Let me start by saying that I really enjoyed this series, and have binged it all the way through a few times now. First of all, it's just such a cool world! The different gods having representations on earth to work through, gaining or losing power based on the number of followers; the concept of having this Twelve Holy Knights brotherhood, where they each have to have these distinct personalities facing the public but are different underneath; even just the idea of those knights passing on their (weird) duties to the next generation and then going out in the world to retire, is all just so interesting and fun.

It's not a deep read, and while there's a few big twists that involve things that seem unimportant later on coming back around which were really exciting and I didn't see coming, most of the time you can't take anything too seriously. (It actually feels very Fast and Furious in a lot of ways, where someone can do an absolutely terrible thing and be an enemy, but then somehow be friendly with everyone by the next novel.)

The last novel is definitely my least favorite, though - I'm not sure what happened, because clearly the author wanted to continue writing in the universe based on immediately going into the sequel series and the spin-offs, but it really felt like she didn't know where she was going in the end. There's a lot of things that get brought up only to ultimately go nowhere, there are some high-stakes and consequences that just end up dismissed, and the final resolution for the problem they were facing...doesn't really seem like it would work long-term.

Also, between this and 1/2 Prince, I really don't think the author should be allowed to write romance, because (in my opinion) it's always rushed and doesn't make sense. It's surprising and disappointing, because she can write really great relationships - the bond between the Twelve Holy Knights is half of the reason I enjoy this story. Frankly, you can definitely argue that the relationship between Grisia and Lesus is queerbait-y, since they clearly care about each other so much and grow even closer over the course of the series.



If it weren't for the ending (and the sequel series, which tries to answer some of the threads left dangling but mostly just ends up not really working for me), this would probably be an 8 or 9/10 series. With it, though, I have to drop it to 7/10. Still worthwhile, and I'll still re-read it again! ...But it's hard to get that ending's taste out of my mouth, which is just unfortunate.

Some people may think that unless you have read the great classics you won't be able to appreciate literature. But isn't this statement the same as saying that there can't be any improvement? Why is a fictional story about a man who has a pretty face, who lives in a fantasy world not a true piece of literature? Simply because such a story would be full of cliches and really boring. But, is this story such a simple and boring one? Of course not. But you need to see literature as more than pure entertainment. Sometimes even an author can't fully understand the quality of his work. For me it was one incredible ride. From pure love to the deepest hatred. The ending was rushed. This is my only complaint. Sadly ..

Gosh, I feel like Yu Wo got steadily better at adding in feels and in the last volume she got me crying over even little sentences because I could really feel the characters emotions through them. I ended up finishing the last volume at 3am as it was too good to put down!

I originally read the manga (up to ch17) and the first two volumes of the novel in English but then kind of forgot about it because of the long update time. It was only by coincidence that I saw someone put this on their favourite book list on FB and I started fangirling at them and they told me they had the whole series in chinese! And so began my journey to struggle through reading it in chinese, at first I had to google every few word and it was really hard and took a long time to read but by the last volume I didn't really need help reading it so I really have to thank Yu Wo for improving my chinese.... Personally, I thought the english translations were good when I started with them and I'm really happy to find out that they have finished translating (if I knew that I probably wouldn't have borrowed the book and suffer through Chinese) but after reading the Chinese version I found it more funny and it feels more natural coming from the characters. I may try reading the English translation when I have time and I'll update this review seeing as I'm saying this based on the 2 volumes I read in English.

Language aside, the characterisation is also done very well, each character surprised me and none were predictable (Aside for the fat pig king who was supposed to be), the story starts off shallow and they seem shallow because of their fake personas but then we find out how deep the characters are and that they say is quite relatable. I feel like I can see each character clearly and as the author says at the end of the series, the twelve Knights in a way represents some of the different kinds of people in our world. Sun, as the ones that're always smiling even when they don't feel like it. Judge, the one who's serious about everything and people are scared to approach them because of that but he can actually be nice and smile when you get to know them. Storm, the one who seems to never be putting in hard work yet he does when no ones watching. And so on..I feel like LSK is so easy to read and entertaining yet if you wanted me to write an essay I could also draw out all the depth it has in it.

The plot is also unexpected, and the author sort of breaks the forth wall when the characters themselves expect a cliché yet what happens is totally unheard of or a totally different method but same result. A lot of the focus is the brotherhood between these Knights through the events that occur and especially in the last volume, it is really touching (literally in the last volume 😂. ) I actually think of the series as a type of mystery, except once again it is not typical as half the mystery is Sun/Judge 's method of solving the problem and what they're going to do to solve it that is the mystery. Even though the story is told in first person, we still have no clue what Sun is thinking or planning as he's so unpredictable. I always enjoy the end of each volume as the author explains what happened and then suddenly everything makes sense....

Well basically this makes a really interesting, easy, fun and intriguing read! I would definitely recommend this to future readers and if you want to improve your chinese, reading this in Chinese is a great way to do it! Now I really want to read YuWo's other works!! (aside from 1/2 Prince which is what made me get into LKS, now I actually think overall LKS is better) Let the fun and feels commence XD

I must say I didn't expect how this series has turn out in term of character development and story plot in the good sense of term.
It's a fun and easy novel to read and the first two books were what you could have expected, but then it became different the more you read the series. The humor didn't die along the way, but you will still get some poignant moment and the plot flow become similar to a suspense novel where unexpected twists and truths got slowly revealed.

If you really think that this, was one of the best novels ever written, you probably need to read more. Try Moby-Dick, The Great Gatsby, The Old Man and the Sea or at least something, if somehow you, like Joey Tribbiani... errr... had sex in high school instead of reading.

The Legend of Sun Knight is witty, creative, funny with solid cast of characters. One of better one in Asian light novel (if you compare this to the boring LMS, Arc, etc etc). But, yeah, this is not one of the greatest novel ever written. Not even remotely.

So, I'll give it an 8 for a good enjoyable read.

I was a bit sceptical for a while before I started the novel. I had already read 1/2 Prince - both the manhwa and the novel and LotSK - the manhwa and had so-so to bad expectations for this one however... Was I wrong!?

It`s really well done - funny, cute, easy to follow and as a whole unexpectedly entertaining, The main charaters are likable and the story has a lot of twists - well about that... some of them didn`t quite made sense but whatever. Sun grew on me and I definitelly think of him as one of my fav male characters(I don`t usually go for his type of personality LOL)
I highly recommend this novel to any fan of its genres and tropes

This is seriously my favorite thing to read of all time. It's funny, witty, wonderfully satirical (not like those "parody" anime that fall into the same traps they make fun of) and surprisingly complex. I haven't found anything else quite like it even though I'm an avid fan of most genres of manga/anime/light novels. Something that really makes this work stand out IMO is the theme of duality that runs throughout; all the characters are the exact opposite of being one dimensional, and it is extremely interesting to see the various facets of their personalities and character they are characterized with and how different they can be. The main character Grisia Sun is one of the most complex yet interesting characters I've ever seen portrayed in an anime/manga/light novel series. He represents all good and benevolence and pure kindness, and shows it really well. Except, he's also narcissistic, lazy, manipulative while still having the capability to actually be a good person (at least towards the other Knights... Sometimes)

Even the plot is quite well thought out, with no loose ends -- seemingly insignificant things from the start do actually play parts later on, making for a coherent and detailed reading experience. Even though it sounds a bit like I'm praising LSK as a literary masterpiece though, it's not. It's just a really good light-hearted read with surprising depth that I think anyone would enjoy.

To the males: yes, this is classified as shoujo, but it's actually a bit misleading since there are literally no distinguishable shoujo elements (not even romance) which I can find at all, coming from a former mega shoujo fan.

Sersiously, everyone should read it (including you). 10 is not enough to describe how awesome it is (if this is considered a 10, then almost literally everything else I've read is probably a 7 or under, and I've read loads of stuff from almost every genre.).

This is just amazing! Usually novels with a first person perspective tends to be boring but the main character makes a great narrator! This novel was the one to make me into an avid Yu Wo fan. I read a lot of her novels and I have to say this one is the best.
The translations are great enough to understand the puns and humor. But if you are confident in your Chinese then I suggest reading this in Chinese.This novel is the best!
Even at this minute I am checking for a new chapter.

this is the kind of novel you would want to read over & over & over & over again

then after rereading it a few hundred times till you even memorize the side characters and dream of being a holy knight with them, you search through the internet for everyyy fanfic you get your hands on, this ranks the same as the Legendary Moonlight Sculptor

Yu wo's Legend of Sun Knight is perhaps one of the best novels I've ever read. And I've read a massive amount of books. I spent pretty much my whole life reading. I can not describe how amazing it really is without insulting a few (alot) people. Honestly, you've got to at least be slightly above average intelligence to appreaciate this for all its worth. The plot seems stunninly simple at times, yet if you look a little deeper, you'll see that its not.

As a writer I am truly inspired by Yu Wo's ability to make such a vivid and realistic world. LSK is Amazing! Its so neat and precise, with rarely a loose end in sight. The more you read it, the more you get sucked in (which in my case is something that hardly happens)

This really needs more love. Lolz.
