Could have been better

Black Bird ended up just being an okay series for me that I think could have been told in less than 18 volumes. There was a lot of potential with the demon and senka maiden mythology, but it just never quite lived up to my expectations. I wanted more action, but instead I got more mushy, over sexed romance.

I liked the demon clans. Those characters were somewhat interesting, but I really couldn't bring myself to muster much affection for our MC's. Misao was whiny and had no life outside of Kyo. What's the point of the senka maiden if she can't do anything other than obsess over Kyo? I was just completely disappointed with the direction her story went in. Kyo was only slightly better. He had that whole demon clan leader thing going on, but...meh.

All in all, the plot for this was weak. It never really goes anywhere and the ending was a let down. I thought it was such a cop out for the writer to go back on everything stated about the senka maiden and certain circumstances in previous volumes. Perhaps if more effort had been put into it, I could have bought into it.

The love they have for each other is s soooo sweetttttt

Story is romantic, strong love between 2 characters is sweet & beautifully , just look at the ending, how the hero battle to save his wife, just so touched n moving
One thing can be true: The story is so far so good
-The way to build the characters are intelligent range of secondarie characters is bold and strong, not much 3 love triangle-"with stranger pop up" around, just mainly focus at 3 one Misao Shou Kyou, that strengthen the story n make it run thoroughly without distracting readers or getting boring
-The conversation amongs characters is sentimental
-The flow of the story is reasonable, smoothly, containing quite a suprise twist when it comes to Shou
-Relationship development when they are at young age till become adult is close, totally make sense, how they cherish their love and concept to protect, the way to approach difficulties together, stuff like playing together as being kids, keep promises n become true love to each other when growing up, just one word to say- GORGEOUS <3
So 8.0 for the series, but im gonna give more 0.5 for the message at the end of the story-life, man should bravely strive till the very last minute, even if outcomes are not as he expect, the effort is still proudly precious
-The category of human n youkai love-needless to say-so popular and richly exploited
Kyou: is like a papa+onisan+husband at the same time, too much perfect/illusive in real life, (ahh of course still hope another shoujo is closer to reality)
Misao: perform best in her possibility, know the way to do right thing in the right situation, yet remain emotional crying so much. Agree with an idea that catching somewhere "there s so much of stupid crying scene, is life that pathetic,,,,?"
Besides, it s really impressive for the love scene that how hard Kyou had practised himself saying he become the clan leader just for the sake having Misao n an innocent Misao stands up ready using tricks even manage to eliminate ones who dare to harm Kyou =>o<= =>o<= =>o<=
There is a lot of hugging embracing trembling,,,,,scene at the end too.... :3, almost 10 pictures go 7 ones, that s really full stuffed yo =0~0=

not like the other

I really like the protoganists both male and female. Misao is not annoying. She know how to deal with the situation not like the other shoujo girl, doing something stupid then regret what she's done. she's not strong enough but she's smart. And also Kyou, he know how to deal with the problem and not leaving Misao.. I just wondering what will be the ending. I am afraid what'll happen to them.

just dont like the concept of sex. Giving it as a main topic (sometimes).

I really like the intensity that the story had, I did not like how the story would drag on for 7 chapters of the same thing pretty much. Art was beautiful.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
starts with a girl that is stuck with spirits always wanting to come after her. She then gets saved by a tengu. This tengu is her next door neighbour and he starts to protect her. He then proceeds to tell her that she is his. And that is when the story unfolds and drags on. It starts small with demons here and there making trouble and trying to eat her. Then it widens to his brother trying to kill if not sacrifice everyone for revenge. Then it switches to their love life not being proper. And even though it's awesome he won't embrace her. Then they do and it becomes this big then. Then people are fighting for her blood. She gets kidnapped. The others get kidnapped. The boyfriend saves a friend that almost goes crazy. The brother is killed. Then she get pregnant and all he'll breaks loose. The baby is struggling to survive because the father wants him dead cause it is said she will die if she gives birth. Then they have the kid. She dies.. Or does she? Nope. No wedding scene either. so all the wedding stuff chapters were for nothing

Depends really.

I think this manga depends a lot on your type of romance. In my opinion, It was pretty cliche and predictable but I was still able to finish it because there were also a lot of really interesting events that happened. The art is beautiful of course, i mean, the cover says it all. I definitely loved the concept of humans and demons because it strays it from being a regular shoujo romance. The characters are very likeable and the main girl isn't annoying or overly strong. She's a pretty realistic human girl who has moments of weakness but finds strength when it comes to protecting her loved ones. Romance is definitely takes the center stage here. Their love is so strong but also quite possessive and obsessive. I do admit sometimes i found myself going "wow.......lol" but that's just me and I think some people like those kinds of manga's. Anyway, I give this an 8/10! Give it a try, it might suit your taste

I am truly happy with this story. I was worried on how they where going to end it and day after day I waited for when a new chapter would be released. For it to be completed and for how they ended it it couldn't of been better. They wrapped up the story nicely and though Im a bit sad to see it finished im glad that I read this story and seen it through to the end.

I don't see why people are so upset over this manga

I really did not care for this manga just because I didn't like the female, or male leads. This story line itself was a bit generic. It was not something that I really enjoyed but others might like it.

HOWEVER...
I don't see why so many people are acting as if this manga is the devil itself. Honestly I didn't think this was very over the top smutty (just my opinion). I see a lot of people complaining that this is 'sexist' and promoting 'abuse'. I'm not quite sure where people get this from. People act as if this is the worst manga ever. I've read many manga that were similar to this and did not get anywhere near the amount of hate that this one has received.

In the end everyone will have their own opinion of this manga. Don't let it put you off of reading it, and please, for the love of god...don't go and read the first chapter and then automatically assume this manga is the worst ever and give it a bad rating. It annoys me to no end when people do that.

I didn't stop at one chapter, or even one volume. I got all the way through volume 10 before giving up any hope that this manga was going to pull itself out of the gutter that @AsexualFujyoshi so succinctly described below. Don't waste your time, your eyes, or whatever precious sliver of sanity is left.. but if you do, don't say you weren't warned.

@rainbowlollipoppony Thanks for the spoiler. This is moving from "On Hold" to "Unfinished." >_<

My problems with it
by Blackfyre

"A lot of people describe Misao as weak and relying on Kyou. This is true; but how else is a perfectly normal girl supposed to survive demon attacks etc. if she has no powers? Isn't it kind of impossible for her to do anything but rely on Kyou and his bodyguard people in order to survive?"
-------
My problem is not that she has to rely on Kyou, I understand the reasons, but rather that why this is necessary is not presented as a problem. The girl is practically doomed to either marry a powerful demon, or die. This is not ever brought up as an existential problem. Even if she discovers that Kyou is "good" and doesn't want her just for personal gain or his clan's gain, she is left without any agency and she is ok with that. WHY? Why is she ok with the fact that the boys we're practically raised to seduce her and make her theirs? Even if they proove to be nice people, how could you ever fully trust them? What if they are puppets in the big game, just like you? Isn't it creepy that while he had a choice, chose and fought to become clan leader for a childhood romance, she was never presented with a choice and everybody acts like that is normal. I know she has no choice, but that doesn't mean she should be all happy and bubbly and accept this situation as it is, even feel GUILTY for everything. Your life is juggled around by other people, you have no say in what happens, and you are ok with that?

I'll start off by saying that me and this manga go waaay back, so it's with great sadness that I must state the truth about this....catastrophe.

It's like a rollercoaster - starts off exciting, but takes a suddden turn for the worse and the rest is downhill from there. All your left with is the bile taste of vomit in your mouth.

This manga started off great for me until
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Misao's pregnancy. When Kyo told her to abortion the baby b/c she'd die and went along with it to save her own skin, I wanted to yell at her, "IT'S NOT THE BABY'S FAULT YOU DECIDED TO SPREAD YOUR LEGS"! I mean, My. God. Now I may be biased in this b/c I'm strictly against abortion, but she was a spineless push-over. I gaurantee you she only went along with it b/c Kyo told her to. Another thing that irked me was how everybody treated the baby when he was older. Like how he said the only #1 person in his dad's heart was his mom and they were like "But, of course". Really, Kyo, you can't have two #1's in your heart? *shakes head in disappointment* To turn your back on your own flesh and blood, how sad.

Up until that I thought it was great. Misao probably would've been better off with Sho. I guess I'll have to sell my manga now.
