One of my favorites

I started this series because I was looking for full color/fantasy, and it has become one of my favorites. The plot is interesting, unexplained things are explained later, and the characters are engaging with interesting pasts that are later revealed. It also doesn't fall into the trope of giving the magicians levels, and while they do have ranks, it is not a main focus of the plot and doesn't use game elements(that I noticed).

Keeps getting better

So I started reading this years ago. I think from pretty much the beginning. And at first it's this quite simple story, easy to follow, likable characters, cool action. I really didn't know what about it I liked so much as a lot of things were left unexplained and well many things were just plain confusing.

There are a lot of works where unexplained things are left unexplained, where with time you only get more questions and no answers. Well I was sure this would be one of those but somehow it's so enjoyable to read that I didn't care. And then as time went on I'm being proved wrong, a very pleasant surprise. Things are being explained and nothing happens quite randomly, after rereading I found that pretty much all twists and plot lines were foreshadowed. So keep your eyes open and enjoy this work! It must be one of my favorites by now. But yes, do keep your eyes open and use your brain as many things aren't said out and you have to figure them out on your own, yet even if you don't it's an enjoyable read so don't be discouraged!

One of my all time favs!
The main character is so f*cking awesome, the story is amazing, the humor is great, the supporting charas are adorable (especially Dio, omg Dio)...
Définitely recommended, can't wait to read future chapters!

This story is slow paced because it's meant to be. Period. (As most webcomics are). If you're not into that, then you might want to look elsewhere...which would mean you would miss out on this great manhwa. The main character, Rood, is refreshing in that he is strong and smart (and cute) and yet he's kind and innocent. He's hot-headed at times, but in a cool, funny way (like pushing someone off a balcony lol) and not in an annoying, cliche shounen way. The other characters all have personalities of their own, and I honestly don't dislike a single one (rare for me). There is a mystery element to this story as well, which I love. (Many of the questions have been answered in recent chapters, though there are still some left). For those saying it's light hearted haven't read the recent chapters: my heart actually hurt reading Rood and Kiel's past.
I should also mention how well written this is: the characters come alive, the plot is engaging a great combination of mystery, drama, comedy and action. It definately doesn't feel like a stereotypical shounen story, and for that I'm grateful to have picked this up.

Sloooooooow

Black Haze contains awesome moments. The central mystery around the main char is suitably epic. Trouble is, the "famous magic school" arc mentioned in the story description lasts for, what, 100+ chapters? And it feels like, if not filler, then at least a relatively unimportant diversion from this central mystery.

Put differently, this could have been an amazing 30 chapter manhwa. Instead, it's a 130+ chapter manhwa with occasional moments of brilliance, which is brought down to mediocrity due to its slooooooow pace.

Hilarious, Endearing, and Full of Heart

This is the kind of story you really want to read when you're feeling down. It's charmingly funny with a generally easy pace and characters you can't help but find endearing (even the antagonists). And while it never takes itself too seriously, it definitely goes to some dark places and has its fair share of character-driven drama -- and there are loads of characters, all of which are visually distinct and sufficiently complex according to their role in the story. As I mentioned before, Black Haze's best assets are its very likeable characters and just how ridiculously funny it can be without pushing into the needlessly absurd or vulgar. It's a laugh-out-loud read with plenty of "d'aww" moments sprinkled throughout and just enough intrigue and mystery to keep you coming back each week.

Black Haze excels at everything it sets out to accomplish and makes no pretenses of being the high-action type story it seems to enjoy parodying, and for that, I'm giving it a nine, which I'll bump up to a ten if it continues to impress me and ends just as neatly as I expect it will.

The webcominc started really interesting but you can feel how childish it is after a while have read over 100 chapters and cant stand it, may give it a try after is finish maybe it will be better later.
If you like a more young oriented manga, etc you will like this.

Its like someone's just walked into my head, read all the things I've wanted to see in a shounen manga, then went write this webtoon. Magical.

I read all 102 chapters in one go. I think I am ready to join the hopeless Black Haze maniac now wink

This webtoon receives a lot of hate...don't ask me why because I don't really understand.

I mean this manhwa is awesome.
- I find the plot quite interesting (it's a bit slow-paced but hey the slower the pace of the action is, the longer the manhwa will be)
- the MC is cool. I love him
- the fight scenes are good. Actually I almost felt like watching anime while reading them
- plenty of funny scenes.

Ah, you might find the drawing a bit weird at first, but once you get used to it, you might actually start to love it (I did).

Overall this is a good read. I read all the 92 chapters (so far) in just 1 day. (I'm hopeless, I know)

I almost quit reading it once I saw the art the first few pages, but the story had magic. Once magic is in the mix I become entangled.

I did not regret my decision as soon the series progressed. It was my type of pace. Slow almost as if to keep enticing the reader again and again. Skip Beat pace, pleasantly anticipating.

As far as the characters, they hold their own. Rood and Dio are the cutest characters to witness. I assure myself of this every time my heart skips a beat.

I feel as though I'm 10 again, and reading through a manga that makes really easy sense. It being easy is something I don't take for granted. Especially if it is spiced up with humor.

I do enjoy hard to read things, but manga's like this are what made me start reading manga. I appreciate it. Therefore, 8 on arbitrary scale of greatness.
