Lightened my mood :)

The story may seem typical but sometimes thats one of the good points of a book. Whenever im in an angry / bad mood or feeling annoyed and i read one of Mitsuki Kako's works i just feel calm and light hearted again....(I'm also smiling sometimes without realising it, lol)
So if you're looking for a nice simple read that mostly displays happiness i recommend this to you.
The art is nice, the Female Lead looks quite cute (or adorable) and mature in a way, while the Male Lead looks quite handsome. One of my favourite artists.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The Male Lead's weakness is sooo funny! XD
...but then again...im scared of centipedes too....

Judge for youself

Ok... People, let me ask you: what do you think a shoujo is? Of course it's a typical, cliché romance story for young girls. And, well, that's what this manga is: a shoujo. Maybe you are just getting a little bit old for this type of story?
I believe a tag called "Un-shoujo" should be created for those awesome mangas that are shoujo but different...

Now, the review.
As stated on some of the other reviews, Ai Hime's plot is not going to make your eyes shine unless this is exactly the kind of story that you love. It goes like this: while trying to find something to do, Mao ends up near a cherry blossoming tree and sees a sleeping stranger there, he wakes up and well...it's love at first sight. However they soon find out that they're actually uncle and niece that are going to live together for a while, due to Mao's parents having to go on a business trip.
Well, since this plot doesn’t really win many points for originality (as many other mangas use the forbidden, hidden love concept as well), you may ask yourself what’s so special about it; nothing, really. But the simplicity of how it is shown to us readers and how it allows us to breeze through the pages without having to deal with too many conflicts grants it bonus points, in my opinion. Because sometimes I’m tired of opening a manga book and having a hundred problems thrown into my face, when all I want to read is the cozy moments. But, I also have to admit, the fact that their love story turned out so well accepted by family and so is kind of annoying, since Mao and Jin didn’t have to fight for anything.

Moving on to the characters. Nothing special in them, as well. But each of them get their own good points. You have Mao, the innocent 16/17 year old girl who’s used to being lonely and wishes for warmth, and Jin, the uncle that had been adopted into the family and is now taking care of her; those are the main characters and the story really focus the most on them. To speak frankly, I don’t see much of a conflict in their love since they’re not actually related by blood and the age isn’t really that far off (6-7 years I think?).
The rest of the cast is not very important. You have the beautiful one-san character as the current boss and former lover of Jin, who supports them and recognizes Mao as Jin’s special person because (and this is where I laugh) they slept together, and no, not the kind of sleep where people sweat and pant, sleep as in dreaming and snoring. Personally I believe she was just thrown to the noise to make Mao feel some jealousy. Then you have the perverted childhood friend of Jin who is there to also make Jin jealous, he was my favorite character because in the entire manga I thought he was the kindest. You have Mao’s childhood friend who has a crush on her, and Mao’s parents, who should have been the biggest problem, but actually easily accepted the relationship.

This is getting big. But I still have to speak about the art. I’ll be quick, I promise.
The art is not anything special. The faces are really well drawn from the front and everything, but the side-view makes you wonder if Mitsuki Kako-sensei was still at the beginning stage when she created this. And there are some pages where the art just makes me stare in horror. However, there are some moments where the expressions can still your breath with how endearing they are.

Well, this manga is nothing special. But it is sweet, cute and somewhat heartwarming so I’ll give it a 7.5. Sorry if it was too long or confusing but I hope I made my point. Oh! And sorry if any grammar doesn't make sense.

There is nothing creative or original in this manga. The plot is contrived and the characters aren't well developed. But if you're just looking for more shoujo fluff this will do in a pinch. I've underrated it, but only because it is so highly overrated.

I'm a girl, I also like romance-shoujo stuff, and yet, I find this series IRRITATED! This manga has such a high rate, and I feel like I have been fooled by it. It's way too cliched, unrealistic, both main protagonists annoy me. >.< I drop it after 2 chapters. Can't continue this. Give it a 2, because of the nice art, lol

I like drama in manga, but not all the time. I love this story for the affection and love that is so clear in the main couple, and the beautiful art that highlights it all.

Mitsuki Kako is one of my favourite shoujo mangakas - and I've never found one that comes close to her in the whole beautiful simple romance thing. This is a brilliant example of what she does so well.

So i've finished reading this! Well, there's nothing bad about this manga. It's very warm and the storyline goes very smoothly. There's a little bit of jealousy here and there but still ended up in a fuzzy situation. Overall, it's a nice read! I do like the art too!

Although there are some cliche on this manga, I still find it sweet and heart warming. I recommend this to those hardcore shoujo lover's. Even though the ending is typical for shoujo readers, it still my preferred ending for them. For the not over the top fluffiness and nice artwork I will give this manga an 8 score.

Overrated

This is the first time I'm fooled by the rating system in Baka-Update.

Normally, manga which has a rating as high as this one, 8.4, is sure to be good. But when I started reading, ok, this girl is speaking to herself, oh hey she meets a "cool" guy (or so he is called numerous times in the series) which is ohsotypicalinshoujo, and then he thinks she's cute, then they kiss, them BAM obstacle, she's so weak, he's so "cool" (again) and calmed (how predictable) and in control (ohmygodgetmeoutofhere), and everything that is so UNREALISTIC and TYPICAL... And at the end [SPOILER ALERT] they get married and lived happily ever after. Oh, did I mention he's only 7 years older than her and they hit it off right after she graduated from high school and he's her father's non-related-in-blood brother? *Rolling Eyes*

Even though I finished it myself but still, this manga is overrated OMIGOD! Why peopleconfused?? You 800 something people...

*Crying* I wasted 100mb because of this *Crying* Not worth it!
