Read Vagabond instead...

1) The artist is kinda bad at drawing facial expressions. Even tho the combat scenes are great, the stupidly drawn faces kinda puts me off.

2) Poor job of setting up the background story and introducing the characters. You're just kinda thrown into the manga, and before you can get acquainted with the characters, the story takes off. Everything happens so fast, which dampens the suspense. That's probably why it was hard to feel any connection with the characters here.

3) Gama is one dimensional and too strong right off the bat. He doesn't have any depth as a main character. He's just a kid who's really good at fighting... what else is there to say? He doesn't do a thing for me as a protagonist. Sure he comes off as cool at first, but after the initial impression, I realize that I'm just not that into him at all. At least in Vagabond, the protagonist embodies the samurai spirit. This kid is kinda shallow. Without any emotional or spiritual depth, he's just a guy who likes to kill.

4) The combat scenes are great... love the motion captures.

5) I don't like that the main character kills people so easily, without blinking an eye. Especially since he's just a kid. Since his reason for fighting is a bit shallow, I kinda look down on him. It's hard to root for these kinds of protagonists.

haven't read any manga lately, especially fighting ones. But this one is very good, so far i cant stop reading it. great battle scenes, the protagonist, although just a boy, but is limitless when it comes to fighting. reminds me of Baki.

Whereas I thought this would be a cliche fighting manga with just another tournament, the author clearly knows what he's doing.

Enemies will use various strategies with their weapons to corner their opponent and go for the kill even against a kid. They will ignore all morals just to spread their school's name. When you think there is no way the main character could survive a blow that would strike all critical areas of his body, he would barely survive recieving minimum damage. This is really realistic, fast paced fight scenes using any method to win including ambushes and the like. Weapons will also get worn down in fights against various other weapons. People can die at any time in this manga.

The fight scenes are just incredible with many types of fighting styles all used to their maximum potential. The author definitely knows what he is doing.

Really loving this series so far. For one thing the main character (Gama) ain't no ordinary character that you usually in Shonen manga, for one thing he kills without hesitation nor does he give long ass preachy speeches to convert he's enemies because well... their dead. heh

The action scenes are very well done so you see clearly what's going on. There's also a bit of comedy that you see similar to Vagabond manga series. So far the series has been pretty damn good gonna keep checking this series out.

The art is quite amazing, and the setup of this story leaves a lot of room for how the manga will play out.

I think this manga could easily be one of the best fighting manga this year, looking forward to reading the rest of it before I make any further comments.

The protagonist is just in his teens. Most people would be suspect that he would be one of those cliche shounen characters who does not kill. Its rather the opposite he still retains that childish personality but shows no fear of killing when he fights.

The plot is rather original and the action is awesome. The art is great. Gamaran is worth the read.

This may happen to be the best manga series to come out of Weekly Shonen Magazine so far this year.

Gamaran has a rather original plot, despite being set in Feudal Japan; the pacing of the story is well done, the actions are great and it has a set of great characters shown so far.

Even though it may remind readers of a certain manga from WSJ, I can assure you Gamaran is nothing like that series and as far as I know, Gamaran will probably be around for a long while.
