Case of style over substance

The art is so gorgeous that I've given this a higher rating than it perhaps deserved.

The problem is that nothing makes sense. The author introduces so many questions, and only very few of them are fully answered. Scene changes happen before you've figured out what was happening in the previous scene. Characters come and go without the reader finding out who they actually were in relation to the main characters. The motivations of the characters are often impenetrable. Even the ending was obscure. I'm sure inside the author's mind this all made sense but I'm afraid she just makes the reader work too hard in trying to work out what's happening. It just was not enjoyable, which is a shame because it certainly had potential.

Nothing Special

It was an okay read, nothing too special or anything to get excited about, it was just okay. I felt at times confused on what was going on as far as the story goes. I also feel like the characters weren't developed at all and I coudn't grasp the fact that the main character fell in love all of a sudden without any indication as to why she feels the way she does.

To me, the art was just okay. I didn't like it that much at first but it grew on me as I read the volumes.

I am not that much into vampire stories, nowadays they are so overrated. I randomly picked Model, without that many expectations. And I was right.

At first, it started rather well. A girl that study art, she meets a vampire and she becomes fascinated by his image, so she wants to draw him, but she has to give him blood from her. It was very obvious from the beginning that the girl and the vampire would fall in love.

At points, the story felt rushed, it was constantly change scenes. While the first 3 volumes were simple enough, later it was a bit confusing. Jae, the main female character was a bit of a tomboy; She was constantly after the vampire Michael, while another guy really loved her. There is a love triangle and also shounen-ai. The story was also a lot of poetic.

I didn't like any of the characters, almost all of them lacked development. And the artwork... For me, it was awful. It was similar to Tarot Cafe - Michael for example, looked like a woman. All of the characters were like they were wearing a dark shade lipstick.

Don't expect anything special.

Okay, firstly, the art is not bad, I can still tell out who's who but the biggest problem is the chronological of the story. It's overly confusing and I have no idea what the heck is going on. In the beginning of the story, everything went smoothly, the plot is understandable but after when Jae arrived in the mansion and throw in some additional characters (especially the part where the model with two souls arrived) everything is like in chaos! Plus there's flashback and all the dialogue seems very confusing. It's like A likes B, B likes A and C likes A and B likes C...it's just too much. I can't apprehend the informations at all.

And I realized that a lot of korean mangaka, they enjoy writing confusing plot. Especially the ones with historical element in it. This is certainly not my first time reading some manhwa with ancient story and just like any other manhwa that I have read, they are all confusing. At least I understand the ending. But I really, really, really do not understand the relationship of all the characters. Jae's character is simple enough. But the rest...they're just...too complicated. I'm never ever touching such manhwa, ever again.

Just WTF is happening?

Model is such a strange read. The oddness may be a little justified by its own gothic nature, but damn, just what in the world is happening? The manhwa was ultimately marred by unexplained character inconsistencies and horrendously bad pacing.

That's just too bad, because the art is gorgeous and the story started rather interestingly (not necessarily equates to 'good' but engaging enough). I have to stress it out again, the pacing was terrible....very VERY terrible. Each new page is cut off from the previous in terms of plot. It's almost like the author dropped all the pages and forgot to arrange them back in order. I just had no idea what was going on.

Even after all that, I still did manage to forge a skeleton of the story, and whaddaya know, more problems arise. Somewhere along the way, the MC kinda went out of her awesome character. This Michael character doesn't appeal to me. Eva disappointed me. Ken was probably the least problematic in my opinion, at least he's very active within the manhwa. It's too much angst, Jesus Christ.

I do not mean to confuse anybody but this was a very weird experience for me.
I liked the art a lot, but then again I hated it too. Let me put it this way. Beautiful people. but then again too beautiful people. I know it sounds extremely stupid saying this about drawn people and vampires non-the-less they were very non-realistic in the sense that they bothered me. sometimes they looked like pencil people. Or like people from fashion sketches. The girl looked like a long haired guy and the vampire guy looked like a girl. I am telling you, beautiful but then again too beautiful!
Plot started out good then got a little too convoluted, then somewhere lost its way, and sort of got concluded somewhat nicely. Like readers said before me, at the beginning the girl has grit, the premise is somewhat new, blood for modeling, there is egging from both sides that makes you think sexual tension, and then the beginning of the middle comes when she moves to the house. I honestly can't decide if the story of Eve and Micheal make any sense, or if the new client character was really necessary, even though I understand, that that character was supposed to be the ship on which the necessary newer character sailed in, who was somebody but in fact was somebody else completely! (I am telling you it did get convoluted!) BUT that wasn't the end of the twists either. At one point I had to stop reading, go back and read again because it got too confusing about the people of the vampire household (the flash back, who was what, when and why and then who is for whom now and why)
But it tidied up as nice as it was possible and special thumbs up, that the manhwa-ka didn't forget about the sailing-ship character.
In short, even though I can't really say anything really bad about it, I am not knocked out of my bobby-socks. If you are bound at home on a cold rainy afternoon and don't know what to do with yourselves, pick this manhwa, to make up your own mind. I would really appreciate it, if you could tell me afterwards, if I liked it or not too!

addicting but confusing

i got really addicted to this manhwa but mostly because i didn't know wtf was going on, so i kept on reading on to figure it out. the plot had potential, but everything seemed to be a bit messy. it was hard to understand what was going on. for example, there were a few parts where it would flip to scene that had nothing to do with what was going on or it would flip back and forth from the past and present. i just wish it had been organized better, but with all my complaints about it, i still enjoyed the story very much. the art is pretty good. i don't read anything with awful drawings, so i'd give the art a 9 probably.

To start with I don't like the artwork, indeed the scenery is beautiful, but I don't like the male characters, they're way too effeminate. The story is dragged for too long, really at points it bored me to death, maybe because it wasn't any romance in the first half. I admit the mysteries kept my interest, and I just loved the dark atmosphere. I also liked that the heroine was a galaxy away from the typical shoujo crybabies. To be honest I don't even understand why this manga was labeled as shoujo. But the thing that really made me read on was the strong feeling the author put in this work.

The best manga/manhwa story I've ever read
by Snappysky

The story is more about different aspects of love itself than romance. It is about how love weakens or strengthens a person and how its selfless aspects wars against the selfish aspects.

The story uses many symbols which are important in understanding the story and the emotions/thoughts of the characters: to list some of them:
- the word 'model' symbolizes both a subject to be studied/viewed (such as catwalk model or model for a painter) and a facade one wears to hide the truth (eg. Michael uses the facade of being a vampire to hide his vulnerability and need for love. It was this facade that made Jae want to study him in the first place. But as the story went, this facade was peeled away layer by layer.)
- roses/scent of roses: love/longing for love
- the state of the moon symbolizes whether the characters are honest to their own feelings. (the moon hiding behind the clouds means the characters are being dishonest to themselves)

On the surface, the story seems slow and may be a bit bland, but it is full of undercurrents of emotions. If one expects a typical vampire/human romance, one would be disappointed. But if one wants something with deeper meanings, deeper emotions, and is atypical for vampire/human interaction, then this is the story to read.

I enjoyed it so much that I read it more than 5 times (lost count of how many) in order to understand and savor every single sentence and every thought/emotion the characters are experiencing. Even though I understand everything now, I still read and enjoy it. I read this story 2 years ago, and it is still my favorite.

very captivating...

some of the words used were almost poetic

however everything was a bit TOO mysterious! even after reading it i only have a vague understanding of everything. how she fell in love with michael still is beyond me. that part was a bit abrupt...and how does ken actually feel about her? was it true love? or lust or a craving for somebody to love him!?

there are too many unanswered questions

besides that i think the art is lovely...the heroine kinda reminds me of the girl from perfect girl evolution.
