This is one of my favorite shounen-ai/Yaoi mangas. It's one of a very few that has the ability to draw in the reader completely. The innocence and strong underlying emotions expressed in the story is absolutely amazing.

The three-volume story of Kojima Yuki and Nakahara Atsushi is enjoyable and in spite of the dark nature in some areas, sweet. The story largely deals with four social issues ~ mental illness, child abuse, parental expectations, and loneliness. Kojima and Nakahara both question what it means to be an adult and what it would be like to live in adults' world where it seems that it has nothing but pain, disappointment and fear. All the while, they struggle to deal with growing feelings and desire for each other. Although Little Butterfly seems angsty, it has many funny and sweet moments. Highly recommended. Additional note ~ Kojima's mother is so adorable.

there's much more to this story than "OMG CUTE!", so don't be turned off if you're like me and usually try to avoid the sugar shock. it is in fact, not particularly cute at all, though kojima himself certainly qualifies, perky as he is. but nakahara's story is dark and sad; there's nothing cute about it. and kojima is much more than indomitably perky; he really cares, and he goes seriously to bat for nakahara in all sorts of ways; even against his abusive father. there is no sign of the stupid standard yaoi seme/uke thing here, which always makes me happy -- these are two teens who're just starting to figure out things about love and sex, and there are no power plays and no lame crossdressing and references to the uke as "woman", *sigh of relief*. it's a solid coming-of-age story with considerable depth for yaoi.
