During the Edo period, Japan is suddenly invaded by alien creatures known as the "Amanto." Despite the samurai's attempts to combat the extraterrestrial menace, the Shogun soon realizes that their efforts are futile and decides to surrender. This marks the beginning of an uneasy agreement between the Shogunate and Amanto, one that results in a countrywide sword ban and the disappearance of the samurai spirit.

However, there exists one eccentric individual who wields a wooden sword and refuses to let his samurai status die. Now that his kind are no longer needed, Gintoki Sakata performs various odd jobs around town in order to make ends meet. Joined by his self-proclaimed disciple Shinpachi Shimura, the fearsome alien Kagura, and a giant dog named Sadaharu, they run the business known as Yorozuya, often getting caught up in all sorts of crazy and hilarious shenanigans.

Plays its cards really well
Rating: 9.0 / 10.0

This manga is one of the few mangas out there that is great because of how well the mangaka knows how to play his cards with comedy. The reason why I am giving this manga a very high rating is because of how the mangaka is really devoted to staying loyal to the comedy gag genre, despite it also being an action shounen. I admire the fact that the manga maintained and developed its comedy level throughout the years.

I give this 9/10 because of how well the plot is played out in a hilarious gag way, have no fear you wont be cheated with this manga, if its a gag manga then you wont find any dramatized and whiny arcs, this manga is all laughs and comedy even when the plot is supposed to get serious.

I don't read the manga, but watch the is INSANE...IT IS IN MY TOP 5 ANIMES '(1. one piece 2. Naruto 3. GINTAMA 4. hitman reborn 5. bleach/d-grayman)..... gotta say the one who made this is a genius, why? simple it's funny, random and they can be really serious sometime when they are fighting. As much as i like the jokes the fighting scenes are always insane. p.s my mum always call me crazy, when i'm watching this, why?! 'cause i can't stop laughing when watching GINTAMA, it's just too funny

There are many many shounen series that start off leaning heavily on the comedy crutch before they gain a plot, and then when they try to dabble in comedy again it doesn't work at all. Gintama is not one of them. Instead, Gintama dabbles in plot as a way to set up and bolster comedy. The humor here is subversive, silly, sometimes gross, often breaks the fourth wall, and makes fun of everything indiscriminantly, especially Jump and shounen manga itself. The arcs, what arcs there are, are just short enough so that they don't wear out the reader's patience if they're not the type to enjoy shounen cliches (and there are cliches, this is still Jump). The characters are likeable - this is not the type of manga where the characters evolve in any significant way so you have to like them as they are. However, it's like hanging out with your old friends when they're this familiar. Highly recommended

This is perfect comedy for me, because comedy isn't my favorite genre, but I'm going with this, and laugh uncontrollably while reading this XXDDD the only pure-comedy manga that I am really into it!

Bleach, Naruto and then Gintama. This is my favorite anime and manga. Well because it is my favorite, what else I can give to my favorite manga. It's 10.

The favorite arc I like is yoshiwara arc.

PS: did you know the biggest women country/ Red Light District belong to what manga? It is Gintama.

and "Please SUPPORT the mangaka by BUYING the ORIGINAL Gintama manga."- Gintama Fan

Because everybody just read online and not buying them.

I do enjoy this manga, it makes me laugh despite my strange and awkward humour.

But even though it might be a great laugh or not. There isn't any solid storyline or plot that it actually follows. It gains an arc or a short plot at the mangaka's whims but it isn't suggested to people who are looking for a story with a plot to follow. It is more of a sit back relax manga that you can fall back on when you are looking to past the time or have a good laugh.

the story: amazing, it can make a perfect story that integrates Hilarius jokes with it perfectly.
art: great, has amazing add to detail, maybe too much though sometimes.
comedy: amazing, no more needs to be said.

10/10 what less can I give it?

The epic Gintama

From my point of view there is only one word to define this manga. EPIC, yes that's right epic. From the first time you read it you go into a laughing frenzy.

Believe it or not it happens to me. You will learn to admire Gin-san the main protagonist along with the other crews such as the four eyed Shinpachi, alien girl Kagura and many more.

The comedy in this manga is one the best that I have seen before. Trust me when I say you will have a hard time stopping yourself laughing at the jokes. There are also quite a few battles in this manga that i find interesting.

Long story short, if you are looking for a manga that will knock you senseless or just a fan of comedy than look no further Gintama is your manga.

Seriously I Love Gintama!

The characters, Gin and co. and their counter trio the shinsengumi and the supporting ones are hilarious and epic in terms of individual histories. 10/10 Just love the fact that this is an astounding pure comedy manga that makes me laugh my ass off TO THE EXTREME!
