I couldn't stomach 2 chapters, I had to stop. The violence is awful...OMG >< I really wish I hadn't seen that...god that was awful.
The manga (from what I've just read) is actually quite 'good' but...the sexual violence my god.

This isn't actually based on a true event is it embarrassed

I read this for the eroguro.... I truly do like it, but this story is so completely wretched and depressing, I was bawling all of the way through. Sure there was gore and copious amounts of rape and all, but I was so absolutely depressed by what was happening that the violent imagery was just on the sidelines, to be honest I hardly even noticed it.

I guess this should be expected though, even this author's guro art book, with no narration and dialogue at all made me feel major second hand despair just by looking at it. This was exactly the same.

if you're looking for something to enjoy and kill the time, i suggest you look elsewhere. this is the kind of stuff that professors can write dozens of essays on. although the concept would be ridiculous nowadays, it wouldn't have been uncommon during the early 20th century. the artist weaves the story and tone in such a way that you can't help but feel sympathy for the orphans. this is definitely a masterpiece that shows the power of visual imagery.

I'm really into tragic disturbing stories but this was the only time in my life when I was really SCARED to turn the page. You know, the most dreadful thing in this manga that the story looks absolutely realistic (considering what did the Fascists do during the 2WW), so I couldn't just forget it telling myself: ough, just another Japanese horror fantasy.
and the art, it was absolutely unique and beautiful.

This story has so much depth and quite a significant message i couldn't finish it in one night.
I think the mere thought of this happening wrenched my guts and i felt... horrid..
This manga is definitely not to be taken on a light note and the different stories that all seem to end in that understandable cliff hanger silence just cuts deep.

woow... don't think i have the guts to read these type anymore, the story is just horrible and sad but so powerful.

seriously...this just left me with this depressing feeling like my will to live is being taken away from me...i have a very active imagination and while im reading this half of my mind is like putting myself in those girls shoes <i know not a good habit...and the bad thing it usually doesnt happen when im reading happy shoujo romances!!> and another thing is im a girl! the mangaka is such a genius for creating something like this but hes a twisted genius...

im only intrigued because many people left very "intriguing" comments...for once i want to believe once again...actually when i read Battle Royale it didnt made me sick...but this one did...maybe because i can stand murder and betrayal but never rape! <and their doing it in groups! damn it!!>

the last part was the past that i loved the most...the divine retribution...and it shows that the man <lolzzzi thought that its a woman at first...Nicola> behind it all is still human afterall...and some chapter is good...but ironic...i dont know what to ay anymore...

this is a masterpiece but ity made me really sick and im not sure if this really did happen because it wasnt really stated...so im giving it an 8.5

im not an eroguro person , but as someone else has mentioned this story seems to almost be a ... idk, homage seems to be inappropriate here, but it definitely echoes back to the WWII euphemistically-named "comfort women" and their experiences, transposed to 19th century europe.

I know everyone's giving all these depressing reviews and stuff but to me it was just okay. I found the sketchy art to be the most disturbing. Overall, I think it would've made a better novel.
