Perfect (slight, vague spoilers?)

I usually don't write reviews but I just had to for this series.

I finally finished reading this yesterday and.. wow. No manga has ever moved/touched me as much as this one. I cried so much my tears wouldn't come out anymore.. and then I cried some more. The characters are all so lovable and the ending is very unpredictable (I read somewhere that someone said you could guess how the story ends by the end of chapter 1.. that's not true.) The art is wonderful and there are absolutely no "filler" chapters. I'm pretty sure the author planned out every single detail before starting the series (which is awesome!)

I definitely recommend this series, but if you get upset easily and/or can empathize well with the characters, you might want to reconsider. The ending is VERY sad. (See Klein's review) But there are also lots of funny and heartwarming moments in the manga as well.

To all the people who made fun of the cover art: you are missing out on one of the greatest mangas ever (in my opinion of course!) Don't judge a book by its cover, give it a try! smile

Edit: @calstine, I wouldn't exactly dismiss the BL as unrequited ^^;;

I just finished reading the last volume and have followed this series through the years. I agree with some people when they say the cover does the story and art no justice, but then again, there is something very poignant about its simplicity as well. I remember just a couple of months back, while at Kinokuniya, a group of girls were making fun of its chinese title, saying that it looks and sounds like some old grandpa comic. I wanted to point out that yes it is indeed a story about a grandfather in fact, but it is also something that goes deeper than just its title, its cover, its art. But to do so seemed like I demeaned the story, because it didn't need defending at all. I've read manga for over a decade, spanned wide genres and own thousands. This is special. It left me fragile but wiser, sadder but nostalgic, but most of all appreciative. I didn't get this until I read the whole story in its entirety, and I don't think any spoiler should turn you away from this.

I went through hell to look for the rest of the volumes. I can't contain myself after reading Chap 24 (of Vol 5)! I just had to look for the raw and finish the series. And after many hours of browsing the net, I finally found them!!! I've finished all 8 volumes and I'm going to read it all over again. This is one of those manga with a great story, wonderful characters, some witty scenes with a little unexpected side to the plot. I can't believe I missed this manga until now...! What have I been doing?

I read the final chapter... when this guy hand the knight chess to Mitsuya, I burst into tears instantaneously. It was really painful. Things... just had to end this way. If only Mitsuya was able to stay with Jin... aaaaahhh I'm getting teary again, thinking about it.

This manga will make you cry. It's epicly good. The only reason I registered to this website, is to rate this series a 10. The art is beautiful, the characters are three-dimensional and the story is very good. This manga will definitely touch your heart.

Warning: Slight Spoilers

It's rather dramatic, with one event happening after another, but despite that slight rush of drama, it's still very interesting. The drawing is lovely (Mitsuya is so pretty! xD), much like rindtron said--clean and simple. The characters are still slightly mysterious, despite the four chapters released, but that only makes me more anxious to learn about them and their quirks. And, goodness! The humor! XDD It's not exactly jam-packed with it, but the relationship between Jin and Mitsuya is total win, with enough homosexual puns to make a fangirl sigh. XD And giggle, and then feel teary. As much as I like shoujo, I have to say that in this case the relationship between Jin and Mitsuya really makes me hope that it develops a little further, but since this was published in Hakuensha, it probably isn't. *cry*

The beginning is a little shaky, what with the narrator's mother and grandfather, and his violin playing (which hopefully will be developed more later on..). But it gets better once he goes back in time, and the manga-ka makes his situation very interesting. What makes this manga only more intriguing are the many questions still left unanswered--what was Mitsu like? What happened to Mitsu after Mitsuya went back in time and took his place? How and when will Mitsuya go back to his time? What will happen to Mitsuya as he learns more about the time period he was transported back to?

I recommend this series to people who like light comedy-drama series, with an interesting plot and pleasing art, and who don't mind shounen-ai. Of course, you might like this manga even if you don't care much for it--it *is* pretty good! Though I really hope that it'll get updated soon.. sad (

Aaah for a second without paying attention to the rate at which this is ordinarily translated I thought this was licensed due to the lack of updates but turns out it's not. I'm so disappointed! I would be more than happy to buy this series. It's a shame that the covers are so simple since I think that would put some people off Golden Days; the actual art inside of the manga is very easy on the eyes.

This manga has its disjointed moments, but overall the pace and plot are well put together.
The story is about a grandson who travels through time to help his grandfather's friends when he couldn't.
It's a lovely read, with lovely characters, and although it has many common elements the story feels original. Recommended.

I've read this for a long, long time, but I never can shake it out of my heart. It's always one of my fav shounen-ai manga ever, regarding that I've read so many BL so far I've lost count.
I love the art, the theme, the author's way of storytelling...Maybe it's bias if I say that I love everything about this manga. Oh, I hate the ending though.
After a long time fighting finally this piece got licensed in my country, and I couldn't resist buying 2 sets of them - One to read, and one to cherish forever.

this was the first shounen-ai manga that i read, and it was a great one to start with. The plot is generic, but its nicely executed, all the characters are pretty believable (i like the protagonist too, he was realistic and not the typical hero). This is not a happy manga though, i felt really bad for all of the characters, and it was heart breaking when

Mitsuya realizes what going to happen in the future, with the great kanto earthquake and WWII about to hit japan.
Overall, its a emotional, realistic (as much as it can be), and i recommend it.

Now that i've read more BL, i hope there will be more shounen-ai scenes as the romance progresses

I remember read this manga 3 years ago, in my dormitory room and my roommate got worries when i suddenly crying so hard. I hardly read all this series, i'm just read the final book and feel so sad. And then 3 years later, i mean today... my Golden Days series arrive, i bought it 3 days ago in internet. I read it... and crying again. I wonder why i'm not read all the book back then?

The most great story for shonen ai... the most beautiful relationship. The awesome plot story. And it make me enthusiasm to become a great mangaka. Someday. smile
Must read.
