MC is basically a bigoted self insert power trip for the author

There's not really anything new here. The writing is typical of this genre, meaning it's pretty much just shit tier. The only thing mildly redeeming about it is how honest the author is about the MC not being a hero or even anti-hero. Even the MC's tendency to just randomly do seemingly heroic things is explained as the protagonist just wanting a cheap feel good moment. The protagonist is literally just some scummy average guy with OP abilities and knowledge doing whatever he damned well pleases regardless of whether it's good or bad.

Early on, MC is offered a better deal to go live in the States and he's just like "nah, I'd rather just live in Korea because that's where my mom lives." At no point does he pretend he's actually loyal to the corporation he signed on with, Korea or the Korean government. He just wanted an excuse to live where he was, so he blames his mom. It's the kind of excuse you'd expect from a lazy pre-teen.

If you're curious about how the MC is a bigot, it's fairly obvious early on. The MC himself is even like "my past self was a complete classist dick hole" and mentions how his current self wasn't like that but then basically says "well, they're both me, so it's fine." In a round about way, the MC just plain admits to being extremely classist and that he's fine with it, saying the (physically) strong should lead the weak. However, that's not the only example. At one point, around chapter 115 or so, he straight up enslaves a team of American hunters and, of course, the token black guy says something about how he's never going to be anyone's slave, right before giving into the slave spell cast on him. I always find it ironic when a minority makes fun of another minority for being a minority. It's just so classy.

At some point, the MC casually just casts off being human and is just kind of like, oh well.

The MC also basically just becomes the stereotypical tyrant dictator of Earth, that his previous incarnation was of his previous world.

I'd say it's mildly interesting in a train wreck kind of way but it's too boring to even classify as that. It just feels like the power tripping musings of a bored 12 year old that wishes magic was real and that they could somehow monopolize that in an arms race.

To be frank all these isekai/reincarnation stories are starting to blend together with how similar they all are. Asexual lead character? Check. OP? Check. No character development? Check. I could go on for a while, too. I liked this one at the start, but now I'm tired of all the "I'm too cool to think about girls" MCs everywhere as if sex and relationships aren't pretty much a part of life everyone goes through. Character development has been traded for just making the MC get more and more OP. The MC has become so absurdly OP at this point he can just revive entire cities of people after they've died. Character interactions are non-existent beyond "MC UR SO STRONG PLS TRAIN ME. MC UR STRONG PLEASE HELP US."

Might seem like an interesting read when you're first starting and for a while into it, but if you stop and think about how barren the plot and characters are, you'll likely lose interest like I did.

[as of chapter 112]

“I am the Sorcerer King” tries to jungle so many balls and moves at such a pace that I suppose it is inevitable that some will be dropped by the wayside (the ability to close dungeons... hello?). But I can't really say it takes me out of the experience because I find the maximalism very entertaining, and it's pulled off well enough to not feel too "ass-pully". Obviously, some amount of suspension of disbelief is required for almost any fantasy/sci-fi story, and this one is no different. Yes, I could harp on about the protagonist's ability to effectively deux-ex machina any problem with knowledge from his previous life (like other reviewers), but to not recognise that this is an issue endemic to most stories of this type is silly. Obviously stories do not have to be entirely logical and autistically detailed in their technical analysis to be interesting.

Reviewers here also claim that the story became dull later, and I can do nothing but disagree. I think there has been a fantastic extrapolation on the ideas found earlier in the manhwa, making it far more original a story and considerably more entertaining. Higher tiers of dungeons appear to be morphing into self-contained fantasy stories, rather than just being a one sided slaughter that allows the reader to truly understand how OP the MC is (looking at you Solo Leveling...). The geopolitical implications of this huge power imbalance is also explored, and while the timescale this all is happening over is not elucidated, there is a profound sense that everything that the MC is involved in is drastically altering the situation on earth (and other planets/dimensions as well). The scope cannot be compared to something like Solo Leveling, which is distinctly pedestrian in it’s outlook, and considerably less imaginative in the concepts it explores. The larger entities, working behind the scenes, are already being revealed and expanded upon, which stands in stark contrast to Solo Leveling which has made very little progress in this regard despite having a similar amount of chapters out at this point.

In conclusion, “I am the Sorcerer King” is a whack-ass time: get a blender and add every known fantasy and sci-fi concept and trope and give them a right good evisceration to a gulpable consistency. Great fun.

Ehhh.. it’s ok

It’s pretty good except for the fact that it’s exactly the same as solo leveling in the beginning. Like legit, both of them are like, “oh no my moms dying now I have to work as a hunter and find one mysteriously rare cure that only hunters can get!” And also it feels kinda like a rip off of solo leveling in the beginning, like fr, the sorcerer king also got his OP abilities after a near death experience (like solo leveling).

But besides all that, I think this Manhwa is pretty stereotypical, OP MC, “I’m the best at everything!”-type Manhwa, which ISNT A BAD THING. It’s actually pretty enjoyable when you have nothing else to do. The art style is...ok.

TL;DR
Is pretty cliche and stereotypical but it’s alright when you have nothing else to do.

More of a casual read

May contain spoilers(?)

As other commenters have mentioned, it does have a similar feel to Solo Leveling, and imo, this reminds me of both Solo Leveling and The Gamer. However, I welcome plots like this since I like this genre.

This was better as a casual read for me, since the plot can be a bit slow imo. I also wouldn't say it does a great job of world building either; the setting is planet earth, but the logic of how powers work, what limitations there are to a hunter's ability, the structure of dungeons, etc. is a bit lacking. For the novel, I'm not sure if it's written better, but I've heard it's decently a nice read, so it might go into more detail about the setting - assuming you can read Korean.

We know the MC is reincarnated, and seems to be able to use magic beyond what the world's god is willing to provide, since he's pulling knowledge from his past life. So far, the manhwa seems to be 80% exploring the MC's past knowledge and bringing it (with innovation) into his new life, and 20% showing the world the power he's re-created from his past life to obtain independency/possible domination. Although we know why he's able to use such OP magic, it does a whole "1,2, skip a few" type of thing, where the MC mentions he wants to try re-creating xxxx power, and then suddenly he's already using it in the next battle without explaining how in the world it even works. Despite this, I wouldn't say the plot isn't there, since the MC does have an end motive, but it's just a bit unclear how he will get there.

On a more positive note, it can be entertaining if you don't think too much about things, and just want to see a person be OP and inspire others/making them worship him (it's a feels good manhwa if you see it this way). If you like this type of stuff, this is another series to throw into your read list to try out, especially if you're a sucker for SL/TG type stories (but with less heavy plot). If you aren't into slow paced plots, mark this as a casual read.

Interesting start but mediocre later

Modern world turns into a fantasy sci-fi mmorpg. A few chosen get awakening with abilities, magic, stats akin to a rpg and have to fight against monsters that start spawning into our world. Our protagonist was a normal human however an incident cause him to suddenly recover memories of his live as a powerful mage from another fantasy world thus he also awakens. Using knowledge from his previous life combined with the current rpg system and also modern technology, he becomes stronger and gets notice by special organizations.

At first, i was pretty drawn in by the world building and premise but the manhwa just fell apart soon after. Its dull, boring, lacks structure and is ridiculous.

The protagonist is probably one of the most uninteresting main characters i've seen. I'm not expecting the extreme spectrum of dark or hero. The protagonist as a character is even more boring than a normal average joe person from a slice of life theme. It is that bad. Even the side characters have more color to them despite rarely being in the limelight.

As usual for stories with this theme, our MC is quite overpowered. Not complaining, i welcome it. However the most distinct disappointment is the lack of structure and limitations to the encompassing power system as well as the plot. I dunno how to explain it, its like a friggin 8 year old Chuunibyou wrote this manwha. All common sense, restrictions is thrown out the window, anything he likes dug out from his realm of creativity is thrown into the story haphazardly. Fighting a sorcerer beast in one moment while the next we get a Kardashev Scale Type II civilization(google it if you don't know what it means) battleship next then we get sentient life creation. Needless to say its a disaster as a whole. Plot and storyline, writing is simply unprofessional and don't gel well together. The concepts are not grounded and lacks a basis. Author is just throwing in random ingredients into the blender hence my 8 year old Chuunibyou reference.

Really disappointed by this one. Only redeeming thing is the art style and drawing. I expected greater things from reading the first few chapters like an appealing storyline, mature writing, structured storyboard, colorful characters and a solid MC to anchor the plot but unfortunately, we get NONE of those. Don't recommend this manwha unless you're an 8 year old chuuni.

The manhwa started okay. Later on it turns into absolute sh*t with no meaning in reading it.

Read something else than wasting your time with this sh*t story.

Art, story, MC, and plot are all sub-par compared to Solo Levelling, if I'm being honest. Just couldn't get into it, especially because you feel like the MC is just dragging you along and only explaining 20% of anything.

Somewhat good

Somewhat good and generic shounen manhwa, it's a sort of mix between "Solo leveling" and "World Trigger" and in many senses plays the middle part between those two series, this one has quite a bit of action but also has some strategy and team-building while not going too deep into any direction, it manages to have lots of action while maintaining some coherence in setting and story, or put in another way, it cares less than Solo Leveling on looking cool and being badass but is not as deep in the explanations as World Trigger, it's a fair compromise. Same for the art and flow of battles, it cares less for being flashy and over the top cool and more about "clarity" (probably not the best word), the battles are simpler than Solo leveling but easier to follow and understand, which I prefer, and again not as deep as the encounters in World trigger.
Story-wise, it's too soon to say much of the story but I don't really expect much from it, the MC is reincarnated after being killed by a dragon, gets stronger, companies fight for him and so on, I'm guessing he'll find the dragon at some point too. The main story development will probably go along the lines of delving into the mysterious system and the god behind it.
In any case, the fights are not bad, the art is good and the characters so far are good enough, somewhat interesting without going overboard with cliches and characterization. So yeah, decent, somewhat good, does nothing particularly well nor bad. If you like shounen give it a try.
