Definitely worth reading

Well, i know a lot of us have been disappointing with the Harem tag (including me) But I realised that even though it does put me off a lot, i cna still read it. The story is headed somewhere for sure, and it Wont have a harem ending. Atleast it doesnt look like that from the recent chapters. I currently read chapter 46, and am eagerly waiting for more development in the plot. Its a good shonen romance, please give it a try.

[spoiler]It was pretty good at first, but its obvious that it was meant to end shortly after chitoge figured out that she loved the MC.
But you don't kill a goose that lays gold eggs so the author is dragging it as much as possible.

Better Than Average, But Still Just The Same Old

Niseoki is an overrated harem manga. Plot wise it's "kind of" unique featuring a group of 1 boy and 3 girls (the lone male being the male lead and MC) who used to play together when they were kids until eventually they all grew up and "forgot" about each other, years later they all eventually meet each other again (correction remember each other) as high schoolers and later realize they were childhood friends and remember about the lock the MC has around his neck and the "promise" they made to one another as well as some memories (are you serious?). The only way this plot makes sense is if there was a quadruple case of amnesia.

The characters and art are quite likeable and that can be considered one of the key differences between this manga and any other one, though pretty weak if you ask me. Another change in this manga is the the MC, unlike most Harem MC's "Raku" (MC) is actually reliable and not some good for nothing who "accidentally grabs a girls chest" then gets smacked by the manga's tsundere character.

Another key difference between Niseoki and other harem manga is that this one has NO fan-service/ecchi scenes, so it is purely harem and drama, also the mafia families play no significant role in the manga whatsoever so its more of a "they're just kind of here thing" so don't expect anything worthwhile. Another problem is that the manga is far too long and just dragging itself on the author had the chance to end it multiple times.

All in all though this series is really nothing close to "Amazing", story development wise its nothing special and really just "common" other than the plot this manga brings nothing new to the table, if you simply like reading harem manga then by all means read this one it will suit your tastes just fine, but what this manga and many other harem manga/anime are missing is the "plot first, romance second" aspect, but I guess if this sells anything sells

Down-hill

In all honesty, the plot for this manga is going nowhere at this point. The author is just elongating the manga with the over-sized harem. I'm not a big fan of harems, in truth, and I think I can handle some harem plots, but I cannot go through with this story anymore. Chapters ago, I praised this story with a much higher rating. Now all I can give it is a four.

I couldn't even bring myself to finish chapter 80, because it was bland. The story is riddled with gags, confusion, and promises that nobody even remembers. Which is another thing I wish the mangaka would focus on. I want to see developement, not a bunch of girls and one guy flopping around in their own pool of embarrassment and anger.

I know this story will come to an end, and Raku will either fall in love with a girl (most likely Chitose or Onodera, rooting for Chitose) or the story will just end with Raku still not with a girl and they're all chasing after him.

But I don't know when that end will be. I mean, I think Chitose is a great character, and the whole yakuza enemy situation is an interesting concept. But the mangaka doesn't indulge in it, the only thing he/she pulls out is the whole protective/crazy bodyguard. Overused, it's something you'll see multiple times whenever the author decides to give Raku and Chitose time together.

I don't particularly like or dislike Onodera. But then, Tsugumi, Tachibana, and Onodera's sister come along.

Worst peeve in the story: Tsugumi. God-awful character, I dislike everything about her. She makes the manga not worth reading. I was hoping she was going to stay as gag relief, but no, the mangaka would never have that, because there just wasn't enough girls.

I praise the art though, wicked action scenes and character designs.

I'll let this manga sit for a while, then come back to it to make my final judgement. But whoever is into crazy, crazy harems, read this story. I'm quite positive (90%), that many of you readers will side with either Chitose or Onodera, because they're really the only relevant characters to any story developement. The first half was pretty good, but I don't know how you'll feel once you get further. Good luck and I hope you enjoy.

Ingredients for Nisekoi:

1 cup of "Every cliche drawn on any romance/harem manga"
2 cups of mediocre fanservice
3 cups stupid childhood backstory
1/20th teaspoons of Originality

Mix, then scatter for the swarming fanboys

Short review. All the "rival" characters that have appeared after Onodera are just boring and unlikeable. The whole lock-and-key-past is so undescribably stupid that whenever its brought up in the manga I feel like I'd be better of using my time to finger saggy grannies (not to mention, its just a lazy rehash of the childhood setup in Love Hina). Female protagonist's blonde hair is genetically impossible and I'm pretty sure her bunny ears are a school dress code violation

The one redeeming feature of this manga is the male protagonists best friend. A funny lad he is. But again, like everything else, he's just another "something that I've seen before"

Maybe just read the one-shot?

The oneshot of this manga (before it was serialized) was fun, funny, unique, and had really cool and clean art. I’d give it a 9!

Then it got serialized.

>.> ehhmn…. Well, anyway, If you’ve read any of the other comments before, you know it became the most predictable, cliché, shojo, school life, childhood promise plot that has been, and is forever doomed to be again, recycled relentlessly in countless manga. But it’s not all bad, I suppose. I’ll focus on the good points, then you can decide for yourself.

I enjoyed the oneshot so much I’m still holding on, and I guess the cliché plot devises have a little bit of draw to them, otherwise they wouldn’t be so popular. I personally would like to see a bit more…unique…ideas. The art is still cool and clean looking, and I truly enjoy the artist style. His/Her humor faces are pretty epic, at points. ^-^ Right now, the direction that the manga has gone is not the rout my first impression of the oneshot implied. The clashing gang/mob clans don’t seem to be addressed other than the threatening glue holding the two main protagonists together in their falsified relationship. If you’re not a fan of ACTION action, then, you’re probably safe, as most violence is our tsundre’s fault or gag violence. (I personally am more privy to ACTION action…) If you like harem relationship drama, they've got that going for them, too. Once again, all the females around our male lead are falling for him, whether they like it or not.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
We’ve also got the secondary character bases covered- childhood friends, a cross-dressing “masculine” female, unrequited love that is unrequitedly returned, a reluctant female companion that “hates” our lead, ect…
Edit: and now a fiancee our male lead didn't know about! How surprising! -_-
Another Edit: and the "little sister" defending her older sister ladies and gentlemen! -_-

It’s not a retched manga, we’ve simply yet to see anything unique to the plot besides the initial oneshot setup. Honestly, read the oneshot, it won’t take long and it’s worth the look. Then you can decide weather you think the manga deserves a look afterwards.

Edit: I'm basically done with this manga. it's caught itself so far in this rut that i'm of the opinion there is no redemption. I catch myself not even reading the scanlations anymore, it's so mindless and predictable.

It started out really nice, my rating was 10 back then. It was cute and funny, with the heart pendant mystery and stuff. But somehow, idk why as the chapters go on.. the girls just keep on increasing. I don't really have anything against Harem but somehow it's starting to get annoying. It's like, there's no progress in the Romance at all. Sure, Chitoge's feelings have progress but, Raku's feelings just keep on getting mixed up with the other girls.

Somehow, I'm starting to want to drop this.

Even though it is a little cliche, it's still enjoyable. Reading this doesn't hurt! Despite the harsh judgement I still like it and think it deserves a better output than the other reviews. I honestly LOVE it and wait every week for the next chapter smile

Somewhere in there

Somewhere in there, somewhere in this manga is an interesting plot. But saying that it progresses at a snail's pace is a massive understatement. Outside of the seemingly plotless narrative, you have a cast of shallow unlikeable characters (the main heroine especially), a cookie-cutter protagonist, repetitive attempts at humour, and one of the worst excuses for a harem I have ever seen. You know there is something wrong with a manga when an arc that has barely anything to do with the overarching plot is far more interesting than any of the meager plot progression that there has been so far.

EDIT: The manga ended in the most predictable way possible, and it just ended, just sort of fizzled out. It didn't feel like a climax, it just ran out of material.

Fun Read!

This is really fun read, every chapter has decent amount of Comedy and Romance Elements mixed

all girls have their own personality and are very likable, Naoshi fans should give this a chance instead of comparing it to it's One shot OR Double arts for that matter, coz Nisekoi in itself is a good stand alone series and should be treated as such

10/10 for enjoyment factor alone
