I am sorry but this is not it

i have read gender bender stuffs but this is just fetishizing conversion in the name of comedy. The relationships are nice and cute but the whole main character turning bisexual or straight is straight up b*llshit. Anyone loving this manga for yu and kei relationship simply does not understand basic human interaction. You can clearly see it is a gay turned straight manga. Stop saying they do not make kei straight or bisexual just because it is an open ending

Really not homophobic

I didn't want to write a review first but I really want to reiterate that this manga is NOT homophobic. The mother is problematic, sure, but she doesn't show up that much. Aside from her there's no one saying that a girl liking girls is disgusting or weird (granted, they don't encourage it either). Honestly, the description comes of too strong and highlights the wrong points. The story isn't about "curing" her sexuality anyway, it was really focused on difficulties in parent-children relationships and expressing your emotions. The last few chapters did not really hint at a blossoming romance for me, but rather a friendship with a deep bond, but it's an open end so think what you want.
Now if you put all these misconceptions away: It was an enjoyable story. Could have been longer and the characters more fleshed out, but it suffices. The storytelling was a bit messy.

Homophobic

The entire premise is to try to change MC's mind on her sexuality. She likes girls and wants to make love with girls. But mom wants biological children so she forces her to go to an all boys school disguised as a female and I'm like wtf.

I'm not some SJW nor activist. I'm all for gender swap genre, that's how I got here, but this story is too ridiculous.

So many people are rating this 10/10 I can't. She doesn't need to correct herself. She's fine the way she is.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I don't get the other criticizers, but the manga is cute.

Well, at first, Iwasn't entertained by the characters. Sure, the premise is good and I've always been a fan of gender bender when the girl has to pretend being a guy. I was just bothered by how Kei devotingly prefers girls(being a judgemental straight at that time) so I wasn't really amused reading it along the way and I remembered hating this manga those couple of years ago because it was popular but I couldn't really relate to it. Now a little mature at reading, I picked this manga once again and reread it. Houou is really nice and funny! Kei is a lesbian and now I'm comfortable with it. And Yui hahahaa love his character here, Kousuke as well. The other friends could have just pissed off somewhere else and leave the story but it's fine if they stayed in the story as well. The art is really great!!!!! I love Yui and Kei's height difference, very fresh! 😂 and the pacing is also nice. It didn't felt rushed to me especially near the ending. Kei really decides to continue studying Houou without Yui's threats and other's pressure towards her. And she looks like she's slowly taking things starting from the ending. Everything felt smooth and nice and happy. Wished Yui and Kei really gets together in the end hehehe because it really seems like they will 😊 Kei can just take things slow at a time since now they can be together for a whole 3 years 🙂)

Ouran High School Host Club but with controversial personalities

I'm so sad that so many people said it's homophobic. But well when I first read this, i thought, "the mom doesn't want her child to fall in love with girls and put her in all boys school.. hmm what an extreme way to be homophobic." Then after that people would call this homophobic. I'm just.. the protagonist. Is. A lesbian. She love girls and maybe she became bi only for that short guy. One homophobe character and then you call the whole manga homophobe. What about the protag barfing to guys, you don't call it heterophobe? 😭 Daamn it, gender equality? Besides that, I laughed for the sake of comedy. But for a shoujo, the male lead is being pretty much a sadist. I take this as Ouran High School Host Club spiced with controversial personalities. It's refreshing for this kind of harem atmosphere. And I love this manga since a long time ago and still loving it.

Bad Parenting

I really hate the mother of the heroine... She is selfish and manipulative...
She deceived her own daughter and put her in an all boys school in the hopes of converting her.
And whats more this said school is full of elite students.
Her self interest in making her daughter find a man to marry for money, utterly disgust me...

I've had enough, I couldn't bring myself to finish this manga...
I know this is only a fiction but it's really hurtful to read....

She didn't turn 'straight'

I loved the ending. She didn't get 'cured' or anything. In a lot of BL, a straight guy falls in love with a another guy, so why is it impossible to do the same? First of all, the ending is open, and you can interpret it anyway you want. For me, I see it as a sign of friendship, but it's not homophobic or wrong to interpret it romantically. She's still a person who is still learning about herself, and discovering herself. Also, this whole "cure her homosexuality" is regarded as if it were something bad, and her mother is put in a bad light because of that. Her father is supportive, and her friends as well. She stays true to herself, which made me feel so positive and glad.
I liked this manga a lot, and this whole "self discovery" theme, and staying true to one'sself. I would have liked it if there was more development for other characters, and if it were slower paced.

Not actually homophobic! A moving tale of a strong young woman.

The main character, Kei, is not "cured" of her homosexuality like other reviewers are claiming -- that is never even portrayed as a desirable or healthy thing. Kei is definitely still a lesbian at the end.

Kei is a strong heroine, who has to deal with a mother who does not understand her, and so is sent to an all-boys school with the goal of getting her to like boys. The audience empathizes with her situation as she is forced to pretend to be a boy, deal with boys who scare her to the point of puking (but with comedy), and navigate the tricky situation of boys falling for her once they find out she is female.

Yet throughout the manga Kei stays true to herself, maintaining that she really likes girls. Near the very end she is about to act on these inclinations to transfer out to a school which does have girls. But it's very clear that she decides to stay for the friendships she has built. In the last chapter, when she's deciding whether to stay, she explicitly rejects staying for the reason of furthering a romantic relationship ("Because he said he likes me? No."). And when her would-be boyfriend asks for a reply to his feelings, she can only awkwardly turn him down. At an earlier time he even acknowledges that a relationship with Kei could probably never work out because she "likes girls." She's a lesbian, people!

The mangaka does a good job with the ending, making the school become co-ed -- no doubt to Kei's delight -- and thus allowing the possibility for healthy same-sex relationships for Kei in the future.

What threw so many of the reviewers off was the very last scene where Kei lightly takes the hand of the would-be boyfriend. It's a sweet ending, and the small action was well within Kei's character given the situation.

But to interpret these last 3 pages as somehow reversing all the development and repeated confirmation that Kei likes girls throughout the entire manga is ludicrous! You have to be either stupid or looking for a reason to call this manga homophobic, or both, to believe in this magic, 180 degree character change. Give the mangaka a little credit, yeesh!

This manga is really the opposite of homophobic, since the reader gets to struggle alongside the lesbian MC and understand some of the challenges of growing up not-straight, including what an uncooperative parent can do to make your life difficult.

Houou Gakuen Misoragumi is fresh and funny, less focused on romance than most shoujo manga, and more mature. Definitely recommended.

I never thought I would like a manga with this story line but its adorable! I'm a bit confused through out half of the manga, but once the background story is told im totally sucked in! I love the characters and all of their personalities; especially Yui's and Kousuke. The two are both completely different from each other and interested in the same person its so cute! Although, I kind of wish the ending was different, maybe actually explaining if Kei and Yui are going to be together? Or something like that...but, at the same time I think its one of those silent understandings to where you know they have a connection, and that connection will always be there. Itd still be nice for it to be visual though. Overall great manga in my opinion!(:

Honestly, I don't see it as wrong that the parents are trying to cure Kei. Perfectly fine with me. Honestly everyone has different viewpoints and that's fine, it's just a manga anyway >.>

Anywho, I thought this was hilarious. xD I love that Kei was taller than Yui because it just made it seem more non-stereotypical and I don't know I just found it funny lol. Maybe because it reminded me just a taaaad bit of Love Com >o< This really is a great manga, it wasn't super cutesy either, it had it's serious moments. Definitely would recommended!! ^^
