Why do people like this?

I agree with jellyunicorn123, I didn't like the series much. It dragged on needlessly at many points and nothing ever seemed interesting enough to make you wanna continue. Regardless I finished the series and as expected I was disappointed having heard so many good things about it. The humor was especially lame, the story was linear and extremely cliche. If I had to describe this manga in 1 word it would simply be "Corny".

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind a cliche story, if executed well, but this isn't the case.

I found this serie to be VERY draggy, so much i was pulling on my hair hoping something more important would happen. I waited and waited for better plot, but nope , didn't happen. The drawing was just OK, nothing special. I read up to volumn 18 or so, and just couldn't continue, maybe down the road i will finish it . But it's unbearable boring. I had really high expectation for this, but it was dissappointing. I wish it was better written and more entertainning.

When both characters were introduced, I was immediately hooked. I could just not stop reading this series, from beginning to end there was not a boring moment for me. I truly consider this story to be a masterpiece and should definitely not be missed!

Not bad shoujo

This series began in a light-hearted manner, but became darker and more dramatic as time went on. Each character is well-rounded and has their own quirks. I enjoyed it a lot, but I wish the plot had been a little more coherent -- after a few volumes it simply became an endless angsty love drama.

Truly magnificent. I really enjoyed reading this manga. It made me feel like I grew up with the characters, like time actually did pass by.

Possibly one of the most interesting mangas that I would consider. Side characters aren't just complimentary to the main characters but also individuals in their own respect.

High school would be very interesting once more, even I who had detested my high school years now reminisce it all over again with a more broader perspective and had come to appreciate the things that occured, similar to how the lead male character, Soichiro, had accepted what he had went through.

Hilarious, serious and over and over again.

Totally not a waste of time ^_^

Way to go, Tsuda Masami!!

A gem. Don't miss it

As it has been eloquently written in previous comment, it's a long story, but the characters and the plot (especially the arcs not covered by the anime) are really gripping, moving, and addictive. The art improves greatly also. The first volumes sometimes were a bit confusing and the scenes felt a bit crammed, but then the drawings get more and more clear
Back to the characters: they evolve a lot, and even the side characters are graced with some intersting facets and stories.
****semi-vague spoilers ahead****
You have the touching story of Tsubasa and Kazuma, and you see more of Tsubaki and Tonami, and Maho, and Rika, and Asaba ^^.
The 'Arima's arc' is really dark compared to the firts half of the series and to the anime (eh, the anime stopped just when things were getting juicy >.< ), and it really pulls the reader in: you'll find about his and his family's past, and ooh, boy, wait to see and know about a certain character... *squeals* .
But don't be afraid of Arima's descent into his personal and family's hell, oh gentle reader. The mangaka does an excellent job of showing both the darkness and the light. Which one prevails? Read - or even better, buy the volumes *pats her own hard copies* - and see it for yourself ;).

Kareshi Kanojo no Jijo (Kare Kano)

Yes! The story is so deep and often so funny and sweet! Miyazawa has a queer character but she and Arima are so lovable! The art at the beginning is more shojo-like, but in the end you see such a great change! The atmosphere in that manga is very refreshing and silent like a beautiful song. It's a recommend for all shojo-manga fans. The mangaka seems to be very cultured and nice, like her manga. I'm happy to have that great manga.
