Frustrating

I made it to chapter 66 before dropping this series and I'm surprised I made it that far. Someone said this before, but it just started getting cliche and annoying. Unless you like the same generic trash recycled again and again, don't bother with this series. Oh, and the time skips ruins the story. Typical overly-unrealistic shounen romance. Somebody said this was a mature romance manga. Maybe if you consider a 14-year-old mindset mature, then sure. To put it simply, it's incredibly frustrating to follow if you're an adult that's had any experience with real relationships. It just doesn't make sense. I guess I'll just stick to seinen. This series is boring.

going down the toilet

This manga totally sucks now that Eba is out of the picture. Kirishima is such an annoying goody goody old man it's not very believable that all these girls are just flocking to him trying to jump his bones. I really liked the story up until tokyo. Since then it has just been getting steadily worse.

summary:
Pre-Tokyo I give it a 9 (taking off that point because kirishima is irritating and didn't realize what was right under his undeserving nose). But it was still sweet, cute, fun, wonderful art, all that good stuff.

Post-Tokyo/Eba I give it a 5. I still have to give credit for the great art, but my god the story is SO dull and there is nothing about the current set of characters that makes them likeable or amusing. I am pretty much reading it out of obligation at this point because I'm already so invested and I keep hoping it's going to all of a sudden get better. But so far, it's only been getting worse.

So in the end I will give it a 7, although I currently think of this manga much lower than that.

Dont know why.. and dont know if i like Suzuka better thatn this one... Maybe a little... but then again this manga ist over yet so i cant say... but its good... and it got me up reading many nights, late ones...
And even if you get irritated over a semi stupid character at some point and his turn of luck maybe it still keeps you locked on.
if you like a more mature love, school life, drama manga this is one of them since there aint that many of them out there :/

so far i don't particularly hate it. I'm grateful there isn't anything sports related. What i really like about this manga is the setting, rural country. This is the first I've read that isn't pinned down to the city or suburbs so i kinda like it. Male protagonist is a bit annoying, but not to the extent of hating. Attractive girls and a few cliches but overall, not too shabby.

Excellent drama and romance

Probably would be the best shounen romance I've read yet, if the ending can close properly.
While it's not the most innovative in terms of plot or characters and it does use many clichés, the personalities are exquisitely developed.
Be warned though, it'll be a rollercoaster of emotions with Haruto, the MC.
Admittedly the beginning can turn a lot of readers off. I had to give it a second chance myself because the MC seemed so unrealistically pathetic. The start aside, the story progresses at a leisurely pace going from the troubles of Highschool to the working reality. Many of the twists and relationships are predictable, but some can truly leave you breathless. The artwork is very good, the tact in the sexual aspects is surprisingly respectful, the story is fine and a joy to read.

By the same mangaka who did Suzuka (with a lot less cringe imo), relationships are built, broken and reconstructed in an entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable manner.

I have noticed that this has very little to do with the town in which he lived and who his Nanami Kanzaki? I feel as if i should know that name...hmmm...its right on the tip of my toungue. Yeah, this is a prime example of a manga that got sidetracked trying to fit cliches and doing a very poor job of it. Should have ended way back when he still lived in that town cause now i dont care for the lead and as such i no longer care who he is in love with. Had a strong start but should have ended long ago.

Ok. so if you've read al the way up to the current chapters
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Haruto has dumped asuka and gotten back to Eba. Right now, Seo Kouji has used almost all of the love/drama ideas possible in previous chapters. As the series is right now, I would simply classify this as romance and slice of life from the fact that absolutely nothing is happening. yes they are going on dates and it seems like yet another girl has fallen for Haruto, but his current self is so devoted to Eba nothing is probably going to happen. If something does then Haruto is an asshole, a player, and should go die. Otherwise, i don't see exactly where this manga can go from this point. In Suzuka they managed to get married and have a child, but Kimi no Iru Machi most likely can not have this ending.
The way I see it, There's no way anymore romance drama possible without Haruto suddenly becoming an asshole, a random villian popping up and kidnapping Eba, or Eba dieing/getting into an accident. Personally, I am rooting for the latter. Every time I read a new chapter i have this image of Eba getting hit by a truck or something of the sort. That is the only thing keeping me reading this series, the hope that i can see Haruto's face when Eba dies right in front of his face and how he will make it afterwards. I would think that Haruto would run away from home and find a lover or something, but that's unlikely since the title is "A Town Where You Live," so instead he's probably going to go

crying back to Asuka
This seems like the most interesting future for Haruto and probably is the only way that the mangaka could salvage this series.

Sweet, somber romance drama, turned angsty teenage heartbreak, turned plotless filler

What happened to the manga I picked up 2 years ago on whim?

The story is very atypical, but Seo is a master of his craft and it plays out nicely. A little drama here and there, some slapping, unexpected confessions, etc. But then it moves into the next stage and the story does a complete tonal 180.

What was a sweet tale of romance turns into a bizarre melodramatic slapdash of old sho-ro (shonen romance) cliches (dying lover, fighting for love...). Then when the smoke finally clears and you begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel it happens again only this time a relationship is pulled from the sky and every chapter has become pointless filler.

That being said. The new stuff isn't completely bad,it's just not what I expect from this series. Seo's allowed to write however he wants, but he should at least attempt a little consistency Reading every new chapter has become a chore.

The first arc was outstanding, second was worse but for the most part enjoyable, this new development is just painful. So:

Good Series

A romance novel/manga that is filled with bliss instead of constant drama. It really sets the mood quite well. Sure the story gets slow at some points, to the point where you feel the story is being dragged on, but right when you think that something comes up and keeps your mind going.

For those that have read Suzuka, the female characters look almost exactly the same. Yuzuki looks exactly like Honoka and Nanami (Rin and Asaki (sp?) also) looks exactly like Suzuka. Haruto even looks a bit like Yamato. I was bothered by it at first, but I have completely blocked it out of my mind.

Right now, I feel this is a lot better than Suzuka... but that's probably because the beginning seemed to be a more enjoyable read. But knowing Kouji (the author), a curve ball will be coming right at us just like it did in Suzuka... which was one of things that had made it so great.

I have lots of expectations for this manga, and I know for a fact that the author will deliver.
