I was a bit worried

Spoilers here and there :

I believe it was because of the comments regarding the ending that I kept worrying about liking this or not. But when I realized it was a love triangle, I wanted to know the name of the character the FL ended up with before reading it.
With that in mind, I don't know if this is the main reason but I utterly disliked Shishio-sensei. He was a very unpleasant presence, not a bad guy, just very annoying.
But Mamura was for me a guy you could just not hate, he was honest and dishonest all at the same time (if that's possible).

I was mainly worried about the possibility of Suzume falling in love with Mamura in a weird and unnatural way, but I believe it wasn't the case. Sensei was an experience to Suzume that overwhelmed everything else that was happening with everything around her, I could still pick up small but important moments where Mamura marked the heart of our FL, so it felt right that this kid ended up with Suzume.
Putting the important fact of who Suzume ended up with, I think this manga was really well done. There are many emotions and characters involved and even though is very cliche, as I read somewhere else the author manages to still make it seem fresh...
I would like to try some other jobs by the same mangaka. This was a very nice read.

Good series. Enjoyable with some weakpoints here and there but gets the message across.

This is the story of a country bumpkin moving to the city, or in this case tokyo. She moves in with her uncle because of course this is a manga, her parents are unavailable (in this case in Germany). In tokyo she gains some new friends, falls in love, feels the pain of loss all that shit every japenese person that hasn't been isekaid yet goes through i believe. She's also stuck in between her quiet classmate who is considered mega hot, and her teacher who is slightly hotter cuz he has more of a pointier chin you see. So she needs to juggle these relationships as well as her new life and living in the city and all that stuff.

I quite enjoyed this series. It had a lot of style and pizazz you know. The characters were charming, the romance was enjoyable. The comedy was funny. I really like the ones where the female lead would be like damn im so shocked my artstyle changed. The meta-humor has always been my weakness.

The romance and the love triangle in this series was also quite enjoyable. It sort of falls a bit in quality near the middle part but i think it picks up again.

I also liked the bitchy character turned nice cuz the female lead is nice trope that occurred thing. It sorta reminds me of Kono oto tomare you know. Where personality can change to being kind without it being ridiculous or over the top. While at the same time being obvious but not overtly in your face. I really enjoyed how character development and character growth was handled in this series.

The friendship dynamic was also interesting. I liked how everyone else also had these romance going but didn't take a pointless amount of screen time either. I personally would've have liked more screen time though... just a little bit more but regardless overall its done well.

I don't find the art incredibly impressive either. I've seen people mention that the art is one of the best they've seen and I just can't seem to agree. It does look fantastic. But Its a far cry from what the best of the best should be.

TO SUMMARIZE. I think the series does a good job in introducing a new environment. Character development and Character growth was done pretty well as well. I think the series could use some work in the actual romance drama aspect. The whole love triangle was good but should've have been more dramatic. And though I enjoyed the ending reading other people's reviews it seems i might be in the minority here. So be warned.

In regards to love triangle drama. I think it would've have been better if it was more like Drowning Love but to be fair its pretty unfair to compare a series to something as good as Drowning Love, in fact i don't think i've read a manga that has a good love traingle since drowning love....

Also a bit of a funny thing. The series has bonus chapter which is a crossover between Daytime shooting star and Heroine Shikkaku which contains spoilers for Heroine Shikkaku. But the point is this shit was hillarious. They talk about how much 2chan was angry about the male lead because he was a teacher as such its illegal. In fact the entire family of the author didn't like that character and the editor didn't like it either lmfao. So yeah things like that was pretty fuckin' hilarious.

I'd read this manga sometime ago but this is one of those mangas that I couldn't really get over with because I seriously like it so much that I read it again from the beginning few times and watched its live action twice tee-hee.
And I decided that I want to share my comment just because... well, hopefully the author-san would read this and get happy 🙂
(Also because I realized that it's hard to share my excitement about a good manga with someone because as a 29 year old mom and OL, I hardly find anyone around me who likes shoujo manga as well)

Anyway, this manga left a deep impression to me not only because I liked male sensei-female student story plot, but also because I actually rooted for Mamura instead and I thought she would ended with sensei eventually but SHE DID NOT! Hahahah hooray! 😛
Usually, no matter how genuinely the second male lead loves the female lead, or what a big jerk was the first male lead towards female lead... Still she would ended up with the first male lead.
(I was still wounded from reading heroine shikkaku btw)
(And disclaimer: Not saying that shishio is a huge jerk but I do dislike how he confused Yosano with his second confession)

I think, even if she ended up with Shishio, I would probably not so broken hearted because I really have that sensei fetish lol but Mamura seriously captured my heart <3
I love him so much I want him to be happy <3

If Yosano ended up with Sensei, I would beg Yamamori-sensei to make a seriously good story about Mamura having his happiness. Thank goodness Yosano realized what's true love (Mamura!) because in the end, love is sacrificing our own happiness for our beloved one's.
Just like the saying "If you love something, let it go. If it returns, it's yours; if it doesn't, it wasn't. If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were."

Thank you Yamamori-sensei!
I enjoyed this manga a lot! <3

There's a very short side story about a gay guy in highschool and the narrator noticing him and exchanging a very brief interaction with him. The message isn't deep or profound in any way but it was beautifully done. I would have loved to read more. It was really well written with just the right amount of openness to the ending.

I rated the main story a 6-6.5/10 because it was entertaining despite its many, many, MANY flaws but I would give that side story a full 10/10 for a shoujo piece.

I like it. Nice artworks and most importantly, breath of fresh air to read a story that doesn't follow shoujo templates these days. Their characters also lovable. I think this is my first time that I care about the romance of the side character (MC's bestfriend).

I was initially a sensei x chunchun shipper but around the half-way point I started shipping Yosano with Mamura instead.

I love Sensei as a character. He's suave, mischievous, young-at-heart teacher with hint of mysterious adult charm that beguiles our MC as well as us readers. What's there not to love about him? He is like an adorable cat. However, given his recurring actions and words to our MC throughout the middle half of the series and then on, I really began abhorring the idea that he may end with Yosano as a lover. The man flip-flops way too much. Yeah, I know he was in a difficult position given that he's her teacher and must be a responsible adult of society etc but couldn't have that have been handled in a better way? Instead of leading the MC on to pointless conjectures of the whole 'he loves me, he loves me not' scenario several times he should have either told her to wait til she graduates (if he decides to pursue the relationship) or make a clean cut of it forever. But here we have this grown man of 24-26 competing with a 16-18 year old kid for the girl they both fancy in the most arbitrary ways. Like what? (*cough* culture festival race *cough*)

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
We know he's suppose to be charmingly immature but it really started pushing it near the end, especially when he started making moves on her despite the fact that she was currently in a relationship with Mamura and had decided for the SECOND time to move on after heartbreak from rejection with him (also not to mention confusing and hurting our MC several times with his ambiguous responses). That is NOT okay. Especially given that she's beginning to find happiness in her newfound love with this bestie once more. However, I do wish there was more buildup between Mamura and Yosano as much as she had with Sensei.. the plot felt rushed to quickly reach a conclusion. Despite that, at that point I wouldn't have minded if she had ended up even with Inukai or any other guy instead though. If she were my girlfriend my advice to her would be to stay far, far away from this teacher of hers. She is 16 years old and this is a guy who is 8 years her senior doesn't seem to be capable in making a sound and concise decision. irl, her relationship with Sensei would have been passionate but short-lived. If not short-lived, a very thorny and painful path. The idea of her ending up with Sensei was more romantic but choosing Mamura was the most realistically pragmatic decision she could make. He loves her selflessly, her Sensei does not. Mamura thinks of all the ways she can be loved, fulfilled and happy (even at his own expense) but her Sensei does not. Her teacher's later actions were so indecisive and destructive to our heroine's growth and love that it makes one wonder whether he's undeveloped in maturity or underdeveloped as a character. Seriously, it makes it seem that this highschooler boy is more courageous in loving our lead than this man. It doesn't make the love both the teacher and Yosano had any less significant but it's ultimately one-dimensional compared to what she has with Mamura. Quoting her, through Mamura she learns that to love is to give love and happiness to the other and not just focused on one's own emotional fulfillment through the rip-tides of passion. She learns by what he has shown her that throughout the times he's been with her. Now that is the kind of relationship that lasts a lifetime.

My two cents.

Better than expected

This one was a roller coaster. I was attracted to this manga at first due to the lovely art and low-key drama that tends to be resolved in just a few chapters, which was a bit rare for a shoujo back in 2011. The characters were portrayed well and the main heroine was atypical for this kind of work, which helped in making you believe that the author was trying to subvert the more classical shoujo tropes. Unfortunately after while it became clear that she was still taking us for the same old high school romance ride as other titles in this genre, which made me lose interest and drop it.

Skip to three years later when, out of boredom, I go back to this now complete title and decide to finish what I started a long time ago. Sure, I can't say that there weren't cringe-worthy and cliche shoujo moments, but the general direction and ending managed to positively surprise me and left me an overall pleasant impression, justifying thus a relatively high rating on this site. In a way, you can see the author's own artistic growth along with the character's growth and this seems to translate in a much more mature and realistic ending than I was hoping to find years ago.

Although we mainly follow the coming of age of Suzume, all of the side characters are also treated with love and respect so the story is blissfully devoid of annoying 2D "sidekicks". Even the perspective of the more adult characters is shown, creating a stark contrast with the youthful problems of the main character. While it is still fluff material (hey, this IS shoujo) it has been refreshing to see a mature perspective on the awkwardness of a relationship with a substantially unhealthy age and dependency gap. These are the main reasons why I would suggest this shoujo to anyone, for while it keeps the main romantic characteristics of the genre it is also rooted in reality offering the reader a rare treat of a plainly happy and emotively cathartic end.

This is going to be a really long review and you don't have to read it xD I'm just expressing my personal opinion on this manga. I'll just be reviewing characters and plot.

Characters:- What can I say? I loved each and every character the mangaka showed to me. First off, Yosano. Yosano may seem boring and typical for a shoujo manga but in reality, she is very realistic. She's optimistic and strong-minded. Over time, we see her soft and weak side - the side of her which many denounce as 'stereotypical good-for-nothing shoujo girl'. I swear that that term gets misused so many times. It's as if as soon as a girl shows her feelings, she is automatically a typical shoujo girl. There is a difference between being plain, annoying and a coward and being a realistic, relatable and showing emotion. So yes, Yosano is awesome: she stumbles sometimes but she makes good decisions in the end. As for our two love interests (yes I'm clumping them together sorry) they are in very much contrast with each other, which is a good thing. Shishio is a childish, fun teacher who, though it doesn't seem like it, cares a lot about Yosano and her well being and it's hard to say this as a Shizume shipper, but he really needs to get his priorities straight.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
LIKE SERIOUSLY HE REJECTS HER AND THEN TRIES TO HUG AND KISS HER. JUST STOP PLAYING WITH MY SHIZUME FEELS
Mamura is a pure, innocent smol bean enough said. I freaking love him and he obviously cares about Yosano a lot, despite having his habit of being shy around women (it's so cute *^*). The side characters are also interesting: well by that I really just mean Yuyuka and Togyuu because nobody else was of much significance.

Plot:-
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Here we go. For the most part, I'm just talking about the ending and referring to the whole plot (mainly because people are so darn salty about the ending). And may I point out again that I am a Shizume shipper. Also a Mazume shipper but I ship Shishio x Yosano more. I thought the ending was perfect. It was so satisfying and such a good wrap up. What people who don't like the ending have to understand is that the mangaka wasn't trying to make a perfect ending. I don't want to seem like I know her and what her purpose was but it seems strongly to be that she created an ending which supported the plot of the story. Yosano fell in love with her teacher but got rejected. He started to like her too but couldn't tell her. All of this tension was built up until the 47th chapter - the turning point. Before this, I thought they were going to be canon but it was obvious on that chapter that their love was never going to work out. It was heart-wrenching to read. You get flashbacks of all the good times they had and all of it came crashing down. After this, Yosano tries to get over him and realises slowly that Mamura had always been there. I thought the transition was a little too abrupt, it almost made it seem like she went from one guy to the next. The ending finishes with Shishio finally confessing and then Yosano rejecting him. This chapter was astounding. It shows the true development of Yosano over the manga and how strong she had become. Also with Shishio too, he maturely accepts the fact that he lost Yosano as she races back to Okinawa. There, she is truly happy. She chose the path that didn't cause her pain and agony. Mamura and Yosano were the perfect couple. It was the message of the whole manga. So why do I ship Shizume so much? I have a lot of reasons but I won't list them here in the manga review ahaha

Flaws:-
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The love between Yosano and Mamura was so sudden. Out of nowhere, Yosano tells us that she's fallen in love with Mamura. For Shishio, it was built up over time but again, Yosano seems to fall in love with Shishio much too quickly - you could argue that it was just first signs of love and her understanding of why she loved him grew over time. The pacing of the manga was slightly askew and it makes me wonder is Shishio literally having mood swings or something because he goes from showing Yosano all the love in the world to the silent treatment.

OVERALL:- FEELS. FEELS. FEELS. TEARS AND CRYING. HAPPINESS. ONE OF MY FAVES I READ ALL 89 CHAPTERS IN A DAY. TEAM SHISHIOOO

This was a wonderful manga. People are mad over the ending, but if you really think about it...

Then it's pretty clear from the beginning that she was going end up with Mamura over Shishio. Just because Shishio was the first love interest, doesn't mean he was the main love interest.
