Disappointed on nanami’s underuse development

I won’t lie I LOVE this series both the anime and manga. But the ending was disappointing, nanami went thru all of that trouble learning what a Goddess is supposed to be like, almost everyone doubted her. She literally dropped everything at the end, we never got to see nanami as a real real Goddess, just imagine her being powerful with tomoe a powerful demon.
Besides that, I also feel bad for Mizuki, he went from being alone at the start of the series to being alone again..

- this was one of the mangas i used to read like religiously. mind you, i started reading this b4 the translation was even near done. i think i've reread it maybe 3 times by now and it's been a hot sec and since i've got some time, i'm going to restart.
- i'll update if there's anything deviating from what i remember but gonna try to view this fresh + clean. will add more to the review later on
- one neg note ill make is that the mangaka really loved fillers lol it finished at more than 140 and could've been reduced to 60 solid if the mangaka tried less hard to make that bag. honestly on rereads i used to cut to near ch 100 and start from there cuz the other stuff was just fluff
- tomoe kind of instilled a perpetual long lasting adoration for youkai romance mangas in me. i love long haired male protags so bad cuz of him lmao. i also haven't read anything abt familiars in a looong while until just recently so im kind of excited for a reread
- i can't remember much if i liked nanami or not ? i think she was rlly nice and sweet and realistic but i really can't remember if she had character development or not and now im scared ill have outgrown this manga since its been a while and nanami was supposed to young

rn overall: 7/10 its not particularly good but points r for childhood nostalgia and entertainment

I loved this at first, it had a good start and I was into it for a good chuck of it. Around the time that the time travelling stuff ended I started to feel like I was being bombarded with filler chapters which made it harder to finish the series.

The male lead, Tomoe I started not liking toward to middle. When I saw that Nanami had such character growth, and he pretty much stayed an immature hot tempered jerk who only grow a bit nicer. Yeah, not much character growth from him. Also, although I don't mind the male lead being a controlling possessive type, I DON'T want that in a cutesy shoujo.

As for the main reason why I hated the ending.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I don't like the idea of someone giving everything up for some "love". Nanami was working so hard to work on improving her powers and helping out others with that, and made friends along the way. And for her to give all that up just to be with Tomoe?
I couldn't wrap my head around why she needed to return to being just human. She was a "human kami", why did she need to give that up just because Tomoe was turning human?
They return to the shrine? To do what? Live there? Help out again? What was the point of them leaving if they were going to return in 10 years?

Nanami went from doing everything on her own and trying to her hardest to do the things she couldn't to 'Oh, let Tomoe do it.'
I forgot to mention that earlier about Tomoe. He kept saying she couldn't do anything, and would always try to handle it himself. You're worried about money, I got it covered. "I'll take care of it" not we'll do it together. (Yeah I know she got a job in the daycare) but to have someone tells you "You can't do anything" "tell me where you're going before you go" "tell me what you're going to do before you do it."

Kamisama Hajimemashite first caught my attantion as a anime, though soon after I finished watching I started reading the manga from the beginning. It's still amazes me that from the very first volume it has hints of the plot points and twists that are revealed long after that.

I like all the characters and I feel that in comparison to some other mangas, they don't have a tendency to fall under one stereotype or behave just one type of way thoughtout the whole story. They develop and change over time.

The story for me is great and I don't feel like it's dragged out as much as some mention here. I think that most of the problems that arise, stem from the one overarching the whole storyline and therefore they are solved one after another. I didn't feel like they pop out of nowhere. I prefer a little bit longer manga that have clear solution rather than hazy ending, so I'm glad the author chose to write it in this way.

For me Kamisama Hajimemashita is the best romance manga I've ever read, with interesting story and likable characters. It's maybe not for everyone, but I prolly re-read it forever.

I love it! I loved how the characters develop. I love Mizuki so much, he is so cute. I love Mikage, I love how Kirihito evolved and changed. The ending made me cry.. really. How come i felt that the ending was rushed though.. I was hoping I could read more.

Glorifying dependence

I liked it. I can't help being disappointed by the direction taken though - I wanted Nanami to develop her abilities/judgement and become stronger as a god, but she acts recklessly throughout the story and is continually saved by Tomoe. By the end, it becomes clear that the theme of this story is embracing (if not glorifying) human frailty, interpersonal relationships and dependence. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that, it's just not my cup of tea.

That being said, the fact that I'm even thinking about themes in a shoujo manga is an indication of quality for me. I also like how familial relationships and friendships play an integral role, whereas in some other mangas with a strong interpersonal relationship theme, the focus is entirely or almost entirely on romance. Nice art and great funny bits.

Ultimately a good read, but I probably enjoyed it most at the beginning when I had more hope for where the story and Nanami's personality were headed.

And I'm not disappointed. I finished it in three days it was such a pleasure to read it. I felt warm reading it and that rarely happens when i read a manga. I find it easy to like the characters here. The main character is strong too and can do things her own way and isn't shy to go and tell her love interest he's wrong. Which is refreshing. I love the trust between the two main ones. Towards the end they were about to make it :/ but since that got fixed in the same chapter I'm gonna pretend it never happened.

I dont wanna spoil it but I do believe it's a manga worth reading. I'm surprised I got so attached to it to the point of crying omg this isn't like me. But i highly recommend it it's so warming to read.

I do not regret reading it and would read it over and over again! smile

Solid, complete series

I would say that Kamisama Hajimemashita is half filler and half amazing.

In the first 12 or so volumes of the manga, there is very little development to the story. An arc is presented based on some new side characters, and once the arc is resolved, those side characters have very little to do with the story. It reads as an episodic, upbeat manga that you would want to read every so often to feel good and happy, but not something that you're dying to read for its gripping story ... like how you would feel after reading a chapter of Natsume Yuujinchou or Gakuen Babysitters.

The latter half of the manga contains the main story of the series, and it's very good. The manga takes a much more serious approach to events and consequences to various things are far more severe. This leads up to a very satisfying conclusion. The mangaka did a great job foreshadowing the story and tying up loose ends. The ending was complete, and I was happy with the entirety of the series. I didn't expect something this good or serious from what was previously a collection of bubbly, happy short stories.

All in all, the manga was incredibly enjoyable. People who are looking for a solid, progressive storyline may be disappointed or bored with the fire half of the manga, but I think any shoujo reader will enjoy the second half of this manga. People who want some pep in their life will probably enjoy the entirety of the series.

Got tired of all these ultra-powerful gods and spirits falling in love with this "just a normal highschool girl XD!!!" protagonist.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Dropped this manga when her love interest's emotional baggage (his first love) was retconned so it was actually her all along through some time travel shenanigans. So now she has 3 guys totally smitten with absolutely no hint of unrequited love for her whatsoever. Everybody loves her and her alone.
