At first I was not really interested in this series, but since it's Kyuugo's work I started to pick it up. Once I read it I coundn't put it down anymore, until chapter 26, all the complicated relationships got nearly enlighten, my tear couldn't be held back anymore.
They're really living in the acid town, their feet get chained down, their life are in shambles, both generations to boost the already grim fate,
I'm on my tiptoe now waiting for the new chapter as I'm with Sora wo daite oyasumi T_T

While the main character is conflicted over intimate relationships, at the same time we have a seme who seems like someone who wouldn't touch him at all without his consent. I think that the Hyoudou and Yuki are perfect for each other - Hyoudou's gentle character is just what Yuki needs.
At first I found it dragging, but all the angst worked for me. And so far, all the undertones are just delicious. XD I am so glad I found this manga!

I was a big fan of Kyuugou, which is what prompted me to pick this up.
I've read 13 chapters so far out of sheer curiosity. Acid town itself is immensely dull, overcomplicated and depressing if you're not already a fan hardboiled Yakuza-themed manga. I, like many of you expected this to be a little different from the usual, formulaic kind of BL story. And it was. So different it barely resembles BL. One of the characters is
Kyuugou must have concentrated every negative, destructive feeling they've ever had into this because it is one big rolling ball of disappointment.

One of the characters is
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
gay and in love with his best friend, typical of Kyuugou works
and the other Spoiler (mouse over to view)
has endured unspeakable sexual abuse at an early age
. Instead of developing the relationship between the two main characters, it's sidetracked after so much anticipation and hope. The longer romantic developments are put off and other aspects of the plot are explored the more the romance becomes a novelty. This is in sharp contrast to BL titles which are driven by the central romance, with the characters constantly going at it, which can get old. But in Acid Town, instead of the romantic relationship being the desired goal sometime during the length of the work, it is intercepted by unpleasant twists and turns. At every page there will be a minor detail introduced to deepen the dark, foreboding and bleak prospects of the story. Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The tormented main character continually assures us that he's not fit to be the protagonist of a shounen ai by displaying the mental and physical scars he's gotten from the abuse. Any romantic encounter involving him would be disturbing for us to see, considering how conflicted he is about romance. Maybe this was the intended effect but making homosexual acts seem repulsive by showing a child being sexually abused and then his traumatized older self not ready for any kind of romantic pursuit defeats the purpose of making this a BL. Why show the evils of BL in a book intended to be read by fans of BL? Was the point of the story to further torment the already unstable protagonist? This title would have been more appropriate without the homosexual overtones.
Kyuugou must have concentrated every negative, destructive feeling they've ever had into this because it is one big rolling ball of disappointment.

Its so rare to find a yaoi where:
1.Main guy is not raped by his love interest
2. Plot is centered in the hard life of the protagonist, not in the romance.
3. Bittersweet feeling at every single chapter.
Well I finally found one. Acid Town is amazing. I have so many feeling while reading it. A masterpiece, seriously. The mangaka´s other work Sora wo daite oyasumi is also a masterpiece. She is a GREAT mangaka. Finally a yaoi mangaka who actually cares about putting a decent detailed plot in her manga. God bless her!

There are people I know who like serious stories and read mainly seinen. Quite of a few these don't really like or feel like reading shounen ai (or yaoi) partly due to the "fluff" factor or their unease with homosexual content. This is the manga I recommend them (unless they are really homophobic that is).
The storyline of this manga is very much like those we see in seinen rather than the usual shoujouesque mainstream shounen ai. It is serious, it has thriller-like moments, it has action, and it definitely has drama and not "jealousy-misunderstanding-jealousy"-cycle-style drama common in shounen ai and shoujo.
The story is set in quite a dystopian setting, in a very realistic manner too, so if you like dystopias [like me], this definitely might be a good read for you. Shounen ai moments are [so far, I've read until chapter 17] not overtly done; they actually feel quite realistic and natural as well. Let me also warn you, this is so far a quite sad story and while there is a tiny bit of hope, I don't expect it to have a happy ending; definitely not a "happily-ever-after-for-everybody" ending.
So if you want to read a serious manga with a serious story, high-quality storytelling, intricate plot, and decent art, go ahead and read this.

People likes to compare Acid Town with Sora wo Daite Oyasumi because those two are the on-going series Kyuugo sensei is working on right now.
At first you might think that Acid Town is heavier and darker - street life, yakuza, rape, drugs, betrayal and the likes. It seems to have more action and emotional roller-coaster rather than the school-themed, slow-paced Sora wo Daite Oyasumi.
However when you keep reading both, you'll realize that Acid Town offer a lot of hopes and way outs. All the characters are struggling to live even in the worst circumstances - they fight in their respective ways - friends become enemies, enemies become friends, but all of them keep the will to survive. - Which makes me think that this isn't as depressing as it seems, compared to that other series by Kyuugo.

DP released the first chapter, I read it and I decided I should stop. I stopped reading the manga after chapter 1 mainly because I have this ominous feeling that this manga will be full of heartaches, betrayal ~the usual heavy stuff. I think I couldn't handle that especially if the manga is still ongoing. However because another story namely Sora o Daite Oyasumi caught my attention, I found out that both are works of Kyuugou-sensei. So here I am, reading this manga again. TT_TT it just gives you all these emotions.
As the other reviewers said, the main ingredient of this mangaka is indeed dark stuff, which i found highly admirable considering that only a FEW mangaka can use that element and are brave enough to show something akin to RL. These mangaka who uses psych in their manga are smart I just hope that she would make her stories all 'happily-ever-after'
If given a chance i would really love to meet this awesome mangaka.

It just made me sad and depressed for not reading chapter 18 and the rest. Though, I still consider myself patient on waiting for this series to be updated. One of the best shounen-ai/yaoi mangas I've ever read. Kyuugou-sensei's works really can catch up my interest 'cause they are unique on their own.

I was so into the story with this one. I really felt with the characters and what they had to go through. They're all well developed, the art is fantastic, and the story still has a lot of potential, I can't wait to read more of it!
One of the best manga's in the shounen ai/yaoi style EVER!
An absolute must for those who like depth and emotion in relationships, not just the sex stuff. One thing though, it's quite heavy, but you get that already if you look at the categories of this series. i thought it was great.
Oh, and I agree with Zhenis on the 'rape' issue. Finally a character who reacts like one should when faced with such situations. In other stories they always seem to just forget about it or even like it, it's just not believable like that.

I'm not a person who usually reads shonen-ai or yaoi, but this one in particular really made me stop and look. The art was absolutely beautiful and the drama and plot was fascinating. It's definitely a level higher than most yaoi and shoujo manga I've read, especially on the issue of love and rape. (If you haven't noticed most yaoi and smutty shoujo, the main character is, "no i dont want to have sex," and the person is, "oh yeah u do"). If its rape, its rape. I like the depth of the characters too. They are very human, and it breaks my heart to see what they have to go through. Excellent manga.
