Plot:Very interesting and original in it's own way.Basically sth like a hyper upgrade of Inuyasha.Starts a bit slow but unfolds better as time goes by.Sometimes it's a little perplexed without any particular reason though.

Character development:The characters are developed pretty nicely and considering the fact that you will meet more than 60 different characters there is a good management of them. But most of them are your typical shounen ones so no originality here. Also i don't like the shounen syndrome where the protagonist doesn't dirty his hands. What i mean is that Yoshimori is the guy who wants to protect everything but doesn't have the power to do so.So when the situation is sink or swim (when he is dealing with half ayakashi or humans) and knows the risk that if he doesn't kill them sth worst will happen, someone else pops up and does the cleaning job done.Or that some bad guys get away when they can be apprehended.I would rather the series had Masamori, his elder brother as the protagonist who is someone similar to the flame alchemist from FMA rather than the moron Yoshimori. But that's never gonna change.Fighting shounen will and always have a teenage student as a lead character with a million flaws so as the story progresses he gets over them little by little, and not a conscious person.Masamori and Mudou definitely the best 2 characters of the story.

Artwork:Well...Average.Not too detailed on the characteristics of the faces take Yukimura for example. The scenery is ok but also sth not very impressive. But i don't care much since i read manga for the story and not for their artwork.

Be prepared though. This series has a lot of chapters and is a little slow at first.
Also sth tells me that after 342 chapter the ending will suck.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
So instead of ending this stupid curse as the god of 339/15 stated now more characters have to needlessly be sacrificed like Yoshimori's mother 342/18 (although never liked her). The story goes for another moronic shounen ending. If they could plead that God why didn't they ask him to destroy Karasumori in the first place. It's like the whole story crumbles and 340+ chapters were in vain! The mother missed for 10 years, people died at Karasumori, lives where changed and many students were put at risk.Let me guess, the founder will also go unpunished right?

PS: Boo boo boo boo.The ending felt like a waste of time, bad, rushed and inconsistent (meaning the last 10 chapters or so which makes sense if you also read the spoiler above).I felt like I wasted my time reading the whole manga.

I'm not sure why people don't like the slow start. I quite enjoyed it. That said, I hope Kekkaishi comes to an end sometime. It would be very nice to have a good ending to this awesome series.

The only problems I had with it were that Yoshimori spends about the first half being a blundering doof, and the second half being really too powerful for his own good. Especially in the anime, where his tendency to fall over and screw up seems to be somehow magnified a couple hundred times, despite having transcribed right from the manga. However, it's mostly overlookable in the manga.

Kekkaishi is a really interesting series with a really interesting premise. It´s really unpopular compared to others shounen series (Fairy Tail, One Piece, Naruto and Bleach comes to mind) because of it's SLOW start, but it gets really good later on. IF you can struggle the early volumes, you'll not get disappointed.

Shaggy Dog Story of a Shonen manga

It's one of the few mangas I feel compelled to re-read when I feel tired of the current series and it actually has an OK ending. The main problem as I felt was how they handled the MC's Mother and the final scenes since we never understood why she was so powerful. It could've been covered in the last few vol but IDR other than God Wills It and I swear few line changes here and there MC would've had enough power and training to seal it off 100% on his own.

Also, I felt that in a way that it was odd how serious both their families were towards the MC being the heir, and in reality, he's like 14 y.o. and struggling to not fall asleep in class. I get it but moments like it felt adults never considered how being a teen and being forced to fight every night for your life is detrimental but then again it's a manga. Not to mention his older brother (21 y.o.) gives him a long speech about not relying on power alone but then again... he's a kid.

I liked how the manga-ka handled death and the aftermath of loss on the cast where everyone can die and sometimes there's often no real way for MC to cope with constant fighting. I feel like that too many Shonen everyone dies and we move on to the next scene because plot demands it.

I realize now that it's actually 300+ ch series but it's still very readable and the art is still great. There's a lot of key moments where I just focus on the composition of the scene and the story. Also, there's no creepy scenes with MC and Tokine just no. MC is pretty pure-hearted hero as his hobby is baking cake castles and I liked how the manga-ka handled his one-sided crush that it never goes over board.

FWIW: I watched the anime several years ago and it follows the manga faithfully and I think the battles look much faster in motion so JIC you wanted to see it in a full effect.

Also the Kekkaishi battle system actually made sense in I could understand how people could focus and rely on it unlike a lot of other manga where it's STRENGTH OF WILL = POWER UPs.

Final Thoughts: I have to admit the final vol introduced way too many characters and it would've been much better if they just focused on the MC's family and Tokine's family instead of splintering into side antagonists. I started to feel tired as I realized yet another new character is introduced and how it tied to the main story.

Also, if they had cut down 1/3 of the story and removed the Shadow org plot it'd be much more concise and less confusing but dreams.

Solid plotline from start to finish with an actual ending. Interesting story. Plot twists and turns, but the mangaka managed to keep the integrity of the story intact. One thing though is that the story doesn't focus on the MC in battles.

Great start till the fall of Kuroboro, after that I lost interest considerably both from the story and chars, luckily it gets better again in the final volumes in the escapation of the conflict in the Urakai and the unfolding of Karasumori's story.
Overall it was interesting and it's nice to have a long action story with a proper ending for a change.

Great manga, all the way through. I didnt care for the last chapter, not because the ending sucked but rather the main characters only get 3 pages of the "ending". Kinda annoying. Otherwise was a great work, could easily have continues or have a spin off if the author chose to.

I can see why some would not like it (my sisters judge it because they don't like the art and the way the heroes start out fighting with "boxes") but I think this is definitely one of the better series out there. It does start out really slow and it can occasionally be a little stupid but as the series goes on it gets much more complex and interesting. The characters really flesh out and become human and the villains become less flat. The morally gray areas of politics are also introduced. What I like the best is that the characters do find out more unique ways of using these "boxes" and change their form, specialty, strength, etc, and their ability to use them diverges. The main character is funny and yes, naturally strong though he can't get his head in the game at first,

and although I don't particularly like Yoshimori's brother, he's intriguing and I can understand his jealousy. I also love the Urukai characters he commands. Especially Sen and... what's-his-name, the amiable (usually) vampire with the squinty eyes and the kid with the paper bag over his head, lol.
So yes, it's exciting, with a good plot, many loveable characters, and I even liked the ending, which for me is pretty rare.

I had a hard time getting into this at first. So much so that the first time I attempted reading i gave up within the first 15 chapters.

However, some time later i decided id give it another go because of its high rating, and boy am I glad i did. It starts off slow so you have to stick with it, but once it starts moving you can get hooked easy.

Read it.
