Can't rate it down for being only 5 volumes. Really nice, fitting art, great plot backed up by the character's personalities. Short and sweet, in my current top 5 manga.

Shallow: Lacking interest or substance.
The characters and their little magical ninja power gimmicks are boring and uninteresting-- even the large-busted naked ladies, yes-- and when one of them dies, I've asked myself: Do I care? The mangaka, whatever his name is, is terrible- terrible at establishing a connection to any of them. So, unless you yourself find some interest in them, you probably won't care if their heads are lopped off. Or you will care that they aren't being lopped. All-in-all, just not very well-though-out.

Flat Characters

Basilisk is a lot like Ninja Scroll. If you like Ninja Scroll, you'll probably like Basilisk. Its main flaw is that there is relatively little character development - it seems like most of the characters only exist for the sake of their special ability. The consequence is that you feel very little attachment to characters when they die and have little stake in preferring one clan to win over the other. If the author had been able to create fleshed-out, likable characters, this manga might have been great.

I didnt like it very much, I know its for certain people who like action blood and extreme amounts of gore but I could already see how this was going to end after reading volume 1. Everything became a little too predictable and I found the gore to be getting annoying. Gantz has lots of gore but at the same time they have a better storyline and a not so boring formula. For those who need gory mangas to appease them, read Gantz instead.

Crazy awesome. The artwork is detailed and remarkable. While the story isn't ingenious, the characters are unique enough to be enthralling keeping you suspended in the thrill of action. Your typical ninja manga done very well.

Realism is a plus. Although the length of the story detracts the appeal. The subplot for each character fleshes them out making them more substantial. For such a short story, this was awesome, lol...

prob would be one of my favorite manga if it wasnt for the tragedy part very sad manga but im a romance freak. but seriously if you put that much time and effort and love into someone and in the end they just die its enough to make you crazy

A Dramatic Lovestory
Rating: 7.5 / 10.0

This is basically a Romeo & Juliet story. Only difference is that it takes place in Feudal Japan, and that the characters have some crazy ninja skills. If you like stories with a tragic ending due to a love that was never meant to be, then I definitely suggest you read this.

What I also find great about this manga is how these characters are actually all reasonable and nice people. As long as you're from their clan. But when you pair them up with the other clan they literally want to kill them.

It shows that there isn't really a good or bad side because each clan has those moments. Even the side-characters who you don't expect anything from leave an impact with their story.

It's a great read and its anime equivalent is a good adaptation. The fight scenes are dynamic and unpredictable.

The art is great too, especially the covers of the volumes.

Bottom line: This is a tragic love story(with fighting) about two people who are not meant to be together.

Awesome manga! The main plot is the relationship between the leaders of two ninja clans but what you basically see is ninjas fighting ninjas with incredible skills. The art is superb! Definitely a must-see seinen.
