I abosolutely loved this manga...and then I got to chapter 7 (I think)....the problem is
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
many of the "evil" characters turn out good. "well, whats wrong with that?: you ask "isnt that a great plot twist?
well, 2 pts 1) the mangaka uses this "plot twist" sooooo many times that the story line practicalt becomes a pretzel-its just reeaally irritating after a while 2) many of the evil characters that turned good-realy ARE evil and no amount of "oh its not his fault" fluff takes that point away-certainly not when this is guy number 7 who was evil and seen the light.

this also affects the believability of the characters immensely. take for example this doctor who experimented on the creatures. terrible right? well, it just so happens that one of the creatures that he experimented on falls in love with him...not because he complained or did anything contrary to his superiors -but because his eyes looked pained...as he flipped the switch to shoot a poison laced 200lb metal ball at her chest.awww how romantic.

other than my very large rant, if you can get past the repetitveness of the characters as well as their questionable believabilty, then you should be able to enjoy a pretty original manga with an engrossing plot.

The manga is all about what happens when someone emotionally unstable possess a insta-kill weapon. It's a almost perfect combination of drama and action, a real worth reading piece.
Great storyline, great characters, great art.

The only thing that bothered me is that, in the end, lucy get too much of an awesome-uber-godly powers and owns humanity. That was TOO much, and i didn't find it necessary.

I liked the manga more than the anime, the manga was more detailed and had a better storyline all around. The ending was so depressing, but you feel better when Kota finds what he was waiting for.

Sure the art work isnt the best, the characters sometimes are to stiff, and there is alot of violence. But I still think this is one of the most breath taking manga I ever have read. The plot is excellent, and everything is well thought. The story really touched me, and the ending almost made me cry.

Read this manga for its darn enjoyable story, and if you manege too see past the violance and the lousy art work, I think you ll be able to love it as much as I did.

A very interesting story, but way too cruel...

Plot/Story:- It's about a girl who isn't a normal human and is in fact the 1st major step in the evolution process. She escapes from a research facility and ends up living with some boy and girl.

Artwork:- The manga looks really basic that even I could draw the characters better, because it tries to make the girls look super cute. Although it's pretty disturbing when these cute girls are ripping limbs off each other or off other people .

Final Thoughts:- The manga seems to tell the story better than the anime and it actually finishes the story however thanks to the slow a$$ scanlation group I've only read 9 out of the 12 Volumes. One thing I can say is that the cruel stuff that happens to the girls makes me sick.

This is certainly a very dark manga and one that is hard for many readers for a number of reasons. Not to mention that, in the end, it is a tragedy. And yet, it is good. Scary and hard, but good. Do not be discouraged if you find your self unable to continue reading. It is okay. If you put it down, you don't even have to pick it up again. But do not call it bad, for it is not. It is simply dark, to a point that it's almost unbearable.

You can't simply describe this series as 'good' or 'bad'. Like the characters themselves, whether it's acceptable or not depends heavily on your point of view.

The characters in this story are mostly psychotic, and irrational to the extremes so what happens might or might not make any sense to you. You could even say they're all idiots, and undoubtedly they all paid for that one moment of hesitation. You must have seen a lot of stories where people are supposed to forgive and sympathize with a girl who's born with unwanted supernatural powers that threaten normal people, and a happy ending is achieved. Well,
Spoiler (highlight to view)
the aesop from this story is that you're supposed to shoot her in the face. Multiple times. Along with anyone who tries to defend her. As buddhism tells you, a man who commits murders and then tries to save others in the end must still go to hell (which is not eternal) to pay for his crime before he can be rewarded in heaven. You wonder why no one in this fictional Japan is familiar with that concept.

This is the only manga that has made me feel sick. It starts out so innocent...and then....argh.

It's not the gore either, it's just that every single time you start to feel happy for one of the characters, they get hit in the face with a brick called "Reality".

So depressing, but so good smile
