Okay, I've followed this manga for YEARS now, so I know what its been through development wise. And I don't mean that as in plot development, I mean development as in developing an APPEAL TO READERS.

I won't lie, this manga SUCKS in the beginning. Hard. The art is simple and lacking at some points, and sometimes you wonder just where the plot crawled away and died. This is why alot of ppl drop the series unfortunately, and its a shame. It really is.

This manga won't really reel you in until you get past the first 60-80 chapters. From then on, its pure intoxicating mafia infused FIRE. The plot really hits home and STICKS and watching Tsuna develop is amazing. And You WILL notice a difference in art from the beginning to waiting for the next weekly release.

I faithfully wait for Reborn's weekly releases and I swoon over Tsuna and Enma every chance I get, which I thought would NEVER happen when I first started this series judging by the art then. But what girl wouldn't NOW when the art has turned so lush, detailed, precise; and dare I say it, even Beautiful.

Yes Tsuna... you are beautiful. Especially when you fight not for the Vongola, but for your famiglia. *tear*

SO ALL IN ALL... don't judge this series based on the first 60-80 chapters or so. Hell, you may be better off just skipping those chapters. & You can always watch the anime as a reference, too. 203 episodes total. It ends after the "future arc" roughly chapter 283-ish. This is my favorite shonen to date. Awesome story, great character development, Art quality eventually reaches otherworldly levels.

You'll be glad you gave it a chance. [:

I know why the first few dozen chapters are getting a bad rep. Believe me! I stopped reading after the first volume and was like "where is this going?" but then I made myself pick it up again a few days later, and forced myself to read. I guess it was a little because of the humour; it really is one of the funnier mangas I read, at least in the beginning. The purpose of the earlier chapters, I thought, was to introduce the main characters and get some laughs. Yes, 5 volumes is a bit long (or was it 6?) for introducing main characters but I actually kind of enjoyed the episodic flow and light-hearted comedy. So i have to give some credit to the earlier chapters...
On the other hand, the recent chapters are fun to read (and the art is awesome!) for different reasons. Reborn! has taken a more classical shounen route. I was still confused as to where the story was going during the Rokudo Mukuro ark, but after that (whoo, go Varia! xP) Reborn easily became one of my fav shounen mangas.
SO I say read it if you haven't, hang in there if you just started, and keep reading if you are!

My friend introduce me to the series since she told me that this was one of her favorite. It took a long time to finally start watching it and reading it but finally.
One the first thing about the series is what the characters use for weapons. Yeah people say it strange that they have Rings, Boxes then animals, etc. I like that they just don't have those things to ware for show cause i wouild have been upset if They tounrment for the rings was just for show.
So i'm glad that the author did that. It's better then using the same weapon all the time like Ichigo from bleach using his bankai form all the time, which switches from hollow and becomes cool but only for a instance and then it goes back to that. And I believe that you can only go so far for weapons like Gokudera only has dyimate. Please someone tell me how fare can you go with that beside them being rockets. So i think that it gives them new techque and fighting styles for cool battle. And I guess you kinda can say the animals are like pokemon with the type of weapons and such but you might as well say that for any anime or story that has a animal or monster that fights beside you. So don't listen Stella Nox Fleuret for I quite disagree with him.

And for this only to satify girls is wrong. It's like saying any kind of seires that has a innoce boy or has a bunch of boys in it make it a yaoi. And to be quite honest here, you always get that from any anime series like Naruto X Sasuke even though it's a shonen. And apparently if this was a big hit in japan then apparently it not just girls that like it. And to be honest more girls like Shounen manga that actually boys do for most mangas. This is a shonen manga and of course like for allmost any kind of seires their mostly be a yaoi, yuri or hentai couple from it, no matter what. That goes for Claymore, One piece, Rurouni Kenshin, Shingeki no Kyojin, including bleach. Adn yes there are actually guys that watch this series. Even my friends who are men like this seires.

Artwork I have to say that at first when i watch the anime of season one. I did not like it. it wasn't as good as Naruto and Ichigo for where it stand but after it went on the Artwork from Artland and from the manga series has gotten so much better.

The plot I believe was a little strange and kind boring for no new villains were coming. It was just Tsuna, saving the day in his underwear which i did wanted him to stop that, but in his other forms he denfintly much better. I love right now how the plot it going, for i can mostly perdict what's going tp happen that hey! That doesn't mean it's not a good series, and there were some part where i though it was done but i was wrong. the fight a nice to watch espically Tsuna, Gokudera and to me, lambo. The villans are normal in these kind of manga series like Xanus who wanted to become the next mafia X and The villan in the future arc for is just normal that they wanted to do this or that's there plan so what's the problem.

Characters- The characters, like Hetalia are mostly all loveable, even some of the villans who is their ememy the first time, then alie the next are unique and funny. the character development for the main characters DOES change if you read long enough to see it cause in real live you can't really except people to change in just one chapter. So for Tsuna this is pretty normal that he does want to be in the maifa. Cause in most series all the main character wants to be IS normal. Also what a lot of people think and know is that the 2 main female characters do not fight in this seires. My question is Why should they have to fight? Cause They have their own reason and purpose for this series like Winry from FMA who could fix Edward automail with her hand instead of killing scar or using her hands to fight people and readers love that character. So why can't these girls be the same, for cooking and doing other things like watching over Lambo so he doesn't get into to much trouble. So they really don;t need to fight. Cause usally when they do that for female character like Orihime and such, they readers tend to say their usueless anyway. Beside that that the author has other female charcters that can fight instead of them. Otherwise the characters are funny, yet unique in their own way espically the infant characters.

Comedy-Is awesome in this series. My sister who rarely watches anime and doesn't laugh a lot found this series to be own of her favorite comedies, tha she can't help but watch it over and over again.

Fights-Some are epic some are good to watch. To me I like Tsuna's Gokudera-kun and Lambo's fight the mostly, and hey you might think of it differently. But people complain that they repeat the part where that have to train to get powers up. Well my question is...Isn't that the same for almost any shounen manga? I mean... Ichigo from bleach had to lose against Rukia's brother twice to save her and he had to gaini his powers somewhere so why does it make a difference with this series,, Partlicly any shonen manga, the characters have to train to get stronger, unless the readers just expect them to come out of thin air or something, And if the characters never lost then what's the point if you know that they're always going to win. But i must say this that sometimes i wish they9 actually win the fight first then start training like they do in Naruto, and Yu Yu hakusho.

In my own opinion I would give this manga series a shot, if you liek Comedy and if your the type that can get into the different kinds of weapons thing. I find this series another great and unique series that desreves it praise for how far the author has gotten us.I hope that they somehow finish the anime series when the manga ends.

At first i wasn't really instrested in this series but my friend tolf me about it and i gave it a shot.

Love the characters, love the comedy, love the plot.

Ppl argue that it's repeats of fights well guess what, bleach, and naruto are the same thing in not just those, but almost any action/adventure series. gotta get tough somehow. cant wait to read more.

I don't know about you guys, but I have a lot of time to waste. I've pretty much read all the popular action mangas, and I really have to say this was one of my favourites.
Sure, the plot gets weird at times, even stupid maybe. But it's not that bad when you compare it to everything else, and I would have to say it was rather creative. There weren't any major cliche parts that made me blanch.
Besides, I really loved the characters, and the art was adorable and expressive. I don't go around looking for flaws when I read a manga, and I found nothing that greatly affected the reading experience.
The only thing I would really complain about is the lack of character development in the protagonist, and the lack of "stuff" happening between the protagonist and the girl.
Other than that, I highly recommend this manga, and I think that anyone will be able to enjoy it if they're willing to.

I dunno where to put this manga, I certainly enjoyed my time with it, but I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends. Why? Because I can't guarantee they'll enjoy it. The first few volumes are Japanese gag manga that I found to be at best semi-funny and then it transitioned quite nicely into an above average battle manga. However, is the hurdle or reading those few volumes to reach the battle manga part worth it? That's something I've never been able to decide since those early gag volumes are a large time-sink and the battle manga at the end is only 'above average' at best. I am in two minds about this manga - I wouldn't recommend it to anyone to read (there are so many better manga I would recommend) but at the same time I'm not sorry I spent my time reading it.

I LOVED the school days arc. Idgaf what anyone else says-- even though the art wasn't the greatest at the time, I liked how ridiculous the stories were. Didn't like the arcs from TYL onwards.
It's a shame when good manga sinks into the "super seiyan phase" that 95% of every shounen is doomed to; in this phase, all they do for numerous chapters is supposedly grow stronger. It's annoying to have to read weeks of that because there isn't much action in it. Just upgrades on weapons, being beat up, patched up, find out that they have some super secret power they can unlock to defeat the enemy, and thrown back into the ring. This is just how every arc seems to be since they introduced Mukuro.

... Plus, those fangirls can be menacing. I'm glad I was able to pull myself out in time.

Bleh. Well I stared reading this because I saw some stuff about Mukuro and Chrome... and I was at first put off by the first chapters but I had heard that it got better and it did. If the cliché shounen can be considered good... the main reason I persisted with this story is because of a few of the characters and because I felt it would be a waste to drop it when I'd spent so much time on it already. It really isn't the best story, there are some good points but most of it is just a jumble of different and strange storylines that ultimately lead... nowhere...

Plot- There are so many arcs, and hardly any to me really feel at all connected. Sure the characters reappear
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
With all the bad guys now good guys of course!
but other than that there is few things that connect these very bizarre story lines. Yes, I did enjoy the idea of the middle arcs but the first and last arcs are pretty boring. The beginning was bad, then I began to enjoy the story as more characters I enjoyed were introduced then I got bored of the story again and it ended (thankfully). The plot really isn't that deep, and there is barely any character development. The plot repeats like any other shounen action manga; bad guy and defeat then power up and win, then bad guy and defeat then power up and win and so on.

Characters- I already mentioned I read this story for the characters, and truthfully there were some that I found extremely enjoying. However, they were trapped in this manga with a terrible main character. There were so many characters (good and bad alike) that there is no time to really develop anyone and I'm left wishing that some of the characters had their own manga. But alas, they are stuck in this one...

Art- Gets better, in fact it's quite good. The faces are expressive, the lines AMAZING, wonderful details and just an all-around very smooth style that looks wonderful. This is the one point I can say is wholly wonderful.

Other- Don't read it. It's not worth it. There were parts I enjoyed (mostly because of the characters... in fact only because of the characters) but all in all this long story isn't worth the read. It goes nowhere, the main character remains static and all my favorite characters are unfortunately forgotten in the multitude of average and horrible ones. It REALLY isn't worth your time.

4/10- Ok

I would say you should start with the anime first if you're looking for a light hearted and warm show and then start with the manga.
The manga itself is also entertaining and I think that's the best thing about Reborn!
A lot of the comments already say what there is to say about what's good and bad and I have to agree with both.
Negatives: can get repetitive. Can be annoying. The main character can get on your nerves, not because of his wimpy attitude but his 'switch' from being wimpy to fearless in one split second. Not to mention his weird, hypocritical sense of morals. And the fact that this manga teaches you that if you suddenly obtain power from gadgets you have a God-given right to act tough. Adding to that is the SEXISM that exists here and in every other Shounen. I mean Kyoko and Haru??!! wth?? and all the 'tough' girls aren't even tough, they are just annoying. It's trying to imply that women are some Rapunzel's waiting to be saved by a guy. i don't understand, all the guys have various personalities and yet all the women have love on their minds. Plus, all the characters apparently are good-looking and that's just shallow.
BUT despite these shortcomings its a pretty good Shounen. Depends on your level of tolerance.
