A Masterpiece

To describe Monster in brief, that would be what I would say. Shifting from intense to confusing to disturbing to depressing and all over again over and over, it starts off a bit weak, but picks up steam fast. Johan is one of the most intriguing and disturbed characters of any manga I have read, and whenever you aren't waiting for him to get capped in the face, you are hoping Tenma and Nina don't. All the characters are very well-developed, and you feel a connection with many of them. If you liked Death Note, this is probably what you want to read next.

Enredo e Narrativa: 10/10

Personagens: 10/10

Arte e Estilo: 8.90/10

Mundo e Configuração: 9.37/10

Tema e Mensagem: 10/10

Desenvolvimento Pacing: 10/10

Conclusão e Satisfação: 9.16/10

Nota geral: 9.63/10

*in english*
I'll be very straightforward that I read this manga purely on recommendation, and I can say without any difficulty that it is simply a masterpiece with a totally worthy ending. I can say without any problem that this is one of the best seinen and investigative manga I've ever seen, but now without prolonging, let's evaluate each aspect individually.

Starting with the plot and narrative, it's totally the supreme positive point of this manga, as it grabbed my attention from the very first moment and this remained until the final moment with that last shocking twist. We can see how the narrative is simply brilliant from the moment the manga had the initial meticulous preparation where the "unnamed monster" was supposed to have died, simply the narrative reached its peak even at the beginning, making several doubts arise and holding the readers' attention right from the start, also without even mentioning that the narrative is so impeccable that there simply isn't any plot hole or even a loose end, having said that I give it a score of 10/10 without any remorse.

If the plot of the work is already perfect then I will now talk about the characters, and I make it clear that it is 10/10, all of them were super well developed from the beginning, were well worked and correctly fitted into their respective roles in the work, they also have their own style with their own stories which in some cases are very sympathetic and without a doubt to be proud of, in short it is simply perfect, and of course I will mention Johan Liebert in this topic which without a doubt is one of the best antagonists I have ever seen.

Now talking about the art and style, it is very good and satisfying, however it is not memorable although it does have its peak and positive points such as the firm stroke, however it is not perfect so I will give it a score of 8.90.

The world and setting present in the work was chosen in a simple way to facilitate the investigative theme so I would say it was a simple but very well done and planned giving it a score of 9.37.

The manga addresses various philosophical themes and messages at various moments where most of them are simply well fitting to the theme, such as the doubt of "if you knew you would save a monster, would you still save it?" These questions and doubts present in the work are simply spectacular because of that I will easily give it a 10.

The development of the manga is prolonged but in a deliberate way that allows a median fluidity for the reader, however with the air of mystery and plot twist in each chapter this pacing development gains more "shape" having a broader space to develop all the aspects of the work thus totaling once again the maximum score of 10/10 for development pacing.

Concluding, I can say that I was totally satisfied something that surprised me because I am not a fan of mystery, not to mention that the conclusion was perfect interconnecting the last chapter with the first where it possibly talks about the names of the children, the solution to all the puzzles of the work is a very satisfactory ending with that perfect suicide plan undoubtedly the best arc of the story and certainly why you will love the monster manga just enjoy this work with your clear head and without a doubt you will like it more than me, rating 9.16 for Conclusion and Satisfaction.

And calculating then through the arithmetic mean we reach a result of 9.63

Overrated but okay

There's a lot of disappointment awaiting you if you go in expecting a masterpiece (from the get-go, the characters and situations are incredibly cartoonish and it never really rises above this) but if you set aside any expectation of exploration of some of the deeper themes Monster dredges up, you can have an okay thriller. It misses the mark in being a missive with a developed thesis on guilt and responsibility in favor of presenting you with a more pulpy action narrative, and some of it gets to the point of eye-rolling stupidity, but, for better or worse, this is a work that people will be talking about for a long time to come, and it's not so bad to spend a week reading it at your leisure.

It leaves you with question as you read from chapter to chapter. And the author make a great story telling, like 20th century boys, the mystery revealed one by one as the chapter goes..

'Monster' sureley lived to the expectations. As thought, its story was interesting and pretty enjoyable. Dont expect it to be of a shounen category. It has its own genre. You will enjoy it surely.

This is one of those manga that transcends categorization. I can't really see it as horror (at least not in the literary sense), as the story's primary motive is not to thrill. If anything, the best comparison I can come up with is to 40's film noire; The Maltese Falcon in particular comes to mind. Just like with Humphrey Bogart's iconic work, Monster keeps you in the dark until the very end. You will suspect, but you won't really be able to grasp the whole picture until the final confrontation, which will, just as with the Maltese Falcon, still leave questions unanswered.

Postscript: By the way, I read this manga in one go between the hours of 8pm and 5am. These conditions, I believe, are absolutely perfect for the macabre ambiance of Monster. If you are a fast reader, like I am (i.e. 18 chapters an hour, or around one chapter every three or so minutes), give it a shot.

A story that takes you on a wonderful ride filled with mystery, action, and really makes your mind work. I was so drawn to the story and couldn't stop reading. It's a real page turner. One thing I really admire is character development, and by the end of this story, I fell in love with many of them, and feel some sort of connection.

I have read a few of Urasawa's works and I enjoyed everyone, especially Monster. Such an interesting story, and the way the plot is interwoven is amazing. READ THIS SERIES...such a story, themes, and characters shouldn't be missed out on smile

This manga was the best thriller I've ever read. Honestly the first few pages were boring but this manga picks up and eventually it all ties together...
If you enjoy seinen, psychological, mystery, and drama this is the best one.
I suggest you read it now before it's completely licensed, you'd regret it if you pass this!
It's up to you to figure out who's the true monster.

Yohoo.. this one's really exciting!
I like Monster better than 20th century boys, although 20th century boys is also interesting....
But Monster thrilled me! Complicated story, psycho, dark, and to the very end.... it's still enchanting.
I give it 10.

The anime adaptation strictly follows the manga, there are no deviations, no annoying fillers and it ends just as the manga ends. As many have said before me, this is a true masterpiece. Read the manga, watch the anime or do both! This is something you cannot miss.
