Deathnote is an unique aproach to the Shounen genre, is so deep! Seriously i would call it Seinen not Shounen, yet is published in Shonen Jump (i can't believe that yet) and lack graffic violence or sex to be a Seinen. The plot is really well constructed, and is never racking. In one chapter the table can turn about 10 times. The first page Raito is dominating the world, the other one L makes a serious comeback and leave our main character at the border os abyss.
This brain war between these two makes me remember Dr Moriarty vs Sherlock Holmes (hey L is from England!), yet the main character is the "bad guy". And this is another great point in Deathnote, we are accostumed to see in all mangas that the Good always overcome the Evil, and the Main Character is the ultimate badass....Ejem... The Main Character in Deathnote is to say the least a twisted good guy, a megalomanic building his own world. But everybody wants Raito to win it all.
Deathnote is on the same level than classics such as Rurouni Kenshin, Berserk, Monster, etc, etc. Is a new type of suspense, an original concept. I miss L a lot, M and N doesn't have the level to beat Kira unless they join forces, even so they put pressure on Raito, and we all know that he is the checkmate king. The more pressure is put on his shoulders the more his genious will come up with the ultimate move.
Rena...you are CRAZY. M better than L? Hell no! It's just that the kid start the game with a lot more information than L. In Deathnote information is all, and the notebook is the ultimate double edged weapon, like a friend said, this book is only less powerfull than the Infinite Gauntlet.
baK4rang3rX8 men, you got some serious issues, if you find thisn boring then you haven't reach the required good taste to love this manga, maybe you would like more Bleach (great action character driven, yet is going totally down in the plot deparment) Of Course Deathnote will get a little bit repetitive form time to time, like someone said, this is a Mouse and Cat fight (who is the mouse and who is the cat?)

My Type of Manga and it is Very Very well done.
as i see it the first like 15-20 chapters was almost great ...
then it just get repetative and a bit boring
and a bit later on in the manga it fails
atleast for me...but i still read it hoping(not gonna happen) for it 2 b g00d again

Twistedly Genius :)
an amazing manga, you can't take your eyes of it until you finish reading everything you've downloaded (and then you start crying because you don't have more to read haha). It's like a modern version of the cat and mouse chase, featuring Raito owner of the Deathnote (officially named "Light" :S) and "L" who is a misterious teenager detective, these are two of the most clever characters I've seen in any manga. In any case this series, is a "must read", from the same artist of Hikaru no Go, it promises to be equally (or more) good up until the end.Shinigami may not be a unique manga topic, but the way this developed into a type of detective-story with the "bad" guy being the main character was pretty interesting. L vs Raito was very well thought out and executed. The characters go through some development through the manga, though this mostly applies to secondary characters. Raito and L are too busy fighting each other to develop much ^_^.

The plot intriguing is not as it seem....we can read this manga ad might drawn into endless possibilities of conclusions..yet sometime it is waaaay more unexplained than the X-Files series..the author really make his touch unique with this Death Note..i am a fan of this series and many from my country start to read & liking it..
Quite worthwhile to read though.
