Description
This could be any girl. Imagine being a heroine of a love story. Hatori also believed that one day she would get married to her childhood friend, Rita.

But that's not how the world works! This is a hilarious comedy that honestly paints a painful unrequited love story of this young girl!

HEAR ME OUT
by Bebe~

Rating: 8.0  / 10.0
Okay, for all of you out there who has already read this manga, you might be thinking WHAT IN THE F*CK'S TARNATION IS GOING ON HERE. For everyone who hasn't read it yet, give it a try before you let other people's review convince you it isn't good. Yea, I was cursing at this manga when I was reading it but I thought it was kind of special. Not your everyday cliche.. At first I was like what the hell is the mangaka doing.. but I started to notice the meaning was deeper. Maybe she was trying to show us that when we're at that age, we were reckless and confused. Rita was confused. Hatori was confused. And that's why they two timed. They didn't understand what their really meant. HEAR ME OUT.

What caught me first about this manga was the drawing. The heroine isn't always pretty. She can look so ridiculous but it's still so funny. It gets me cracking every time. But as time went on, I REALLY WANTED TO FCKING SHAKE HER. The number 1 character that I like the most is the supporting best friend "Nakajima". She's the smartest one out of the bunch but no one ever takes her advice..it's maddening

Hatori: This crazy woman! WTH IS WRONG WITH HER. WHY CAN'T SHE GIVE UP. I mean I thought she was so strong for not giving up at first but he is a TOTAL jerk..He doesn't even LOVE her as a woman. More like a sister. They both don't understand that. When she finally..FINALLY starts falling in love with Hiromitsu..Rita was like..I love you..REALLY? FCKING REALLY NOW?
Rita: HE IS SO SELFISH. HE CAN'T MAKE UP MIND. He doesn't care about anyone else's happiness but his own...knowing Hatori will ALWAYS be there for him no matter what and at his beck and call..-_- He's just a lonely, cruel boy
Hiromitsu: My only one complaint is that he was messing around at first..but he fell so in love with her in the end (so far)...ugh I hope Hatori ends up with him or I'll punch a b*tch. She's really stupid with her feelings -_-

Potential but...

It had potential in the beginning but after reading it for a few more chapters (like past chapter 6 or 7)...it just went downhill. Every character in this manga is horrible. They are all terrible people. Hatori is an idiot, selfish and mean. Adachi is weak and can't do stuff on her own even though it seems like she might be the 'strong' one. Rita is a two-timing bastard who can't decide on his feelings. Wants to stay by Adachi but doesn't want Hatori to go anywhere else.

I wish Hatori would just fall out of love with Rita and go for someone else. Maybe that would make the story better but at the moment, it's complete crap.

Sometimes, its difficult to come across a good shoujo and this one, not a very good shoujo. There are better out there but I'll continue reading it to see the outcome (even if I mostly just skim the chapters)

I really enjoyed this series in the beginning. The subversion of shoujo cliches is executed successfully and I appreciated that Hatori was a human character. She's probably not likeable to everyone, but I liked her, and how she's shameless in what she wanted. It makes her more human. And if nothing else, her facial expressions are always entertaining. I also enjoyed her interactions with her ever-suffering friend Nakajima and the other love interest, Hiromitsu. Both ended up being necessary and sympathetic characters. Rita, on the other hand, turned out to be an irredeemable asshole. The more page time he had, the crappier he got and the more I wanted to burn him. (Compare and contrast with Hiromitsu, who demonstrated that he had the capacity to change for the better). I thought that was okay, though, because I could deal with Rita if his assiness was used to fuel Hatori's character development. But then everything that I thought this series was building up to got chucked down the gutter. Whoops. Just when I thought this series (read: Rita) could no longer raise my blood pressure. No such luck.

Maybe it's because my hopes were misplaced, it just became so exhausting to read by the end. That said, if you can just get into the zone of no-longer-caring, it's not so bad. By the time you get to the haphazardly slapped-together ending, it's just easier not to be disappointed. It's unfortunate that a funny series with an unconventional heroine ended being a shitty romance about emotionally stunted teenagers that don't know how to respect each other, but what can you do.

I still give it 7/10 for the number of times it made me laugh.

EDIT: Revised, b/c I noticed how messy my original comment was.

Original, some downfalls

This story has achieved levels of originality, but its price is beginning to show.

I agree, the characters are worsening the more we see their personalities. I don't deny that. Still, I take most of it as successful parodying. I doubt the mangaka ever had the intention to showcase ideal heros/heroines and love interests alike. If it were to be flowery shoujo idealism or even realistic, it wouldn't be original as it is (for better or for worse). Hatori is probably the only main shoujo character I've seen that's a selfish hard-to-relate antagonist.

Though I don't like the distasteful personalities of Rita, Adachi or Hatori, I'm glad to see a different light shed on fictional characters in common context - light rarely shown, if not warped to make us like and dislike certain characters more.

Depending on your perspective - it's either a parody or a crapheap of disappointing MCs. I'd say the former.

I'm still questioning how things will end up but in all, will read it with my full attention to the end.

Oh, Hatori...

I really liked this series at first. Hatori's facial expressions were really funny and I liked how she was slightly self-aware. I could really relate to Hatori; every girl has that mean-out-to-get-you side and feels like their the best match for their crush especially in high-school. I was hoping it'd be more about how she gets past the fact she's not his heroine anymore and internally struggles with moving on to finding a new love...

But then, she confessed. Cue the love-triangle and tears. Rita went from being tolerable to being a total sleaze-bag. This manga would improve a lot if Hatori falls out of love with Rita and discovers what a jerk he is. She gets more and more pathetic as the story goes on, and become less and less relatable.

I hope Hatori does NOT end up with Rita

I feel like Rita is pretty much using her, well not even using, more like he won't ever like her the way Hatori likes him.

I want Hatori in the end to realize that she doesn't need Rita to be happy and maybe hook up with Kousuke (if she has to...I'd prefer if she didn't pair up with anyone). Her friend doesn't seem interested in anyone, either, so why does she need to get a bf?

Edit: This story would be AWESOME if Chapter 16 were the last chapter, but it's not. Too bad (I've read the ending spoilers)...

Wait a minute, the ending TOTALLY makes sense if you read what's on the tin can. It's called "Failure of a Heroine", so Hatori is supposed to make the WRONG choice. This manga is intended to be frustrating. So it is a proper parody after all. Of how in many shoujos, the girl picks the guy who is unsuited to be in a relationship/abusive/unavailable, etc.

Special enough to make it interesting

I think this manga is showing us a more in-depth of a side-character in a manga. Hatori's new girlfriend represent the usual main character - shy, not so pretty or special. Hatori is the mean, out-to-get the heroine rival who's also childhood freind with the hero, who is a bad boy. Seems familiar? I think this kind of plot makes it unique and worth reading since it's so different. this is probably what you're either gonna love or hate. The art is okay which is a plot and the scans are well done. Hopefully there will be more.

Not that typical shoujo

Maybe I haven't read enough shoujo like this before... but the first few chapters made me thought I had the story all figured out, that the hero will eventually fall for the heroine who waits for him. Then again... when I went on and read the summaries for the manga up till chapter 21 - it was a rather unexpected turn out..
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the heroine's friend, Nakajima is now also kinda involved in this love polygon, probably kicking Adachi out of the picture. Hatori's started dating Kousuke and is visibly in love with him although Rita recently came clean with his feelings.. he actually realised he liked her when she confessed in the first few chapters.

Basically it's totally unexpected and I am really anticipating how the author wraps this up - hopefully not too ugly, and I urge you guys to read on if you think this looks cliché, as it definitely isn't and I hope there will be more scanlations in the future!!
