I feel this manga was not necessary, but...

Asumiko Nakamura's art makes it really hard to dislike any of her works. Even if you don't like the plot much, the visuals will make up for it. This manga was a nice read, but I felt it didn't add much to J no Subete. Someone will surely enjoy the romance between the two main characters, but I personally

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
preferred a straight Morgan over a bisexual Morgan. Because you sometimes need a straight character who's not involved in any romance, and Morgan was very good for that part. Perhaps some people can enjoy a yaoi full of gay/bisexual characters and love triangles, but most of the time I find it confusing and not realistic. So I didn't like the relationship between Morgan and Paul. It's not necessarily bad, but in my opinion bromance would have been better. Gerry and his partner didn't impress me much either. Probably Donna was the only character I really liked from this manga.

Is this needed in order to understand J no Subete? No, you can skip it. If you want to read this, though, do it after reading J no Subete.

Not bad at all

A nice accompaniment to J no subete which looks at Paul and Morgan's side of the story before meeting J. Clouded with pent up adolescent frustration and conflicts, the story is essentially about the bittersweet relationship between certain youths still undergoing their juvenile state of mind. There's regret and doubt and countless 'what ifs' that are very well portrayed. I do feel bad though about
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
how the two main characters ended up separated after all and that they couldn't work out their differences in the end. But that's where J comes in I suppose, for he fills the role that helps heel the breach and forms a new relationship for the other two.

On a side note, is it just me or are Paul and Morgan very similar personality-wise to Saijou and Kusakabe from Doukyuusei? The facial features (eg the droopy eye-lids) are especially alike lol

High quality story who hits on you with a great impact. Just awesome. A rare jewel. It has everything what I like, solid plot, the feeling it could've been a real story, likeable characters or characters about whom you can't stay indifferent, they think, they feel, they fight, they make mistakes, they're falling and standing up, they're facing troubles and the harsh reality. Just like in the real life. I love this feeling.
The troubles they got are kinda real, tough, not just some stupid dilemma "If he'll like my birthday gift?" or shit like that. This is a different level. And the art - so good. Their eyes left an impression on me. A great read with an excellent artwork. I just love those stories. Couldn't stop to read until the very end, all the books. You should read them all.
I'm so glad I picked this yaoi. Definitely memorable.

As always Nakamura Asumiko's art has that intensity that draws you to their characters, but to me the story failed to do so. I don't know if it was because of it being rushed and/or lack of space, but the character development just felt bleak. It left me wondering if there really was a story to begin with, or maybe, it was all about a story that would never happen.
I could have just enjoyed the art and not bother with it.

A happy ending? Please!

This is my FIRST Nakamura Asumiko manga and I wasn't sore about it not having a 'happy ending' in the end. I think, for a fact, that Nakamura-sensei has already provided us a better ending! It's better than having them be together. They end up as friends biggrin. (I'd like to say that they've become good friends but J no subete isn't finish yet so I can't end up claiming a title as great as that. After all, they DID become 'enemies' in one point of their lives)

I find this manga really interesting. Mature, in a sense too. Or rather, it takes a deep mind to actually get why it has to be like this. I also like the way Nakamura-sensei devels into the thoughts of these youngsters. It breaks them away from the stereotype bad kids. Maybe I'm just speaking for Andrew since he IS the MC of this story. Oh well biggrin!

I'm not particularly sad about the ending because I know how 'that' relationship ends. (Read the rest of the stories! I promise it gets better! Even though the timeline still isn't complete!)

It's not like this is a bad manga and I haven't read J no Subete yet but Im at Andrew's side.

There are so many unspoken feelings, it left so much regret. They didnt even have the chance to understand each other and personally I dont like Paul at all. It's too bad for them, the story is tragedy to me, I didnt prepare to see them like that.

only read chapter one but i love it already!! i hope a group will continue scanalating this
Edit: just read(look though) the jap vol and I am not happy with the ending sad
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
i was hoping Morgan and Paul would end up together but instead Paul ends up with J the curly blonde haired boy from another manga j no subete which I read a few ch of. If only Morgan had more courage to confess =\ and so far from the beginning chapters of j no subete, I don't like how j easily gets Paul while playing around... Maybe my mind will change if I keep reading hopefully

I've wanted to read this one for years. My thanks to Terrible Trio and their great scanlations.

As usual, Nakamura weaves a dark, complex atmosphere and characters to match. This is boys' school shounen-ai to rival the classics of the seventies. The genre Nakamura is working in has now become a cliche, but she makes it seem just as revolutionary as it was thirty years ago.

The first time I saw this, I immediately wanted to read it. Just from the title, you can tell it is obviously intruiging, and I guarantee you, it is! For some reason, I really like the art, it's very refreshing. Especially both Paul and Andrew's expression.

It's very heart-warming.That's all I can say.
