As an art lover, I judge manga by their art. So the beginning art doesn't appeal to me. But with the recommendations from my online friends, I began reading it with a little hesitation. Alas, another manga I judge by the cover. The story was hilarious. The characters made it even more hilarious. And the first chapter didn't help either with that last line that literally wowed me away. I got hooked afterward.

We first start out with Kumiko Yamaguchi, who began her teaching career at an all-boys high school. Unfortunately, she got the worst classroom of all, full of delinquents and troublemakers. The students greeted her with pranks and tough-attitude in trying to scare her, yet they have yet to know that she was actually the heir to one of Tokyo's most powerful yakuza clan, the Kuroda Group.

The art does improve as the story goes on, so that's a big plus. Like I said, don't judge this manga by its art. The storyline and the characterizations are the 2 powerful force that helps pave this manga onward. I got tons of laughter (that my family is wondering what is their crazy daughter doing in the middle of the night), a couple of tears, and tons more of smiles as I read this manga to the end. This is one of the classic manga that I'll recommend to all of my friends.

It reminded me a bit of GTO with a female lead. (And I love GTO!!!)
But while GTO is, at times, deeper and Onizuka's students have graver problems, in my oppinion, Gokusen is funnier. Mostly because of Yankumi's family.

The art, while not great, is ok. But in my oppinion, the art is secondary to the story, anyway.

Its a pretty decent series. The art in the beginning is rough, but don't let that put you off because by the time the series ends its evolved and its really nice and polished. Its like night and day. Early on the stories are a bit repetitive, but again it gets better and also more polished as well. Its basically an all around fun series, you can't go wrong with it.

The Anime was not too bad either, but it doesn't go all the way to the end of the manga.

i love manga with humor, romance, tons of action, and a fun story line. this reminds me of Yankee kun to megane chan but ALOT BETTER!!! i never laughed so much from a manga and felt moved at the same time! the story line is consecutive but there's always something new that makes the series such fun! and you'll love the romance in this manga...it's not too much or too little, but just right...you'll really see it through the actions and words of the characters. and i love strong female characters both mind and body and the lead in this manga is great! she's funny and strong!! READ THIS MANGA! you'll love it!!!

=] Hilarious, interesting, touching, one of my all time favourites.
=[ This shouldnt really be tagged as a romance, there was a tiny bit towards the end but it came across as slightly forced. However, the couple is quite adorable ]

This is the second most entertaining manga after wallflower. I love the heroine. No sappiness anywhere. Although I do wish that the mangaka had added another chapter showing about their life a few years later. It was so totally fun!

Although many don't like the art, or, rather, don't think much of it in the beginning, compared to some mangas, it wasn't too bad. It does get better as you read on, and I must say that the panelling/framing of the manga is a strong point. The number of frames on a page was often only three or four but the story still moved at a good pace.
The heroine was strong, she fought for her students and believed in them, and she wasn't "beautiful" (although the artwork didn't really allow for beautiful people...). The only thing I could have wished for was slightly more romance before the series ended. I know there were stories after the main series finished, but (being the romantic that I am) I would've liked to see them properly together.
A word on the j-drama: personally, having watched the drama first, then read the manga, I liked it. They captured most of the characters', and certainly the heroine's, personalities. I would recommend it.
In short, I would recommend this; I read it in three days

Okay, it was a really weird story, but I think it was great! I love that she's not cutsie and pathetic like most girls in manga. And I'm in LOVE with Shin! He's so much fun!

If you haven't read this, you should.

Man This is the best shojo I've ever read!! It's really sweet and cute and funny and romantic too. The first few chapters may not be all that great and the art was poor but the story soon gets more and more interesting that I can't get my eyes off it and the art got much better too.
I strongly recommend this to all of you!!! You gotta try this man or you're wasting your life!
