well... typical

Like most of the other review, this was a good start, with the idea of a "devil lawer" coming to help lost soul, but the change of orientation was just too much... It got typical. The characters where interesting, I really liked Kucabara and his dragon friend (who was the cute item of the serie...). But, even if the change in the serialization bring it in a more "typical shonen" story, I enjoyed reading it until the end. It just wasn't original anymore. Design was apreciable, for the style. Well, not in the best one I've read, but certainly not the badest one either.

It totally lost its original point....

This series was great and caught my interest. It was different and original. And then it went to shitland. It became your typical shounen manga that I predicted half of the stuff that was going to happen, add along your typical shounen fights....ARGH! What happened to Defense Devil?! It just seem to disappeared in the early middle. I'm so frustrated with the series of how it turned out. But I stuck with it till to end... =____= #

Storyplot...interesting in the beginning... Plus it have a lot of flashbacks, which is like storytelling from the present to the past. It feels like the typical author's style since it was done pretty much the same in his other series. But for the way it change, I'll have to give it a low rating of 5

Art, beautiful as ever, so it's a 10.

Character developments is on the top as well....well for some characters. Kucabara is the most developed out of all. Some others....meh, could had been better. I have to say, for the lack of their character development, it seems they make it up with fanservice with their body. =______=;; Anyway, I feel attach to certain characters and I'm glad how they were developed and how they turned out. Some bad guys became good guys and vis versa, so watch out for the ending twist, which I think it's a pretty ok job to wrap it up.

It was good at first

Well, I liked the first concept of the series: a manga about a demon lawyer is a pretty new concept , in my opinion. However, the manga soon moved to a new stage where there were a lot of battles between demons , leading to a very stereotypical shonen manga.
Now that it is going to end in June 2011 , I have to say that it was pretty good in the beginning but it became "just anothe battle shonen" .

I don't know exactly what to say about this series. The beginning was great, started off with great little arcs that made me smile and want to read more. But, as the series progressed, it started to... become not as original. The idea of a devil being the defender of injustice and proving the human to be innocent of his sins. The idea is no longer... here. I mean, the arc with Phoenix gave me a glimpse of how it used to be... defender of injustice with a little comedy incorporated. A kind hearted demon who lost all his powers and needed to recover by doing all this.

The truth is, I liked that idea and I started reading because of that idea. However, as others have stated before me, it just become a shadow of a battle/action shonen instead of what it SHOULD have been. I mean, I knew that eventually, the manga will get serious and start a plotline but, with the defense devil sort of thing, the author and artist could have further developed some characters before bringing the whole fighting thing in. It was too early and too little of the defense idea was used. Saddening.

I wish it could have been this defense thing longer. Right now, its all fighting and stuff. I didn't drop it but, I only wish it could recover and stray back to what it was, the idea that made us all start this potential-filled series.

Starts normally but becomes really great...

tis true. Skip the one-shot. Start with the first issue and go on. The beginning will feel very cliche but as soon as you reach issue 15 onwards and after the intro of a certain protagonist the series really holds its own and even puts a twist on a certain genre convention regarding its powers (the twist is genius). The male protagonist might seem like a typical shonen hero but his sympathy for humans and all is really touching and it actually gets to you and makes you feel for him. All in all, this is one series which is on top of my reading list.

I really liked it at first - it was refreshing and substantially funny. However it became a rather generic action-adventure that lost the essence of its initial premise. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't all bad. It was just disappointing.

Kucabara as a character was entertaining, certainly. He's funny and bad-ass. Maybe its just me but the constant 'big reveal' of his secrets eventually got old. It's a method for character development, but the execution wasn't the best. Why would he go through all the trouble to hide everything? I mean, yes, he's a really angelic guy (pun intended) but why risk your relationships and their lives for that? Actually, some of the big reveals renders some of the past plot points meaningless.

The other characters are quite memorable as well: the bad-ass sister Idamaria, the hot demon model Shugarl (<3 Love this guy) and the adorable Bichula. The other others come and go.

The ending didn't make sense to me. Not at all. Call me a killjoy but I'm sorry! I really wanted to like it, but the excess of Deus Ex Machinas just killed it. No seriously, the thought of Shugarl being raised from the dead is definitely exciting, but the reveal of the Apocalypse Potion was just....ugh

Maybe the manga is a little out of its original path, i still found it a very interesting one. Must admit that the drawing is really good but i dont like the kucabara with long hair, his face and body is too much. Beside, i dont think it has a clear and good ending because it goes on hiatus sometimes, especially the end. Anyway, still rate 10, i had a good time reading it :-?

Yet another series goes down the toilet

The first ten or twenty chapters were pretty enjoyable. Nice artwork, a relatively novel premise, nice mix of action and humour, excellent artwork and relatively short but complete storylines. Im not sure if it wasnt doing well enough or if the authors just decided to take the piss but since the "Demon World Arc" started this series has gone to shit. Its become yet another tired battle manga. The only decent thing about it is the flashbacks as the past stuff was cool. The storyline just feels disjointed and bizarre (the plot randomly switches between characters and timelines, e.g. the priests flashback mini-arc),the characters act with no rhyme or reason (why the fuck did Shugarl become "good"? It was semi-expected but some reason to it would be nice, why not flashback that, eh?) the tone is all over the place (what the fuck is up with the sentient car?). Its so disappointing considering its very positive start. Up until the demon arcs it was a 7 or 8, since then its generally 5 (maybe 6 considering the artwork is excellent).

They're taking a break? Cliched shounen? Unless we are reading two different series, there's nothing that shouts Shin Angyo Onshi! bigger than
Spoiler (highlight to view)
a few light-hearted, episodic first arcs; a loyal midget as a sidekick; a protagonist with a dramatic past who has been exiled from his own country and coming back just to find that everyone is his enemy.

Judging from SAS, this should quickly evolve into an epic series with major plot twists and flashbacks, but probably not as sad and dark. Hopefully I'm wrong about the last bit though. MOAR plz!

One of my favourite mangas

Maybe 10 would seem a lot, but I enjoyed it alot and I feel it is the right rate.

In the first chapters the routine was: mystery solved in a Detective Conan style, blows, win, mystery, blows, win, mystery blows, win... Why the hell there should be a fight after a "process" I dont know, but thats okay.
Then it turned without preadmonition in an action/adventure shonen, with some romance to comllete the plate.

Anyway I liked the story and the drawings, it entertained me.
