in the first person perspective, the narrator has knowledge of things that have not yet happened --- its mostly self-praise at how he didn't know how awesome he would be in a few years.

So its kinda weird.

First person narration

I admit, I didn't even finish the first chapter, so I don't have an opinion about how good/bad this novel is.

However, I didn't finish it because I don't like novels/stories written in first-person type of narration.

This review will only be useful to those who like me, don't like this type of narration, to not get their hope up too early
