Tohru Honda, an orphaned high-school girl, is taken in by the wealthy Shigure Sohma when he realizes she has nowhere else to go. However, the Sohma family shares a secret, and it isn't long before Tohru discovers that there's a reason why her classmates, Yuki and Kyo Sohma, never let girls get near them, and never talk about their lives before they lived with Shigure. And before she knows it, Tohru has become so tangled up in the lives of each member of the Sohma family that she couldn't leave even if she wanted to.

As she learns more and more about the truth of the Sohma family and the nature of their secrets, she desperately searches for a way that she can save them. But what can one girl do, especially when it seems that she may have been part of someone's plan all along . . .

Fruits Basket received the 2001 Kodansha Manga Award in the shoujo manga category and the "Best Manga" award at the 2007 American Anime Awards.

this was just so freaking good!! at first i only watched the anime and i thought it was good but the manga goes so much further. It was soooooooooo good!! i was like wow. hehe but seriously i mean sure it pretty light hearted and kinda boring at first but when you get passed about volume i dunno 10 or 11! WHOLE THING its crazy and you really get into it. I really like this manga. I would be lying if i said that i never cried while reading it. And i love how the story talks about everyone and not just focuses on the main charicter and there problems. I have to say this is one heck of a manga i i really liked it. People should really read it, well and they do. hehehe yup yup smile

I picked this up because I felt that I couldn't really call myself a manga addict until I had read Furuba. I got as far as the fourth volume and was sadly dissopointed. Maybe I'm just too old for this, I don't know. Is it just me or is Tohru not the most personality less annoying character you could possible imagine?! (sorry, couldn't control myself) If you take her out of the picture the story is...average. I give it a four for the adorable animals, (I love the rabbit! *steals rabbit and puts it in a better manga*) and because the whole zodiac transformation idea is such a good one. (*sigh* such a waste. I bet there's some good fanfiction out for this though.)

definitely one of the top manga for character development.
the main character might seem just a simple cute air-head at the beginning but as her past is introduced, you can see that she's quite a character.

a good read recommendation for anyone.

I love this series very much. I love the art, I love the plot, I love the drama, I love the romance, I love the charakter development. This is definetly one of the best mangas ever and every manga fan should at least try reading it. And what makes it seems so awesome to me, is that it's so funny and so tragic at the same time. Every single charakter seems to be so much human.
I'd give it 11 XD

It started like other typical shoujo manga ~~> then developed into an amusing & distinguished one ~~> then kinda dragged & went downhill but still remained good ~~> ended beautifully. Well, I like this series after all. ^^ It's really interesting to compare the current volumes with the old ones to see the difference in the art. =P

it's slow... it's touching... it's scary... it's funny... it's awesome!!!

Fruits Basket rocks!!! the plot, the character developement and everything are just perfect... if you've read till (almost) the end, you would have noticed that the character drawings have changed slightly and i'm proud of what Natsuki-sensei did as it shows that they are actually maturing and growing...

this should be one of the manga that's on the Top 10 Must Read Manga list!!!

One of the best shoujo which I read. A great and complicated history between Tohru and Soma's Family. Indeed, the relationship : Tohru/Kyo is very beautiful and interesting.
Unfortuntally it will be soon finished.
