Long time fan

Tripeace is one of my favorite mangas, i read it back in 2012 and every few years i go back and re-read the series (I'm on my 6th re-read) so i pretty confident to say that Tripeace doesn't hold up that well like most stuff from the early 10s and late 00s.

Art is just amazing, don't even try to argue. For something made in 2008 the art is amazing.
Story has a very great premise but it bite off more than it could chew so most of the talk about war is very simplified for what it was trying to say which came off often as childish and naive.
Characterizations for nana and shiro is pretty decent, nothing revolutionary but it serves the purpose. Nana has amnesia so he's a blank canvas with the goal to stop all wars and for essentially a young boy who just learned about what war is, he did his best (the whole idealistic tendency and childish tone of the story towards war fits nicely but war isn't really something you can use the word childish with). Shiro's development is nice and the answer she came up with for her third law is quite surprising (or if you pay attention enough and is smart maybe not). The antagonists are often contradictory in their words and actions which reflects the muddy line of good and evil (i hope that was intentional). And the rests are not explored enough to say anything about.
Pacing has issues, let's just say that. Especially the last arc.
First time reading the ending i was really disappointed but after re-reading and look at the story as a whole, it is still disappointing but i appreciate it a lot more. Nana growth is comparable to a kid growing up (tripeace is a shounen), he has an idealistic view of the world and when it was broken, he succumb to negativity and becomes disillusioned with the world and himself. But when he and shiro fought, she pulled him back from the despair by reminding him of his dream. At this point, both sides are fighting each other like kids at a playground because they deep down are still idealistic children no matter how strong they are.
The ending to me is about staying true to yourself. Nana dream is to eradicate all wars and even though it's an impossible goal, he still strive to do it because it's what he set out to accomplish to succeed or die trying and i think that is beautiful. Very heavy-handed in terms of execution and cliche in meaning but it fits the story and stay true to itself till the very end.

I'm still very sad we didn't get to see the fights though... And the set-up which dragged on pretty long without going anywhere... And the humor which DID NOT aged well like soul eater...

Tldr:
Pros: Cool art, easily binge-able, compelling story

Cons: Humor, rushed last arc, all over the place set-ups which lead to nowhere resulting in a sense of pointlessness.

Overall: 7-8/10 (to me it will always be 10/10)
Read it if you want to kill time or to come up with ideas for your own comic because it is filled with cool designs and concepts.

A simplistic view on war

This manga I just read on a whim, and I think it isn't that good, to put it more harshly it is one of the worst manga I seen, it's view on war is extremely childish, the character shiro is one of the most annoying characters I seen in a while she is so abusive and obnoxious, she is always so condescending towards Nana even though the main character change and show some signs in improvement she still acts very rude towards him.
Also the ending was really bad though it was most likely axed and I'm not surpirsed in the series cancellation.

Overall a manga that's not worth reading

Rushed and unsatisfying

Just when I thought it was finally getting some consistence and progression, it ends abruptly on a really silly note. Any enjoyment in this series is to be found in its later parts, but since it cuts off so suddenly, it's a waste of time reading it.

Great Manga, Disappointing Ending

It was really awesome, I enjoyed it a lot, then a dumb (and childish maybe?) ending arrived.
Really disappointing. I don't know why, maybe they ran out of money? Time? Something else wrong happened? I really can't understand why they decided to cut in that mode this manga.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The change of behavior of the Main Character (I mean when he regained his memory and become evil) could be used as an excuse to create alot more chapters, maybe showing how he gradually realize the "Innocent Nana" was better, instead the manga was rapidly cut with a stupid ending.
Also, if Ares was extremely dangerous, and has the same strength of Tripeace, why the last chapters show a stupid scuffle where they shout all the time "YOURE DAMN WRONG, WAR CAN BE STOPPED", "NO YOU ARE WRONG", "NO YOU!". It has nosense, it's like a scuffle between kids!

Disappointing Ending...

This was one of my favorites... but seriously, the ending? It really felt weak. The start was good, but it lost steam somewhere near the end.

I could have given it a 10, but because of that crap of an ending...there you go.

well, interesting plot and actually it can be developed more into better story but not really that bad that makes me not to read it till the end, it's still fun to read it... (I like not weakling main chara)
fine arts and some battle scenes but some scenes can't really blend and be good enough, especially the last battle
seriously, when I read the last chapter I just thought that was this series got cancelled or what since the last arc and battle seems a bit ridiculous to end it right there.... too much rush and such
but oh well, fun enough to read, farewell Nana, farewell Shiro, farewell TriPeace

I was not bad at first but then kinda got lost in the plot. Story felt rush in certain areas. In the end, the conclusion of the manga was kinda weak. Could have had a better ending even though the manga is pretty mush try to say that it is not possible to end war ( which I also believe too that it is impossible). At least that make sense.

Anyway manga was good until the final arc, I had to force myself to read the rest. Don't get me wrong the manga was funny to read. The final arc is almost 2 volume long anyway.

Story 6/10
Art 9/10
Satisfaction 7/10
Ending 5/10

But seriously was that the ENDING!!!! P(>_<)

people found fault with it..i found it perfectly fine in the beginning when he was weak and had to resort to subterfuge and guile...but later on when he gets stronger it was just silly.

as people said after the first arc it seems like it was rushed

-And yes, I read around 30 chapters. Somehow I was expecting it to actually develop and become good. So I skimmed the rest.

Despite this whole manga REVOLVING around on the concept of war, this manga generalizes the concept and oversimplifies all the aspects. The characters' ideals strike me as stunningly superficial and ignorant: wow, 'love, peace and crossdressing' sure are great mottos to stand by.
No hard-- NEW ideas are put forth: Even though they're in a war, there's no trauma, no soldiers drowning in guilt etc. No one on their side of the war seems to KILL and feel bad... Of course, you can 'win' a war without killing--but this is no cold war. This is peppered with fight scenes between good and bad.

There are no thoughtful ideas on war; everything basically fits in the typical shounen formala--
'I'll save the guy who has been trying to KILL ME from bleedin to death or sumthin, just 'coz I'm a hero like that! I know he definitely won't backstab me, because this ain't no real war, right? I'll always see hope in the eyes of a deranged lunatic trying to kill me (who has slaughtered ppl before, mind you) and be a hero and SAVE THEM.'
Not just that, the manga tries to be serious one moment, and then comedic the next. It's like it's bipolar. After a 'touching, sad' scene during a battle there suddenly is comic relief and humor.
It's not subtle/new humor either, it's the 'obvious, overdone, humor' . I suuuure love Nana's crossdressing antics. Even though I've got the gist and it's been repeated several times. It's amazing, simply amazing! The mindless fanservice is definitely entertaining...
Well, if I want fanservice, i'd read an ecchi manga!!

And the characters. Hardly realistic at all. For people with such 'deep' backgrounds-- witnessed the trauma of war etc (i.e, everyone has similar back stories of blablabla ohnoesthiswarishorriblycrueltomewah), I would've expected them to be more cynical, and join organizations that actually HELP distribute resources to those stricken with war, expose the truth about it etc, instead of joining some pseudo peace organization which 'will stop all wars'. Who believes in that? It sounds like a shady cults which chants fervently to a strange relic of some sort, and holds baby-sacrificing rituals to 'cleanse the world'.

Also, the characters are flat. Shiro is the typical tsundere. Nana is your typical idealistic, cheerful idiot hero with a supposed twist (a dark past). They're unrelatable. I have no emotional connection to them. I feel fairly neutral when they're fighting in a life-or-death situation or crying or laughing or striking some cool pose etc. They're boring. I was hoping one of them would just die as a random plot twist.

So if you like watching people shout their war-eliminating mottos with belligerence whilst fighting boring villains, and drooling at a hot cross-dressing boy, you'd enjoy this.

...I enjoy shounen. I like the heroes with messiah complex. But even I like my characters with back bone and backstory, my fight scenes with some sort of complexity and some sort of conceivable; consistent plot. Unfortunately, Tripeace lacks all that.

With the MC going about about with an extremely childish goal of eradicating all war (oxymoron anyone?), he so happens to run into an organization that fits his criteria exactly parading about as "Love, Peace, and Violence" so he decides to make his own motto as "Love, Peace, and

Crossdressing
"....

So the crossdressing in this one is way too forced. The first time it was used, it felt random, funny and appropriate. After that though with its reoccurrence, I couldn't even keep going after six chapters if all that's waiting for me is more forced crossdressing scenarios. I'd not particularly mind crossdressing, since when it's done right like in Zippy Ziggy, it can make for some hilarious situations. In this manga though, the Gender Bender and Shounen tags were way too prominent for my tastes.
