The artwork in this manga is very beautiful and stunning. The attention to detail is also very profound. In the story, the plot has yet to develop (it doesn't drag or drone on though) but the little anecdotes of incidents of the two main characters face never fail to entertain me. This is a very soft, delicate, yet deep story (not to heavy either). It touches into further society and you can feel the sense of atmosphere even though the aspects of the world are just skimmed. Don't worry, however, it is an adorable read as well. The romance is evident and is a central part of the story but it doesn't take away from the actual plot.
I must also add that the synopsis is only the outline of the FIRST chapter. So basically, it doesn't do the actual manga any justice. Ignore the summary and GO AND READ IT!!! It's so AMAZING!
Highly recommended even to non-shoujo readers as long as you are lenient on certain shoujos or not so picky...like me. ;)
This is all personal commentary by the way. If you read it or are going to read it and didn't feel the way I did, that's okay. I'm just weird like that.

Sweet manga had me smiling at the end. Just perfect for a late night read.

I have been a fan of this mangaka for a while. Once again, I was not disappointed! The art is simple and cute. The characters are lovable but not two-dimensional. For a shoujo, this manga deals with some pretty heavy topics (being sold by your family, some trials of being a geisha, and the hardship of life for average Japanese people during WWII). But it manages do to so without being dark and depressing. Butterfly is a great heroine - she is happy and can be dense, but she is also strong and not constantly crying everywhere. Overall, it's a great slice of life that will leave you feeling happy at the end.

The manga is pretty good. It has a casual way of introducing the romance between the two characters, and it is surprisingly believable. It has its share of melodrama (just the right amount) for a short story.

But, the best part of the manga was that it made me realize just how lucky I am to live in the 21st Century, to not be affected by war, unlike some Middle Eastern countries.

Such a sweet bitter story that brings tears to my eyes. I have now read it twice and each time is just as breathtaking. May be a shoujo, but her situation, his life and the lives around them are all so layered with sadness and despair that its incredible. The setting is also fabulous as it shows the destruction of war. It's so sad and tear jerking that you must prepare ahead of time and get your tissues!
What a gem!
PS: I absolutely adored Matsuura, his darkness and bitterness is so intriguing, as well as his views on society. He sent shivers up my spine...

I really cried at the last chapter!!! I really thought that Chinatsu...okay, I won't spoil it for you so figure it out yourself. I was really happy with the ending. Oh the twins are so cute!! This manga is really a must read! The story is very simple, yet feels so tragic like. Now I can feel how those people in the olden days feel like when they go through this kind of hard times. It's so sad. Very sad! It kinda makes me feel thankful that there's no war now. Really, try this manga!!

Normally, I rarely pick up any historical series. I sometimes got the feeling that those series were making fun of history which I really love. Others made me feel that mangaka put historical element just to draw beautiful outfit. Even though, there are some great historical series. This one is one of them. It's not perfect for me because I can predict most part (like other typical shoujo). But the post-marriage part is really unpredictable (except the ending), and it's surprisingly good. I really love the historical element in this manga. WW II is my farvourite event in history.

for me this is little masterpiece, i have read my share of manga, and this catch me from the beginning, the art, the story, everything is amazing... And man, this made me cry so much i tough my heart was not going to be able to take...
Is a most read!!!

I cannot begin to express the emotions that came out of me when reading this. Although it is a very short story, I swear those 9 chapters will impact you even more than a manga with a 100 volumes.
