Chapter 3 Took A Turn For The Worse

As it was still early on, I didn't stop reading after the first two chapters, however,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
a manga with a villain protagonist with seemingly no real motive behind his cruel actions was definitely something that I could not take part in reading. Chapter 3 was quite enjoyable though as it built upon the main protagonist's character, if only a little, and gave him some sort of motive and a sense of being human. However, at the end of the chapter this was revealed to only be an illusion he had implanted into the hero character's mind to gain her trust. This story had so much potential. Somehow the author thought it was a good idea to make the main protagonist a senseless evil person with no actual reason for any of his actions. The most interesting character by far was the female hero that was introduced but seeing her being completely controlled and fooled by the main character really turned me away from this series completely. I can't imagine it getting better as it goes along and I can't bring myself to read anymore. I'm pretty much fine with reading a story that has a villain protagonist, however, I still expect him/her to actually have good character development. This story just throws you around and plays with your emotions without having any moral purpose or even any backbone at all. Edit: After reading three more chapters (and part of chapter 7), while the manga has its entertaining moments, the fact remains that the main protagonist has no real motives for causing such pain and trampling upon others . . . perhaps his true character will be revealed as the story moves along, however, the set up is already very lackluster and not enough to keep me interested.

This is a power fantasy.

It's become a sort of trend in japanese light novels to focus on the villain and make him the protagonist of the story. In most of this stories the villain has been portrayed as extremely powerful and/or great capability for growth. This series is in the first cathegory.
Why this is getting a 1? Because it's not a good read due to:
1) We don't really know what the hell is wrong with the protagonist. He was 'betrayed' and that apparently fueled his hatred to the point he researched for decades till he got this power. And it will never be shown. He's just a blank slate. Aur is just a mould made for the reader to fullfill his power fantasies. We know nothing of his past and his personality is that of a hipocryte (he says humans are evil but he's the worst of the bunch, going as far as committing genocide).
2) There's a lot of contrievance. Aur has a flaw: he's weak in close combat... only that that will never happen so it's like saying he has no flaws. A weakness is something that comes into play, an achilles heel that will weaken you and maybe fail you. This won't happen. He has a lot of uberpowerful shields. His fortress is in a super mega depot of mana (how convinient that it powers him, isn't it?)
3) Morality here is horrible. Don't read this if you like doing good things. The main character has raped, brainwashed and tortured people on-screen.
4) This is a power fantasy. I've said it before but this is a power fantasy: all the characters are weaker than the MC he wins all his battles with no effort and he's always controlling. The morality of the story is his and thus we have to accept and praise all his vile acts. Everyone falls for him and he's awesome and the most intelligent man on the universe.
5) No tension whatsoever. Linked to the above. The Main character will curbstomp everyone and thus there's no reason to keep reading. You could well over read the first and last chapters and you'd miss nothing interesting as there will be no development for the characters once they reach the breaking point (read: they'll be introduced, raped and brainwashed, then we will be done with them).

If you like good main characters don't read this

Like the others have said, the main character is an asshole. As much as I like "fresh" stories I don't like reading about shitty people doing shitty things to honest and good people. It just rubs me up the wrong way.

I'm not saying this from a holier than thou perspective, I just cannot enjoy a series about characters whose deaths I'd be cheering about in a regular manga.

The main character of this series rapes people on a regular basis, manipulates everyone, slaughters innocent people and tries to make it out like he's being reasonable, etc. I'm pretty desensitised to a lot of dark things *as long as justice is served in the end*. There's no justice here and it makes for unpleasant reading if you're the kind of person who pretty much needs the scales to be balanced to enjoy a story. I can't stand this for the same reason I can't stand Overlord: people (good and bad) do not get the fates they deserve, and I'm not twisted enough to be able to put myself in the villains' shoes and just enjoy their victories and the things they're doing.

In the case of Overlord, the world and secondary characters are so interesting that you want to keep reading even though the good guys keep dying, but here there's none of that. At best I'd say it's interesting to see how the MC plays people.

Long story short, if you'd like to read about a more charming sorcerer version of Joffrey from Game of Thrones then this is for you. If, like me, you read to see bad guys punished and innocent people get some measure of happiness or peace then you will gradually come to despise this series and series like it as much as I do.

Only the art is worth it

Maybe I am not the one who should judge but still... This series is simply uninspired. The main points are sex, villain MC and wish-fulfillment. Aside from these there is nothing else - there is no romance, there is no intrigue, there are no note-worthy characters or story development. Yes, the art is good, but it isn`t enough to save this series from shame. Would have been better to go completely hentai. At least then no one would expect anything out of it and the sex, the villain MC and wish-fulfillment crap together with the art would have been enough to pull through.

How to demonstrate your hatred for humans : Transform yourself into a stereotypical good looking middle aged human and enslave humans rather than simply killing them all.

What else is there to say? Its got elves and dwarves. It has a "bad guy" main character. There are a few pages of sex, but if thats what draws you in you might as well just go read a hentai.

The MC is badass and the art is great too. He finally became the guy he is after countless years of research and experiments! Inspiring tale! The series continues to surprise me and I can't wait to read more of this manga.

So basically sex is the center of the story...
I'm not against borderline H mangas, but dunno how to say it, this one doesn't give me any feeling. While reading the plot I was hoping for something like a mix between shina dark and my balls... but no it's not funny and doesn't have any well develloped story (you'll have this unpleasant feeling like the author doesn't care about logic, everything happen because the story need it). Just a medieval soft hentai.
Probably a lot better in novel format (but that's the problem with novels lately, too much sex and "bad-type" main characters)

In the same genre, Bastard was way better...

Heres some tips to becoming a Fine demon lord courtesy of this manga of course. First Research for many years, find a rare power item that give you amazing powers, and last but certainly not least, make sure your "Stroke game" is Top Notch! lol. This manga is really intersing so far. First story wise i always like to see a change of pace like with anti villian leads or villian leads like in this case so it is a bit refreshing. Also the art is pretty good and i am interested in were this is going. Now for the other part lol. I mean i find it funny and i dont have an issue with
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the MC pretty much sleeping with almost every chick he subjugates
; cause i am tired of the harems that always goes nowhere or end up just saying F U to all the others for one lame one; so its great to see one where the lead does take advantage of it. I mean thats the point of a real Harem in my opinion. So yea this reminds me a lot of (Re:monster) which i love so i hope this keeps going, i just love the " do what ever the hell i wanna do" MCs in both; but i do want to see more story in it too. Also i of course know a bunch of people will hate on this for the Sex so yea if you dont like this just move on.

An incredibly bad guy stuck in an incredibly bad series...
by Lost Rabbit

Rating: 5.0  / 10.0
I'm really liking this series, but only to a certain extent. It's another one of those "MC reborn/brought into a fantasy world to become powerful and gather his own harem over time wish-fulfillment" kind-of-stories, and honestly, I've gotten pretty tired of seeing so many of them shat out over the past two years. Luckily, this series has our MC take on the role of the OP villain rather than that of the rising hero, and oh-boy does it work well in this one. To be exact, whenever the MC acts like a terrible person, well, it makes sense that he of all people would be like that. He's incredibly manipulative to both his foes and his friends, and it really does fit his character perfectly. So if you're the kind of person that doesn't want to see a protagonist manipulate practically everyone around him in attempts for gaining power, then this is proooobably not gonna be a fun read for ya...

For a little more background, what we have here is basically in between Re:Monster and Overlord: An MC that's working on amassing his own personal fighting force that will be unstoppable, all while being completely overpowered right from the get go. In this case, the MC gathers humans, demons, monsters, dark elves, dwarves, etc. etc. to occupy his ever-so-growing dungeon. For those that stand in his way, he'll either bring them to his side, or simply kill them immediately. At the rate things are going, it looks like it'll be a fun ride to tag along on.

However, as for why I'd consider this to be an "incredibly bad series," I've gotta say:
The art is kinda bad. Well, the character designs are pretty above decent, with the girls being cute and sexy and whatnot. The action as well is ok-ish, despite there not being much shown yet at only 6 chapters out right now... The big issues though are that the monsters aren't very impressive when aiming for variety; the backgrounds feel somewhat nonexistent, and yet they're pretty much building the very dungeon they live in from scratch (which would've been quite nice to have seen the development over time, but it's too late for that now...); and the "chibi" characters look pretty lame whenever they're shoehorned in for every damn joke the mangaka tries to throw in each chapter, which I'll admit is a heavy personal dislike toward the style choice that they decided to run with.

In comparison to the previously mentioned series, this one's definitely got more balls than Re:Monster could ever manage to muster. It's willing to show off humans being killed by our dark protagonist and lots of sex when possible, while RM's won't show the killings nor any sex at all. As for Overlord, the art in this series definitely doesn't feel as crisp and clean which is a shame to say the least.

Ending on the topic of sex, I worry that there'll be a stupid "quota" put in that'll end up taking away from the series as the story goes on further. So for just about every female character that becomes his ally, they'll probably end up wanting "The Hot Dickings" from him, shown at least once per chapter. Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate on sex and harems, but if this devolves into an all around mess like Ookii Onnanoko wa Suki Desu ka? became, guess I'll have to jump ship a second time...
