Great Series

New Waves picks up right where The Breaker ended but in my opinion its just not as enthralling as the first series--its still great, don't get me wrong. The fights are all drawn very well and many of the characters are likable. The protagonist, Shi-Woon, has the kind of personality that makes you want to see him progress as much as you want him to win (kind of like a Naruto type character). The story moves along at a decent pace but it does slow down a bit at times. All together though, a manga worth following.

Oh god, this manga makes me so anxious for the next chapter, that I'm going nuts. Seriously, it almost sucks your body and soul if you start reading it.
It was a bit slow paced at the start (compared with the prequel), but is getting so awesome latelly, that I literally wait the whole week to read it...
At chapter 40+ It gets so awesome, that I simply forgot how dumb it was at the chapters 10~20 =]

Not as good as the first so far.

Original Breaker was very good. This one seems to be slow picking up. Nothing particularly fantastic or rubbish so far except for the art, which is very good overall, but it's struggling to live up to its predecessor so far, I feel. Stay tuned though, it seems to be upping the gears from now (Ch.53) onwards.

Revision: (Ch.97) Still plodding along. Kinda average by now, one of the main draws of the original manga was the actual teacher, the Nine-Arts Dragon, and his out of control character and *his* epic fight scenes, as well as his relationship with his disciple. Now that he's out of the picture, there haven't really been as many good relationships to carry this manhwa, or much good humour as the original had.

(Chapter 104) Dropping it for now. It's so mediocre and average it's not worth it. 100+ chapters in and no improvements, no hook, no depth, Shioon stopped being likeable once Nine-Arts Dragon disappeared - those two were a great master/student duo in the original, now that it's been broken up ... meh. Plus not enough Nine-Arts Dragon. Obviously.

My personal favorite

Out of all of the Manhwa/Manga/Comics that I have read my absolute favorite has to be this one. The reason being that the author has a unique approach which would cause others to view this manhwa negatively. It is something that you either hate or love.

The characters are like-able and their individual character-arcs are intriguing. Watching them grow and mature is one of the many reasons why I like this manhwa.

I must warn whoever reads this by stating that it is terribly slow in terms of action scenes in an attempt to create build-up. This occurs in both the prequel and The Breaker New Waves. However that very complaint actually is something that makes this so brilliant. By having long-periods of time without action there is a certain flow that is present that is like no other.

I would most definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading and/or manga.

I really can't say much about it.
I was a bit disappointed because I jumped from reading The Breaker to The Breaker: New Wave--the anticipated action did not happen.
The beginning was excruciatingly slow. It's not until 40-something chapter that he started to fight back for real... I could understand it since his ki-center was damaged... and he stubbornly tried to stay out of the martial art world like his master wanted him too.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
New groups will appear, calling themselves the disciples of the Nine Arts Dragon (Shiwoon's master).. but I think its a fake nine dragon--anyways, they are the group that is creating chaos around the normal world.
New people will emerge as a result Shiwoon's receiving of the phoenix medallion, giving him the title of the chief of the Sunwoo clan.
The master won't be around much, if at all. He popped up a bit in 1-2 pages here and there. But this story is mainly focusing on what's happening around Shioon (in contrast with the previous installment which focuses, in my opinion, on the master and his motives to destroy the alliance.
Dead person may not stay dead.

It may not look like it at first, but Shiwoon WILL get stronger.. he just doesn't take that many initiative to do so.

And for those who are new to this series... yes, it would be best to read The Breaker first before reading this. Otherwise, LOTS of things won't make sense to you. smile

The art is awesome as always.

Has the same pace as the first but don't let the total number of chapters fool you the breaker was released monthly and new waves is weekly. Also, it says that it's korean but you still read it right to left like a manga.

Having read and gone crazy when Shioon became strong and beat the shit out of the bully in The Breaker, I must say, !@#$%$!!!! I waited 40ish chapters for him to become strong, and now I have to continue to wait in this series -.-
TBH, the beginning is sooooo slow, but stick to it, and hopefully, it'll pay off.

I must admit I´m a bit Shocked at the people who Complain that it´s SLOW. I mean, really? My dear bunnies, have you even read the prequel? Do you have an idea how slow it was until it finally came into the story and moved to it´s climax? Well, by your comments, I don´t think you know. So let me tell you how it is instead.

The Breaker ( the Prequel of New Waves ) took approximately 30-40 chapters to intruduce the characters, trying to build a climax and making the story interesting. Yes that´s slow, compared to other manga that start feeding us the whole story from the beginning, but I think that´s the charm of this manga. The lack of immediate progression makes the story have a nice flow to it and you can easily get into the story without thinking that too much is going on. Wich is good, because I personally hate when things happen too fast or when too much is going on ( I have a very popular manhwa in mind, but I´m not gonna mention it this time because I would probably get eaten up by it´s fans *shivers* )

Anyhow, it´s too early to judge this manga. I don´t know if it´s gonna be almost as long as the prequel ( the breaker was a bit too short in my opinion ), but I hope it doesn´t and considering that this is released by web I think that this will probably be longer. Either way, so far, the manga is good and in the latest chapters it´s getting better.

i loved "the breaker" and followed this one because of it but seriously so damn slow its a second edition it should have no need to explain so much and there should be more speed. just read ch 42 its crazy that it managed to give almost no information and the guy isnt even close to being ready to fight even though it has about half of all chs that the breaker did
