Not enough chapters

Currently up to Ch 9 My first thoughts are it doesn't have enough content so far to really say anything concrete there has been a basic prologue which includes the reason for the characters predicament and motivations as well as the introductions of a couple other big characters. I guess if there were pros and cons from what I've read so far the cons would be it's pretty black and white with the mc being the hero, good guy, saviour etc and for him to fight here are our villains, monsters, bad guys a lack of a grey area for both is a bit sad it could've spiced up the story more who knows we might get some of it later on but it makes certain areas predictable (oh I wonder what this gaurd is going to do to this helpless person hint it's not gonna be something good). On the pros side I'm enjoying the fact the bad guys aren't idiots or morons it raises the tension for the fact it isn't simply gonna go the mcs way every time this kinda leaves me unsure of what could happen to the mc (oh here is where every mc from every kind of action scene imaginable does this oh wait it's different this time). I guess another thing would be is this manga is much darker than I first thought as it dips it's feet into the tragedy genre more so than I first thought it doesn't seem like theres gonna be a happyly ever after for this story.

Disappointed

I had lowered my expectations hearing it compared to Attack on Titan, another series that fails in much the same way. Yet, I was still disappointed.

The big distinguishing difference here is Attack on Titan distracted the audience from poor writing with "random" violence. This author, however, keeps throwing out taboos and violence to distract the audience.

Let's see how many taboos we can check off in just 8 chapters:

Cannibalism
Incest
Rape
Pedophilia and Homosexuality in a single instance
Bestiality

Don't forget all the bloody violence. The author seems to have a real fetish for severed limbs and burned bodies. I probably missed some but those were just the ones off the top of my head.

The funny thing is that, aside from the cannibalism and violence, none of it actually occurs on screen. Any attempts made "on screen" are all failed.

After 8 chapters, the characters and story feel flat and boring. Most of the characters die before you get the chance to care about them and the "plot" is little more than a prop for whatever fetish this series is supposed to fill.

This is just another in a growing trend of trying to distract the audience with "shock and awe" type tactics to cover for poor writing. I really wish this trend would just die in a fire but it just keeps coming back, much like the main protagonist.

It's Beautiful

Seriously it's beautiful. After reading part of the 1st chapter I thought the author was just being edgy for the lolz, but as I kept on reading I realized that this was pretty damn awesome. Like seriously, I was shocked by how much it touched me.

There's no super long build up and no preachy speeches. Everything is just messed up cause that's the way things are. When I start an apocalyptic manga this is the type of briefness I want. We've all read dystopian stories before, there's no need to go into the gritty detail of human de-evolution. Just plop us in, tell us the background( in this case it's a world encased in ice) and get the ball rolling.

On a personal note: I hate revenge driven characters and plot lines. A story has to be real good to get me behind a revenge plot. As a point of reference, one of the reasons I dropped Beserk was because the revenge plot didn't move me. Here I am recommending a revenge plot. Take that as you will.

As my fellow commenter bellow said this series first chapter will come at you full throttle at you and you won't expect it so...

DON'T SAY ANYTHING WHEN RECOMMENDING THIS SERIES AND IF YOU'RE PLANNING TO READ IT DON'T CONTINUE READING DESCRIPTIONS!

If not, then the impact of the prologue won't be the same. I feel like this series needs to be taken as is and let it brew inside our minds. If, by any chance, this series goes downhill I feel like it would be a waste for my fellow manga readers to not feel what this series managed to deliver just on the prologue alone.

The next big thing?

Wow. That first chapter caught me off-guard. The comparison to Berserk and Shingeki no Kyojin is spot on.
You know the feeling, when you read/watch the first chapter/episode/whatever of a series and think: "Pretty neat, but I have the feeling there might come even more" and then years later this thing turned into a massive hit? I'm not saying this will be certainly the case with Fire Punch, but who knows. I'd give it a 10% chance. And in best case I was one of the first to comment on the future manga hit. xD

The story starts furiously and epic as hell. The premise is simple, but pretty much all great storys have simple premises and expand on that. There are some quite shocking scenes which let me checking if this is really considered Shounen....ehm yes, it is o.O
I haven't seen such a first chapter in a long time, especially not in a Shounen.
The art is not really that good, my only critic. But it works for now and the mangaka will surely get better. (might this be a newcomer? Didn't find any other manga series by him)

It will all depend on how the next chapters work. This might be the next Shingeki no Kyojin or it falls apart very quickly.

In either case: Read it! This first chapter is amazing!

This is amazing

the darkest most insane berserk level despair, with the main character as a mythical entity of vengeance, undying and unyielding to avenge all he knows in an apocalyptically cold and empathy devoid landscape.

1 chapter in an insta bookmarked.
