Description
From Viz:
A moving drama that is heartfelt and true, yet in the brilliant hands of manga artist Mitsuru Adachi, delightfully flows with a light and amusing touch. The series centers around a boy named Ko, the family of four sisters who live down the street and the game of baseball. This poignant coming-of-age story will change your perception of what shonen manga can be.

Note: Won the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award for Shounen in 2009.

My favourite manga

To me, this is the apex of Adachi's work. He seems to basically write the same story over and over again, but they are always (so far as I have seen) worth reading because of the twists he works in.

Cross game is basically perfect. The story has great characters, a plot that is going to a particular conclusion rather than just running on for ever, wonderful Shounen 'we can get stronger and win' drive, fantastic (if old-fashioned) art, and emotional moments that made me cry.

If you haven't read it, and you think that all this sounds good, start now.

Great as all Adachi mangas, but too similar to his previous works. And that is a little annoying by now. Main protagonists looks and acts too alike like in H2 and Touch. In spite of that it was exciting read as ever. Considering its lack of originality - 8,5/10

Not as good as rest of his works

after reading his other works.....im kinda annoyed by the world revolves around koshien....i dont mind it much..but if it is like part of EVERY single thing it could get extremely annoying. But this manga was was PRETTY likable for the most part, especially the light humor and some of the romance. decent development on both plot and characters (main and side)

however the ending process did kinda leave me peeved, seemed somewhat rushed or with too many holes. but still good. Its Adachi after all

Cross Game is better by far than H2 and Touch, and cute, gripping and readable on top of it, but in the end it really remains the same. Adachi's main characters all look the same as each other, there's always a love triangle, and always a tragedy. I'm glad the principal romantic couple got together in the end, though.

It starts off horribly slow, but it does tend to suck you in as time goes by, so stick with it. As a general rule, though, I try to let a few months go by in between each Adachi manga. ^^;

Truely, an incredible story. it pulls you toward it, and you cant but continue to read it untill the end, and even further.
As much as I would like a continuation of the series, as much am I satisfied with how it ended. Adachi is truely a master in his profession, a mangaka that is able to use every aspect a manga has to offer and utilises it fully. nothing less than a 10 is appropriate here.

Mitsuru Adachi-sensei, thank you for this great, great story!

This is the best series i've read so far out of all. Proves that he's matured yet another step with each series he draws. Probably some might not like the ending, but it is indeed one of the most conclusive ending (not like other ambiguous ending he has) I've ever read (Katsu can be counted in that too but well, i just love Cross Game more). But, even leaving the ending aside, i do feel that Cross Game is the better one overall in term of plot and growth of the chara. And it is similar to Touch for some reason, probably the upgrade version bigrazz

This is probably my favorite of adachi's works. from the very beginning it has you hooked, trying to figure out whats going to happen next. and although im not into baseball, the game scenes were cool. the only thing i was disappointed in was the ending. it just didnt seem like the right place to stop for me. but hey what can you say. this is an adachi work. and most of his endings are like this.

I really love Adachi's work =)
Every time you read one of his story, you'll probably know what will happen in the end (always same face and generally always a sweet end) but there is so much comedy, drama, fun, sport between the start and the end so you can never be tired reading adachi's manga.
And i can't remember a time when i think it would be better if one of the character do something else or if the manga go in another direction... Adachi just do the perfect thing every time =)
Ok i m a bit to enthousiast, sometimes the sport part take a little too much length but it's never boring =)
Ah i hope he would draw again a manga like Nijiiro Togarashi, or with less sport in it =)

Adachi is obviously good at what he does though of course he's not perfect and some of his other works leave something to be desired. But, this isn't some of his "other works". If you had to choose just one Adachi manga to read, I'd recommend this one. Plot, characters, and humor all complement each other perfectly (hint: sometimes it helps to read it a little more slowly and thoughtfully than usual to fully grasp the meanings and appreciate the jokes). Most impressively, he accomplishes the hardest task of all - taking a cliche story and turning it into an exciting, entertaining, and unpredictable masterpiece.

Why oh why must Adachi be so good? I can't think of another series other then On of Adachi's that has made me stay up till 4am reading it.

What can I say that hasn't been said? Cross game starts with a bang, Anyone who has read Adachi's work knows what to expect.

Some kind of Rivalry between 2 people (Either siblings or Love interests), Tragedy (at some point) a hint of romance (Waiting for AobaxKoh) and good story telling overall. I mean really if you have read his stuff you know what to expect but None of his series disappoint. Cross sure hasn't I don't think I've read a sports manga better then it, Hell I couldn't say I can think of many manga in general that has made me crave for more such as this one. Someone said before that They have had times where they get bored of reading and skip parts of manga (for the exception of Adachi) and I must certainly agree.

I too have had the urge to Skip past series (and I have) but Not once on adachi's.

Could talk more about it but that would make this post too long.

Overall good series nuff said.
