Holding on to the 'old VK'

Read some comments about VK here as I thought that I couldn't be the only one that this have gotten from one of the best mangas I've read to something.. like this..

It was a fantastic manga at start. I fell very hard for the beautiful art and all the good-looking vampires. The story was a bit complicated but I thought that it would all turn out in a simple, good way.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Many of you thought that VK became boring after Yuki turned into a Vampire. For me, I thought it was even more exciting than ever.

But after that.. When they started to live together, I had high expectations. But No. Everything was going downhill. Kaname started to be a creep. Yuki was doing boring stuff all around. She seemed so passive in everything that was happening. She said that she cared about Kaname, but it didn't look like that. Neither that Kaname cared about her. And Zero's stuff did not catch my attention and everything is losing it's meaning.

VK has lost its plot. So everyone are just walking around, doing weird stuff. More mysteries are coming up and almost none of them are getting solved in my opinion.

I don't actually know why I keep reading the new chapters. I guess it is for the art. But I kinda lost hope about that it's getting better. Since the whole manga is pretty depressive; why would it be a happy ending?

But because of my deep 'love' for the early VK, I can't rate it lower than 10. Even if it's not near 10 right now.

Worse as time goes by

This was the first manga I fell in love with. I used to wait for this to come out such was my devotion to VK.

Then it started gettint worse and worse to the point that I totally stopped reading it. Came back just to read the 20 or so chapters I missed till the last one. Wish I didn't actually. Nothing makes much sense anymore and it seems really dragged to exhaustion. And the end is ridiculous. I feel it's a waste that she chose to do things this way.

Used to consider this my favorite manga ever, not anymore, not even close. And it's a shame.

...What happened?

What happened VK?

The begginging half was fine but...

There are so many issues going on now in this manga and normally that wouldnt be a bad thing right? Well, not in VK's case. Theres all this talk of conflicts and love issues, etc., etc., that its sad that the only thing that im vaguely interested in is how many words can they shove into one speech bubble before it just looks like a jumbled mess of letters.

Between the boredom and the millions of speech bubbles (and wow, is 'speech' taking to a more literal sense in this manga) explaining mass amounts of 'important' imformation about whatever issues, I just couldnt take it anymore. I found myself skimming through most of the story. It got to the point where I had no idea what the hell was going on. So like the inpatient person I am, I dropped it. Instead of feeling interested in whatever kaname was 'speeching' about I felt more like I was being read a 500 page essay that could easily be summerized in 4 sentences. Manga should have ended with the anime. Though I cant say I enjoyed that ending either.

Starts out so great...and.then...

And then it just turns boring and tedious and altogether terrible.

I too loved Merupuri, but this isn't even half as good as that was. Once the first giant arc is over and the big twist happens, everything just goes completely downhill from there. And the incest angle is just...ugh. I love taboo as much as the next person, but there's something especially creepy about how it's played out in this manga. Maybe because NO ONE seems to point it out. They act like it's just common place.

I just feel like it's being dragged out for no particular reason. We all know Yuki is going to end up with Zero at some point because he's just the main guy. So if we could get on with that, that would just be loooovely.

Disappointing

Vampire Knight is one of those endlessly long stories that are gettting more and more boring and clichéd by the time.

I loved Hino Matsuri's Merupuri. It was a cute, fantastic story full of cliffhangers that always kept me in suspense. When I started reading Vampire Knight, I expected an intriguing, authentic, dark and even more suspenseful manga, but what I have got is somewhat disappointing.

The two main vampires, Zero and Kaname were pretty interesting in the beginning, but after a while, Zero's neverending self-pity and cold attitude and Kaname's predictable reactions and typical vampire behavior started getting me on my nerves. As for Yuki, she is an ordinary, powerless girl you can find in the most shoujo mangas. She has been simply annoying and dull from the start.

Although the concept of the story sounds promising, it is at least as tedious as the characters. The twist are boring, plus there are a host of mulling and pondering in the story that always make me want to jump to the next chapter. I guess Hino Matsuri herself is extremely bored with her "masterpiece".

All in all, the whole manga is a great disappointment. The drawing style is amazing as expected from the mangaka, but the story and the characters have got no potential. I give it a three because of the eye candy and the good start, and try to avoid everything VK-related in the future.

Confusing but great plot!

Sometimes I'm not sure if the author or the translator messed up, the text is so hard to comprehend. I love the plot since I'm also a fan of Stephanie Meyer's vampire books (Twilight etc). It's like a vampire story for teens (meaning: no erotic vampire scenes), even though there is much blood.
For people who say it's no romance, only blood lust: ever read a vampire story that has love without blood lust? If you don't like don't read. Anyway, since chapter 36 only an idiot could say that it isn't romance.

I'll give it a 10, since it has some really great scenes.

Starts like a Typical Shojo, Ending is Messed Up

I like how when I picked this up as a teen, it was a lot like Fruits Basket , but as it goes deeper into the volumes it becomes a tragedy lol. You have a mary-sue type girly girl who kinda is like a Tohru, but in a vampire setting. The headmaster is a typical shojo manga dad with an effeminate and silly personality and she has two love interests, one of which lives with her, kinda ya know, like Fruits Basket . But then everything goes to shit when you find out Zero is cursed and Kaname and Yuki are related.

Spoiler: and then everyone just dies lol. The headmaster, Zero etc.

Confused.

The story gets confusing at times along the way but that is fine. However, up until the end, the most confusing thing would be who Yuki really loved. Apparently she loved Kaname to the point that after living with Zero she gave up her life for Kaname. Before that, when Kaname "died" as a vampire Yuki and Zero started reconnecting again. This time it was said that she loved Zero. This is just confusing. Or is it that I just want her to choose one even if the other dies?

In addition, who then is the Vampire Knight?
At first I thought it was Zero but things started again to blur... maybe it's really Kaname??

The art is fine, but some characters look really alike.

Yes. this is one of the best vampire stories out their. It's nothing so simple as girl falls in love with a vampire. It's the plot twists that get you. the genuine love triangle that exists between Kaname/Yuuki/Zero. Great read.
