A coward of an author
by Fundefined

Rating: 4.0  / 10.0
The author doesn't have enough balls to give his main characters moral ambiguity. The question that these Battle Royale style stories tell is fundamentally: when should humans cooperate and when should we kill? Will he or won't he kill? What will trigger it? What trials will he face? How does his decision affect his overall character? Its suppose to be a suspenseful dilemma but the author never lets the main characters even seriously consider killing. All of the killing is done by the antagonists who are clearly in the wrong. I'm not saying that all main characters have to give in to their darker sides but at least try to keep the audience guessing.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Case in point: The doctor is spared by the woman whom he betrayed and left to die after pretending to love her. The MC never considers killing the old man even when he is targeting the girl he loves.

Just as the title for my comment says, this is basically a re-vamped copy of Battle Royale. A few different things, but main story same as battle royale... Art is ok.... But due to the fact that the mangaka has no imagination... i give it a 6.5.

Tense, Interesting and Exciting

The story is unique with the use of elements of survival game with bomb strategies and the decision between ethics and to kill in the real life game.
The main guy is quite smart. The author has well depicted all sorts of emotion of the characters. I think that the main guy is still young, that's why he can't act calm all the time. If the main guy only acted cool like the sunglasses-guy, I think the story would be different and there won't be tension and excitement filled within the story. So I'm ok with how the story has been set up. It makes me want to follow the story and want more of it. And the plot and pace is well done and the art and graphic is a plus.
May be I'm kinda new to this genre, but this manga gives me tension and excitement.
With Yen Press licensing it, I think it's worth the wait and worth to buy.

THE STORY
Lately in chp 44, the story just come because idiotic act of main char hestitaing to kill his enemy. because he pity his enemy and release them. and then the enemy came back again to kill him. something like this always repeat in this manga. so tired. thats why i can guest what will outcome. it's not apply in the real life. and the main char not growing/developing to something cool man(weak to strong). still 'AS IS' in the first chapter. no much defferent so far after 44ch. There is no much other character till now(or maybe still not shown?). Not so much interesting stories to make me wait with desperate lush.
he should not hestitaing to kill his enemy since he always kill his enemy in the game.

THE FACE
Male face is so annoying, especially when in the disadvantage/shock mode, although he already encaounter many battle, why his face always show a shock and despereate? there is no cool act or calm face like the glasses one . the glasses one is very cool, he is very calm and smart when fight. The female is very cute. i hope more romantic/mature scene. not always in panic face.

THE GRAPHIC
The graphic is quite good. well drawn and can draw a fighting scene too.I give scrore 7 just for graphic, since female main char so cute. XD

First Survival Manga

I haven't read the best known survival manga like "Battle Royale" and "Gantz" but I soon will after reading this manga. I plot is really interesting when the protagonist is playing the game in real life. Of course they have to much some ecchi in it for fan service but it's okay to me because it's not too excessive that it will ruin the plot.

The downside to the story is that many of the things about the survival manga is already shown. I'm not excited to read this manga as much as other manga's because pretty much everything is explained in 30 chapters. Like other said the plot is starting to just become where the main character beats/kills is opponent and next come the other enemy. It's kind of getting repetitive and so I am thinking if the author can really end the manga on a good note.

Overall it's a really good read. Don't expect a masterpiece work but the plot is interesting and keeps you wanting more.

I am a sucker for survival manga, so I like this one. The idea that he is a secret expert at the game is quite interesting, and they can really develop that storyline. I hope we see more diverse characters. My only gripe is that they basically told us the concept and the reality of the island already.

Its better that I imagined it to be.(minor spoilers ahead)
I like the premise of a NEET in a kill-or-be-killed situation. And about the setting... it’s not that there are that many places where a survival death game with bombs can be realistically organized. So the uninhabited jungle island is perfect. So it’s bound to cross into other similar works of the same genre. My personal opinion is that Btoom! is more entertaining.
The main reason why I go hourly at japanzai to check is because o the main hero. Sakamoto is the kind of hero I like to read about. Not the perfect, shining hero. No… he doesn’t qualify even as a decent human. But if he wasn't that screwed he wouldn’t have been selected for this deadly game. (BTW why do rich folk enjoy so much to watch gladiatorial\survivor-of-the-last games?) So you have all the rejects of society dropped on an island and armed with different kinds of bombs. The choice of weapon makes for some strategic decisions and this is something that differentiates this from other mangas. Still the action scenes are great and well-balanced.

Sakamoto is in the same ally as Kei Kurono of Gantz, lots of flaws but super cool if he is forced to. There is the beginning of a romance in the recent chapters, but I thing the girl(15 years old) is a lil bit to young for him(22). But after he killed somebody does pedophilia sound much worse? And yeah what’s his frigging hair color: in the covers he has jet dark hair and in the manga it looks blonde.

A must read (for me at least).

The art is a bit unconsistant, this is one of the things that made me not want to read it after I tried it 2 times, but I'm a sucker for survival manga, so I tried it anyways, it turned out pretty well.

The setting's maybe the same as in battle royal, but unlike in battle royal this manga provides us strategic thoughts too, whereas in battle royal they just fight like crazy with some highschool kids, which only think about simple thoughts like "Lets make a team yay!". It remindes me kinda of chess and the idea with the radars is very exciting too. I'm looking forward to the romance and what will happen next.

In my opinion way more gripping than battle royal.

A subjective entry, in an over-used setting.

After a couple of chapters, The major plot and setting seems to have been taken directly from 'Battle Royale'. but with some minor twists and different characters, that are compelling enough for a reader to give it a distinctive feel from Battle Royale. So far, it introduces us to a quite similar feeling as other notable survival manga's, but future chapters may give this manga it's uniqueness and distinguish it from the other major ones.

unfortunately, The setting has very negative impact to the plot, and it feels very unpolished by common standards. As a reader i would really like to see something outside this cramped island, And not just another recycled live or die situation, with the main character surviving together with the heroine and they live happily ever after. It needs a change in it's setting, to give the plot a bigger spotlight, because as it seems from the recent chapters, We have the typical face an obstacle (usually a new villian), pass the obstacle (After some heavy struggle), proceed on (Usually the part when new characters and plot-twists are introduced) and the cycle continues.

This manga HAS to really prevent itself from doing that, or we'd just have another mediocre Battle royale rip-off, because there's no way in hell this manga will ever have better character back-story then Battle Royale, at least not what it has shown.
