Hard to take seriously...

This manga keeps testing the suspension of disbelief limits....

"But this isn't scifi!"

Apparently it doesn't have to be.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
The way she gets into the school is by becoming a teacher... not a student. That should normally be interesting, but here it's completely uncalled for. Quite frankly, the main character is so unsuitable to be a teacher that it's kind of annoying that the author wants to even bother trying to keep going with this crap. If she was half as intelligent as she is generically hardworking, it would maybe be possible, but quite frankly they just take the focus off the classroom for long periods of time to make you forget about it. The only thing that's keeping her in her teaching position is the random generic rich bisho that put her there in the first place. Whenever the author comes around to an evaluation (of Mugi's teaching abilities), she just magically passes it using some random mumbo jumbo (boy I wish that mumbo jumbo was on my side, I wouldn't even have to be in college right now...) and a little help from richman.

It's just too unrealistic. I can't treat this as anything but wild fantasy just because of the teacher thing. Even with a rich guy backing you, you don't become an art teacher at a prestigious high school (not to mention without any formidable intelligence working for you) and succeed. That's just testing the suspension of disbelief limits too much. The fact that the author tries to focus on that aspect of it as little as possible just proves that it's something that the author doesn't really want to deal with seriously, even though it's the only thing tying the main character to her goal (ie it's her means).

That just pretty much makes the overarching plot laughable.

... Which isn't anything new for shoujos. The only problem is that this manga really doesn't have anything to add to the shoujo formula. It's generic as heck. You have your bishos, you have your generic romance, you have your reverse harem, etc. There's also roughly no real character development. The main character's personality is almost completely static. The rich bishos really don't change that much either...

There's really just not much to recommend this thing for. It's easy to see why it's already done in Japan... at least they have some sense. >_>;

Seemed promising, but...

I'd read a lot of reviews about this manga, and was quite looking forward to it. It disappointed me.

It seemed like the mangaka was trying to make Mugi a 'strong' character, but she ended up like the many other shoujo 'strong' heroines. She just didn't strike me as real, and I didn't like her. The main male lead group seems to be made up of one bishie from each stereotyped 'group' (one sharp, one gentleman...). The plot was rushed too much at the start, and from then on has very little development. I have a point of not dropping any mangas, so I'm putting this into 'On Hold', though I highly doubt I'll pick it up again.

Disappointing...

I read good reviews about it so my expectations were high...and they were not met. It felt like I was thrust too suddenly into the story in the beginning. Mugi didn't strike me as a refreshing main character, and I didn't find her likable. She seems like a typical "strong" shoujo main girl to me. That she could get into the school as a teacher is very unrealistic. Her sister's story made me curious a little bit, but nothing more. The characters are nothing new. I wanted to like it (cause on the good-looking guys xD) but unfortunately it didn't deliver for me. I dropped it after 4 chapters.

Having finished all 6 volumes, I have to say this is a good read and recommended if you're a softie for bishounens as there are a lot of them in this book. It's not hard trying to guess who she'll end up with, as it gets jucier towards the end. biggrin

At first, this manga seemed boring, but as I continued to read, it became more and more interesting. Recommended for all. ^^

Somewhat Cliche, But Fun Nevertheless...

Sure, it's the typical story of a nice girl living in a household with bishounen--but I think that in this case, it's a little harder to tell which one she'll end up with, and the mystery about her sister and family is pretty intriguing. Actually, this one doesn't remind me so much of Fruits Basket (since she only attracted two guys, not four--or five or six as there seems to be, and there wasn't much mystery for Tohru to solve) as it does of Hana Yori Dango (a group of four bishounen with outrageous wealth and prestige at an elite school who take in a rather poor, unsophisticated girl as their friend--sounds familiar, no?).

Fruit Basket with a twist?!

I have to admit this one does resemble fruits basket a lot but there are a lot of differences too. The heroines for one are quite similar except i think Tohru sometimes was too nice, while this one just cannot seem to stop herself from helping others. What has me most intrigued is the mistery of it all, i already have some characters which i can tell will or have played a big role on the death and disappearance of the girls family....but am sure we will not find out until to the very end what exactly happened. Another big difference is that instead of two guys wanting the heroine's attention is four, because one way or another although two are in the lead now the other two seem to have developed feelings as well....I wonder how long this one will be, i hope not as long as fruits basket though.

Well, i don't know if it's because i'm older or the later volumes got worst; but the heroine got on my nerves when i picked up where i had left off. The story ended with a ridiculous plot that made little sense, and the romance fizzled out, to the point i didn't care for any of the characters.

I like this story...At first I thought it was like "Fruits Basket", but the girl seems smarter than Tohru, though at times she can have her blond moments. Give it a chance, and I'm sure you will like it

Love the Twist

I really love the twist but I guess part of it is because I was so looking forward to it. Yeah, after awhile it seems cliche. The girl is even an idiot. It reminds me a lot of Fruits Basket.
I still like it.

At first it may seem cliche shoujo in ways, but there is a twist that separates it from the typical school/bishounen thing. The characterization is also very well done. Plus, the art is <3
