obviously a copy of death note. same character set ups, same ideas, same everything! I mean, the main character just looks like bad Light fanart. This shown next to Death Note is worse than Blazer Drive next to Naruto. Its just a bad copy with the same ideas but worse art.

other than the blatant unoriginality, the begining was slightly confusing, and it had me skimming. I didnt like the main character very much either. For a genius, he didnt seem to smart. It's probably bad to have a flawed protagonist that people dont like, but that's just my opinion.

im in no way a death note fangirl (honestly i stopped halfway through. ill finish it eventually) but the characters and situtations are way too simmilar. the main character is just an extreme unrealistic version of light: super genius, make world better through force/frowned upon means(you have to admit, they both want to "cleanse the world of its trash"), same hair, etc, etc- but with an unrealistically emphasized and already-developed 'attitude'(however you would describe it, his evil justice-ness!). i guess this protagonist doesnt go for the word "justice" but he does strive to make the world "better" because he sees it as an awful thing right now.

once that long hair hypnotists guy came in on the side of the police, he is easily recognizeable as the L figure, complete with an odd fashion style (not the same as L's, but equally odd). This is also very apparent in their quiet mini rivalry durring the first hypnotism demonstration performed by the hypnotist guy.

two unconventional protagonists on opposite sides of the law but both on the side of "good" (in their minds) in a battle of wits with the main protagonist having unnatural powers. other than it being much much more fast paced, this is screaming death note.

the only points i think it deserves it the thought needed to be put into the complications of "realistic" hypnotism.

It's not Death Note, Okay!?

I really thought the story, characters, and ideas in this were well written and executed. Yes, there are flaws, but that's cause nothing is perfect. As noted by many, Death Note comes to mind when reading this, but I actually like Hiyama better than Light as an anti-hero. For the length of this manga, I found the pacing pretty good, and I'm sure if It had the length of Death Note it would have been even better!. Just as opinion to oppose some nay say-ers of this manga's plot and devices like
Quote
The entire time I was reading this I could only think of Light from Death Note..... Only Light was a much more rounded character. You could really understand the character, unlike Hirama...
It's really up to the person if you can identify with the protagonist, I found it easier to understand Hiyama because he understood people's hearts; like most you can see the ugliness of people like bullying and murder, but unlike those who just blindly turn their eyes to it Hiyama wants to change it, but not only that he wants to change the base core of human nature itself. Yes, he is egotistical and his ideals have many flaws, but his approach to helping humanity I find easier to understand than Light's motive of becoming a god-like savior, because it's just his self-gratifying wish to have judgmental power. Also for the comment,
Quote
4> The Bluebird Project:
http://mangafox.me/manga/lost_brain/c002/17.html
His deduction about this project just proves that in the manga, the US may have acquired hypnotic power, maybe beyond that of Hiyama. But then again, it would mean that Hiyama would have to battle US's experts in hypnosis, which didn't happen. Too bad.
The blue bird project is stated to use hypnotism to create assassins, so while yes there may be hypnosis experts it was explained in the manga that Hiyama's ability to see a person's heart and their inner desires is a high hypnotic ability, and he didn't even learn that from his studies on hypnosis that's just his innate charismatic ability which makes him a born leader, that's why after just one year of studying hypnosis he could achieve things like mass hypnotism and memory blocking, talents I'm sure if the U.S. blue bird project had, they wouldn't be needing to use hypnotism to make assassins.

well first of all I just finished this series about 10 seconds ago and have to say that I don't know what to think of it >.<...
many people say it's similar to Death Note and I think that's true but strangely at the ending I thought "this totally reminds me of code geass"...
this series wat entertaining enough to read it in one go. It's captivating enough to keep me entertained..even trough the outcome was predictable from the very beginning.

the best part of this manga is probably the idea of hypnotisation wich is a original...I think?

Too Many Non-Impartial Comments

While reading the comments on this manga, I see almost everyone throwing a comment about comparing this to Death Note in some form. Ok fine, the manga's main character, pitch, and even down to the cops feel similar to Death Note but I think it deserves a non-biased view with what is contained in the manga itself.

The manga was decent in my opinion, the use of effective psychology and talk of hypnotism was pretty good as I found many things what was introduced to be accurate. The characters were decent I think, especially the the anti-hero which who had his ideals and just wanted to carry it out because that what he feels is right. The story, plot, characters and use of hypnotism was intriguing to see and pulled me in into wanting to see what happens next. Over all, I think people should just try it if you like anything with anti-heroes.

The main character in Lost Brain and Death Note are pretty similar, if not the same person. But please, that is nothing to look negative on. There are many people in this world whom are dissatisfied with how the world is and envision or hope to change it, so its pretty acceptable that Hirama and Light and similar.

Death Note has its moments, but Lost Brain would most likely sit somewhere in the average block, never to see the day of being known by a large fan base-- light Death Note. But this is not because Lost Brain loses (much) to Death note, but it is because Lost Brain is too short and moved too fast paced to be accepted. Of course, the unrealistic belief of hypnotism limit its fan base (though ironically people accept the story of shimigamis and death note more than the idea of changing the world through hypnotism lol).

Did I enjoy Lost Brain? Hmmm thats a hard one. It is short so it could be, for me, a light read. Those the dead theme really says otherwise. The beginning was good that went out of hand, went to berserk actually. But yeah, sure, I enjoyed Lost Brain to some degree. I will give it it a 6.5

I really tried to like this series, but gave up after 21 chapters.... As I'm sure everyone else has stated it feels just like Death Note of course.... The problem is that it is just not interesting in my opinion.... Most of the characters have decent development, but sometimes something brutally obvious stands out.... My biggest problem is with the supposed master hypnotist that is upstaged left and right and overlooks things right in his face.... I don't know, maybe it'll get better, but I cant hold out for another 20 chapters just to find out.... Anyone interested in something along these lines should check out Death Note and Code Geass first since they're much better....

Spoiler (highlight to view)
I disagree with Comel. I think it's a cool idea, as hypnosis is a real thing. It helps people connect with the series. Also, to those people who say it's an immitation of Death note, I agree. BUT, I think that it's a good thing. Death note was too short, (By that I mean L died to fast) so the next best thing to reading more, is reading an immatation.

I am always a big fan of Death Note style series because these series are actually the voice of a lot of people in the world. This story doesn't have any collision with Death Note and has a great plot of its own. We know one more way to change the world!

An Uite Good Series

lost + brain is a completely new and refreshing series. i just hate it when people compare it to death note. the only thing similar in them is the fact that the main character sets out to change the world and a person related to the police is searching for them. the methods and plans used are completely different. hiyama is quite intelligent.

lost + brain was just unlucky that it came out after death note was released. lost + brain is more realistic as the main character doesn't use some " supernatural powers". i personally love both death note and lost + brain and both of them are epic works.

the only fault it had was that it was too fast paced and short.

i recommend this to people who liked death note and those who don't have a narrow point of view over things.

I really liked this manga. Now a lot of people say this series is very similar to death note, but the only thing similar to death note is the main character! There's nothing bad about this series! If you can't get over the fact that the main character is similar to light, then you might as well stop reading manga! Because how many characters are similar to each other in manga!?
