people say it is like one piece, only the art is similar, and some characters, but that's common for many mangas. And besides, one piece is better, in my opinion, some might think otherwise and have the right to think so.
Well getting to the manga itself, good art, good characters, all the characters are a bit too alike though and the story is quite well developed, although it is a bit repeats itself a bit too much. And almost all fights end the same way. Still a good manga though.

well, their artwork is similar because of this quote from the author's page.
"His artwork and Eiichiro Oda's are greatly similar, but that is due to both of them being influenced largely by Akira Toriyama's work growing up."
this is in response to the comments below..
this is an okay manga... i'm not a big fan of shounen, but i stopped reading in the beginning where that one chick was obsessed with that one guy whom all the girls thought was hot, because the character was obviously ewww...i might get back to it one day.

i dont see how people can compare this and one piece. i mean, OP is completely different, the art styles are only similar in some aspects. FT doesn't have a whole bunch of people with really big torsos and really small limbs.

This manga is pretty tight.
And since the first chapter i have thought the artwork looks 100% like one piece, even the little vein bulges. Maybe they artists had the same teacher or something weird like that.
The only thing other than that though that is totally One Piece is how Natsu eats flames (food to him) to get his energy, just like Luffy has his MEEEEAAAATTTT lolz.
A really great manga though, the characters are well thought out, the plot is original and the abilities that new people can have always keep you guessing. I'm looking forward to upcoming chapters and would recommend this to anyone who likes action, adventure and comedy

i lolololoooove this series. i've been addicted and can't find a way to stop. i know theres alot of people saying this anime is similar to One Piece, and also alot of people defending saying it isn't. i however think it is. it has alot of similarities BUT every anime is similar somehow.
its definitely a must-read, i never get so excited and on the edge of my seat when reading something. its quite pathetic of me to tell you the truth haha. action pack and comedy through out the entire manga, i was kind of shock to see such a big event happen so soon into the manga (of course i can't spoil so you'll have to read for yourself!).
i do have a few dislikes. for one, its stated how Natsu isn't even the top 5? strongest member of Fairy Tail. and hes always troubling with Gray. it kind of makes it seem like they are rivals. but comparing strengths... it looks like Natsu would whoop the hell out of Grays booty. Gray is an awesome character, i just think they should make him more stronger power wise.

From my point of view, there are way too many characters in this manga. The more characters, the less paneltime, the less place for making each character unique. Not to talk about the hardness of making about 30 characters unique, in personality and magical ability. This was still ok, when Natsu and Lucy went out on missions, but when the whole Fairy Tail guild is fighting, the fights tend to get boring, and won't enough turning points. That is not surprising, because we have for example 30 characters and 50 pages for the fighting scenes, now divide them onto the pages, and you get really boring scenes, where each drop half dead in about 1.2 pages. The crying scenes weren't to my liking either. Normally, when there would be scenes about friendship/nakama/comradeship etc. they'd tend to get to me, but not with scenes of this manga. Maybe because the characters seem to start crying arbitrarily. The Luxus arc is boring as hell.
The manga is a decent enough read, but I honestly prefer Rave over Fairy Tail. I do have to agree with kiron216 about the word Nakama. I'm sick and tired of reading it. I wish people would translate it out to be friend, comrade, buddy, or something. The word nakama ranks up there with the japanese word for protect on the list of top 10 words I loathe.

I haven't read One Piece, so I don't really get all the alleged parallels with Fairy Tail. However, I will say that, judging solely by the summaries of both series, they really don't seem similar to me. The premise of Fairy Tail was much more attractive to me than that of One Piece (obviously, as I haven't--and probably won't--read One Piece...the pirate plot just seems ridiculously uninteresting to me).
Also, I'm not a huge fan of shounen manga; in general, I read shoujo (mostly because I'm a bit of hopeless romantic sometimes). So, it's rare that a shounen manga holds my interest (notable exceptions being InuYasha, Bleach, Code: Breaker, and Fairy Tail) and Fairy Tail manages it.

Come on ppl... I also thought it was like one piece before I started reading but it has nothing to do with it and... Lucy = girl in crew? Whats with Erza, Lluvia, Kana, Mira, and the others? Are they all transsexuals? o.O Natsu likes to eat meat like crazy? Where did u see that, cuz all Ive seen Natsu eating is fire o.o Maybe some of u might think abt it being a One Piece wannabe cuz it also comes up with some moral lessons but that ends there
Hiro Mashima's "Fairy Tail" is so far the best fantasy manga I have ever read so far, and even then, his previous work, "Rave Master", was also another good fantasy manga as well.
The plot is very good, the actions are great and it has some unique characters it has so far, each of them very complex and having their own personalities to boot.
Whether it will be longer than Rave Master or not is up to him, but it seems that Mashima-san has put so much effort into this one, and I really hope it stays around much longer.
