great slice of life series

this was the greatest slice of life ive read until now...

Spoiler (highlight to view)
i really felt for the characters eventhough i didn't like that it got turned mainly into a love story between two charas in the chapters nearing the end of the series & their efforts to get close to each other...bleh...that wasn't y i read the series in the first place *spoilers end*

anyway, genshiken is an amazing title...it says so much about otaku culture...so many great quotes that genshiken charas said about being an otaku will always stay with me...it really gives u a great perspective about y ppl get obsessed with games, manga, anime, cosplay, idols, doujinshi, figures, gunpla and many more that define otaku subculture...it gives u an insider's perspective...its really the best series for anybody who wants to know more things about otaku and about all their interests and what they find so fascinating about them...it also mentions many things that u probably dont know unless u lived in japan (shimapan only events!!! ??? ?? jesus...)

the art is just awesome...such a skilled artist...it has a very homemade feeling...natural lines without the strict structure of a manga made with the aid of a computer...lavishly detailed....very rich and filled with detail...u can see the love that was put into it from all the lil' details everywhere...i just love it

such an enjoyable title....i wish other manga would be more like genshiken...very realistic

p.s: i must thank JJ for mentioning that i can read manga for free at the store Public because thats where i started reading genshiken and where i read most of the vols :p thx JJ!

p.s2: i cant wait to watch the anime now!!!!

I love it!
I read it all in like a week (though I had read the 7 first chapters before) It's really slice of life, it has some really cute moments, some hardcore moments, some sad moments... It has everything! It's not TOO long and it's not too short either, though I'd have like read a little bit more in the end.

Story was original and lovable characters make this a memorable manga to read. Romance was good and the ending satisfied me, didn't really leave much loose ends. Recommended

Well, I started watching the anime since I've always been curious of how it is being an otaku in Japan (or perhaps anywhere for that matter). I have never gotten the chance of being involved in any manga/anime-related activities where I grew up so I kind of feel that I've missed something smile

Anyway, apart from giving me some more insight into another lifestyle, the series also introduced me to a set of characters that felt genuine, funny, silly and absolutely adorable. Not all characters... but some, like Madarame, Saki and Kousuke, were brilliant. It was a different take on romance, which I'm a sucker for, as well as the slife of life-genre, so I won't hesitate giving this top notch grades.

I do understand if some people gets bored by this... but personally I feel that I've been rewarded with some wonderful moments reading it!

I really liked how it's all the different otakus and each character has their own personality. I wasn't too into it when I first started it but as they added more characters it really got good. The characters are great! Ohno is exactly like someone I know!

The romance at the end did seem a little rushed and I wish they had dragged it out a bit more or started it earlier. But Ogiue x Sasahara are a great couple! Wish there was more to this series.

Beyond ordianry...

It's more than just another slice of life story about a group of friends. Every chapter seems to be shown in such a way that it never pees on you watered down cliché. Instead, it gives you suspense that isn't possible in other action manga such as Naruto or Bleach and can only be hoped for in one shots, and shoujo manga. The suspense here is the kind where you want to know more and more about all of the characters, and KIO Shimoku seems to try hard not to let you down. This comment may be another rehash of all the good points about this manga, and let a thought or two stay on your mind a little bit while you decide or not whether to read this. As a recent convert to the exiting and volatile world of Japanese art and story, The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture (げんしけん 現代視覚文化研究会 ) has given me some sort of weird twisted push to learn more about the Japanese culture. There's more to say, and this is it for me.

Divinewind,
and the ending is unique and nice with no real cliffhanger

I started this series because a friend recommended it. I didn't think that a story about otakus was going to be good, but I was pleasantly surprised. The humor is very great, but there's a mysterious entertaining quality about the manga that I can't really describe. I guess I just enjoyed seeing the otakus' strange but realistic antics.

I really loved Genshiken. Sure, not everybody will enjoy this but I love the humor and the portrayal of different otakus. It's a life built on the views of otakus and how they'll deal with reality. It's a lax, laid back manga that just wanders around, just like how we might be feeling. I absolutely adored it.

Plus, I can relate to the characters ~

This is one of the highest rated manga in mangaupdates but what's so great about it?
I saw this one a long time ago and i thought this wasn't for me, but the high rating forced me to try it at least. I've read volume 1 so far and to tell the truth i had to force myself to finish it.
Story is boring, art is not that great, characters isn't anything special.

What's so great about this?!?! Does it get better later on or should i just stop reading now?

Definitely panders to a specific audience, especially the earlier volumes, so I guess it wouldn't be for everyone. Chances are though, if you're reading this comment on this site, there's going to be something in Genshiken you can relate to.

Nice art, unique and charming (in their way) characters and if you like slice of life type stories it's still good even if you aren't necessarily in the target audience.
