I'm actually not into something like 'the grim reaper falling in love with the person he's supposed to take the life away' but when I read the good comments I thought, give it a try since it's only 8 chapters and wow! I actually loved it. Not too cliche, and really sweet. A must read! smile

i have to admit i read it coz the art was promising.. but it ended so well i love the little twists and turns near the end.. also that extra oneshot (0.5 Lunch) was to die for it was so good too, but sad..

The best "supernatural" shoujo

Probably one of if not THE best short shoujo stories out there. The art style is fun and refreshing, the characters are well-defined and interesting, and the supernatural element is played up just enough to remind you that it exists without being totally front and center. The romance is well-paced despite the length. Motives for the romance are excellent and believable. The romance between Ai and Ren focuses almost 100% on character interaction--meaning that physical looks play almost no part in their getting together. The characters all change each other and effect each other's lives, and every emotion feels very real.

I also like that this is all told from Ai's perspective.

Really don't have any complaints. Tobina Touya is my favorite mangaka and I believe this is her best work.

Very Sweet

It was short but it was great. I think I'm just a sucker for love stories where the main character is bashful tsundere and the guy is playful trickster. The romance between the main characters just made me blush it was so adorable. And I liked the art even more than I expected to. It's a bit different and dark but I started to like that about it, not that I didn't like it to begin with. The story itself isn't anything mind blowing plot-wise, it's pretty simple, but in a good way (especially because its focus was romance) and the whole grim reaper + human romance (basically unorthodox love) didn't feel cliche to me at all because the male lead felt surprisingly human most of the time. I was pleased with the ending even though it was a little unexplained (at least fully), but that didn't matter much.

Sad that it's over. Wish I could read more similar stories.

You know how there are those stories and manga that just capture your attention? There are also those ones that, no matter how hard you try, you really just can't get into.
This one's the type that just grab you. It's an interesting premise, and the characters are really very lovable. Ren is strong and admirable, and I really liked the rest of the characters, too! It's sort of a refreshing, airy, interesting and sweet manga. It's not like... (prepare for weird dessert analogy) really heavy cake with lots of frosting; it's more like sorbet after a hot summer's day. It's not too focused on comedy, it's not too depressing or emotional. It just has a very good feel to it. Even the art is sort of whimsical and elegant.
Anyway, what I'm getting at is... read this! It's really a nice manga. biggrin

These types of stories are my favorite. Like the person before me commented, this story is light, yet very emotional. It doesn't have a sugary feel to it, nor a depressive one. I want to give Ai (the main male protagonist) a big hug! He starts off just "playing", yet he is drawn deeper and deeper by Ren (the main female protagonist) unconsciously, until he is trapped in the abyss of love (hmm, maybe possessiveness? not sure what to name this feeling) by his own will. Some Ai's thoughts are so sweet, yet they are borderline obsessive (which I like biggrin!!). Anyways, although Sarashi Asobi only has two chapters out so far, I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a story that is a slow and light read, but filled with emotion and a maybe a slight foreboding of tragedy!

Art style

I quite liked the art style and the drawing of Ai. The curly hair is also nice as for some reason I hardly see main male protaginists with curly hair. The story was sweet and I like self-sacrificing characters like Ai. The female lead Ren was also interesting. The character and their growth was nice but I felt it wasn't told in the best way it could be. The plot held things and ideas I liked but once again wasn't told the best way thus didn't make me feel as much. I actually really enjoyed the one shot at the end and it made me cry. May have even been better than the main story, or at least it was told better. The main story was also somewhat confusing to me but all in all an enjoyable short read!

Well, she's tough but she somehow an "accident prone" type of character.
Whenever she went to help others, she always get herself into trouble which kinda annoys me,
however the story was good.
Moreover, that reaper said struck me.
"He choose to rot.."

there weren't really tear jerking romantic scenes, but the way they showed they care and love for each other were enough for me. i mean, the love was conveyed properly by their acts without too much force hugging or kissing like what smuts have.

As far as shinigami romances go this has to be one of, if not, the best I've ever read. I reallly can't see anything to bash about this series. Managed to be sweet, interesting, and funny.
