Mio Keisuke is a high-schooler who leads a rather dull, boring life. He can't keep a girlfriend, because being a kept man's too much of a hassle, and he can't bring himself to fall in love and want to please his woman. Then one day he seeks shelter from a sudden downpour under the awning of an apartment owned by Yugi Kakeru, and suddenly his life isn't so dull anymore as he finds himself falling for his aloof and yet obviously lonely friend.

Typical plot, but done well
by naikan

Rating: 8.0  / 10.0
The plot is kind of run-of-the-mill: guy falls in love with someone who has trouble getting out of a bad relationship. However, the pacing was done much better than other manga with similar plots, and the author recognizes that relationships take time, which I very much appreciated. I read the Chinese translation, so I cannot comment on the actual quality of writing, but I got a good sense of deep but not overly dramatic narrative and dialogue, which made an otherwise typical BL plot fairly enjoyable to read.

The art is quite nice, as well. The characters display a spectrum of expressions, and at times, the right expression conveyed all that was needed to be said. This is a characteristic that showcases one of the few advantages manga has over novels, and sadly not that many authors take advances of it. So hats off to this author for making this manga enjoyable to watch as well as read.

Enjoyable characters

Hm...there are some parts I love and some parts I really found boring.
First, it kinda reminds me of Junjou Romantica. Guy who's in love with friend, friend announces he's getting married, other guys steps up? Classical Usami-Takahiro-Misaki
Anyways, the good parts are mostly the surprise ones. You see, it's pretty predictable and yet it's not.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I thought Yugi was the seme, to begin with.
The umbrella part was awesome. Not only the whole metaphor, but
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
how we realize Yugi's in love with his sempai when we find out the umbrella is his is hauntingly well done.
And then everything I kept thinking proved to be wrong.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I thought Yugi was already with the sempai, for real. Then I thought Mio's blackmail would work - both times. I thought he'd confess.
I thought Yugi would easily fall for Mio and all the plot would've been for nothing.
I would never expect that four year gap in the story.

And I love the kissing scene, how it's not actually shown, but under what? Yeah, that's right: a NEW umbrella. Amazing!

But then again, I hated the sex scene. I thought it was a horrible, senseless moment for Mio to take a step further and I feel like he totally abused Yugi.
And this is one of the bad parts.
Also, the art is good at times, but some other moments, the characters seem way too childish. I prefer it when they are older, but then Yugi's not as hot as he was before...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
And though it surprised me, I didn't like Yugi as a seme. He's so cooler and sexier than Mio (when they are young). Thank God that reversed when they grew up.

Also, it never got me crying, and I cry pretty easily, which I guess can be counted as a bad point for a drama manga.
And last, I thought it was way too short. For a one shot I guess it's as good as the plot could've been, but if it was longer, this would be so much better, because it has so much potential...

Even though the plot's not particularly original, Junko managed to deliver very well! This is my favourite work from her because I can feel all the angst ;_; I loved how their relationship developed and the symbolism with the umbrellas. Great art and story. The one and only thing I didn't like about this manga was just that ONE scene - jeez Keisuke, how can you be such a douche?

I really liked this manga for a couple of reasons 1 the relationship is really well paced and really sweet 2 the art is brilliant, yugi is amazing 3 everyone basically acted their age, in a lot of BL the characters are unrealistic and do things that no one really could get away with, but here everyone was rational and human. Yugi and mio are really really cute together too!

Exciting

Reading this got me pretty excited and I loved all the angst going around. I liked seeing how they both matured over time yet they were still themselves. The art was really nice and I ahree that Yugi-San was
very sexy the way he was drawn, I might be a teeny bit dejected that he loses all his cool and sexy faces when he's uke though LOL But it's nice how he can show a different side of him in bed with one he loves. Mio also matured and I love how the unrequited good guy received love in return instead of the object of affection falling for the ad guy that's emotionally bad for him. Even the antiprotagonist was good in the sense that he's taking care of the woman from the arranged marriage.

Really Good.

I like stories that don't have the screaming/psychosis like usual manga. The people were calm in this one and actually resembled humans, which was great.

I like the two leads and the friends and all the rest of them. I like that no one was afraid of sex (like so often happens in manga), and that they were all fairly mature. The story was really sweet, and the two leads helped each other become better versions of themselves by being together.

I would definitely read this again. In fact, I wish it was longer than a short story.

My only (slight) issue is that the transitions between chapters can be a little bit confusing, but it's not bad.

I agree with the comment by naikan, that the art and expressions in this are really good. One look is enough to convey thoughts and emotions a lot of times, and that's a talent to be able to do that. Most writers slack in that department - but not this one.

It was sweet again but not very well done like Konbini-kun. I liked that story much better! But this one is good too, the pace of the story is okay, not confusing, understandable and the art was cute! The characters are pretty okay, the messages being conveyed is clear, right expressions and all but still, I think it lacks something. Not sure what, but I just know that when I read this, I feel like there's something missing. But anyway, it's a decent read. :>

I love it, when reading Manga makes my heart throb! This one definitely did it for me. I did not find it typical, because it dealt with rejection in a different way than it is usually portrayed. I thought it was quite realistic and the outcome actually surprised me. This was very enjoyable.

That was quite a lovely manga!

The story was a bit expected but still nicely played.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Mio, a bored teenager comes across his first real love and first heartbreak as his crush loves someone else. There was no quick solution as Yugi was very attached to Tachibana. But slowly, Mio's care and love won Yugi's heart.
There was quite a lot of character development and good interaction scenes throughout the story which kept me hooked till the end.

Definitely worth reading!

my favorite by this artist. She really managed to write a realistic (for manga) story. She definitely showed her talent for using facial expressions to get emotions across. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
