The first manga I ever read...
by arion:susumu

...So I'm quite biased. But this is different to most shoujo manga, and, actually, to most of Watase's work (she even said in a side-note in the manga that she didn't normally do just romance, there normally had to be some kind of other plot). I thought it was refreshing. I normally try to stay away from shoujo, but this one is definitely worth a read.

The art was stunning, the series was just the right length, and with just enough comedy to balance the drama. I did actually cry at times, just like a laughed loudly many times. I actually liked it so much that I bought the whole series.

Riiko is cute and funny without being a typical 'every-one loves me' character that seems to be so popular in the shoujo world (something that I really hate). Night is gorgeous and innocent, while Soshi is serious, and yet so sweet. Gaku was pretty awesome, too. It had some interesting sub-plots that, I was happy to find, were played out until the end.

did you even read it properly? She didn't 'end up' with Soshi, and Night was different to all of the other 'robots'. That fact played a massive part in the manga!

I read the first half of this series in Shoujo Beat, and I thought it was cute. When my subscription ran out, though, I didn't pursue the series any farther. I heard the ending from multiple sources so I ended up finishing the series.

So many people are moaning about the ending. But seriously, it wasn't unexpected for me.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Seriously. Machines, no matter how well-built, eventually break down. Laptops need to be replaced every four years, tops. And it was very cute how he burned himself out trying to be perfect for Riiko. In the end, you know that she'd be forced to pick Soshi, and Watase made a lot of effort to make readers "okay" with him. What else did you expect? For Riiko to get old, and Night to stay young? What would people think when they realized he wasn't getting any older? That is definitely -not- a happily-ever-after, and Watase almost always takes that ending.

But while the ending was pretty satisfying for me, I can't help but feel that reading this manga was just a waste of my time. Riiko is the annoying "I'm female but I'm STRONG" heroine who just whines all the time about why everything isn't perfect for her. Then Night is the perfect gentleman, so she becomes happy for a while. It's just this huge fantasy that makes me feel kind of sorry for the mangaka that she was so hard-up for a storyline that she came up with this.

Okay Manga

The beginning and part of the middle was amusing and realistic, then it started to get annoying, and the ending was disappointing. When it got to the middle, it seemed that the author was rushing to get each chapter done. Each chapter lacked something. And I know the mangaka created Riiko to be the way she was, foolish, but it still irked me. Night's a robot, go for Shoshi. I admire both Night and Shoshi for his dedication to Riiko.

when i first saw this one i thought that this one will certainly have an unhappy ending because of the human x robot relationship, but in the end i figured out that even though it didn't had happy ending Watase made your reading worthwhile. this manga maybe cheesy at times, but that's the part that your gonna love about it i recommend it to those people out there who want to have good cry!! a definite must read!!!

Emotional Breakdown
by rikasakagi

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
After finish reading this manga, all I have to say is.

OH MY GAWD! -EMOTIONAL BREAKDOWN- SOOO SADD!

Sheez! I suffered from a whole day of emotional breakdown. Yes, you can say it's pretty stupid. After i finished reading the manga, i CRIED. Literally, right off the spot when i saw Knighto wrapped up in the bag. T____T Knighto, come backkkkkkk! Knight was such a loving and adorable guy. I wished someone like that existed.
I hated how the story ended. At first i read this, and though. "Hmm, Absolute Boyfriend? Sounds interesting." And so i decided to read the first chapter and see how it went. And dang, after the first few chapters, I just had to keep on reading. I was sooo hooked up onto it that I left my homework alone and stayed up late just to read it. It took me two days to read it, because i had school and all. So i read it when i got back from school. During those two days, i totally neglected doing my homework.. and sleeping early.. =.=
The story was really catchy. And the first half of the manga is what made me hooked up into the story. I loved Knight. And I still do, a whole bunch!
Knight.. he's so sweet.. even though he's just a figure.. Knight.. He tried so hard to be a perfect boyfriend for Rikko, and even escaped and went back to Riiko even when he was mal-functioning. That part touched me the most. Even though he was just a figure, he tried really hard to be like a human.
This is one of the most touching manga's. Well for me anways. Just that.. i was really disappointed in the ending. I know, everything doesn't end happily ever after. But this was too much for me(YES I'M A SENSITIVE PERSON!). After being so attached with Knight through out the whole story... him in the end really struck me half broken.... i hated the ending! I cried, and after reading it.. it just made me not want to do anything at all..
One day, i shall create an new "ending option"
For every movie, manga, anime, etc.. before the last most important part of the movie, i'll just have the movie/manga/anime stop. There'll be two options, "Happy ending or Bad/Sad ending", and just have the reader/watcher select whichever one they want... T_T
Just for people like me who can't bare to watch any bad/sad ending..
-EMOTIONAL BREAKDOWN FROM READING ZETTAI KARESHI!!!-
It's been a whole day since i've been affected from it. Now I have to go find and read a "Happy ending" manga to get my mind away from Zettai Kareshi. sad
I would do a minus 1203987129387 on the rating because of the ending... But since I loved everything else, I will give it a PERFECT?!!?

-cries because of the ending T_T-

Mediocre

Reading the summary, I thought this is another story where a desperate and lonely girl would take great lengths to get herself a boyfriend. Whether a human or otherwise, just to have a boyfriend. But the concept of having a "perfect" boyfriend that you can customize according to your tastes tremendously appealed to me so I gave it a shot.

The first volume is interesting in a way that you want to find out how Night will prove to be an absolute great boyfriend to Riiko. I thought I could get past the shallowness of the female lead as I progress through reading it, but I was wrong. The love triangle between Night, Riiko and Soushi gave off instant fun but the magic soon lost its charms in later volumes. Riiko's ficklemindedness got into my nerves. She just can't make up her mind. She'd choose Night today, but she'd sway to Soshi tomorrow. I've never seen such heroine with wavering feelings until Riiko. But, kudos to Night because I was really touched when he learned to develop human feelings to be a great boyfriend to Riiko.

It has a loose and weak ending, the characters weren't developed as I'd have expected. I felt bad for Night, but not for Riiko. It was a light read, recommended for starters, and starters only.

[edit by mod, Warning: Spoilers, ending details]

Well, that was... dissapointing.

I spent the ENTIRE day yesterday reading Zettai Kareshi. Some people told me Watase's work was good, so I wanted to check out a short series... Absolute Boyfriend was 6 volumes long. Imadoki! was also short with 5 volumes, but it was available at my school, so I could read it anytime. Fushigi Yugi [sp?] I heard was also good, but it was 18 volumes long and I wanted to read a series that didn't take longer than 6 hours

I took my time reading, so I took from 6pm till 2am to read the whole thing. I was planning to get off at 12, but since I had taken my time with the stuff, I wasn't done by 12. ^^; And I wanted to know how the series finished, so I kept reading till 2am.

My mom SCREAMED at me for being glued to it all day. She got more upset when I refused to take out the trash because I was reading. XD

As in all romances, normal people decide on a couple to "root" for. I thought Night was one of the most gorgeous things I've ever laid eyes on. So of course I rooted for Night. >_>

I was thinking that she would pick Soshi though - it's normal to pick the "good" guy over the other guy. I mean, Night isn't exactly what you call human.

So imagine my surprise when she rejects Soshi to be with Night. This was around Chapter 29/30. I was all "YES! TAKE THAT FOUR EYES! >DDDDDD"

Chapter 30-31, Riiko and Night are a normal couple, and Soshi's leaving for Spain! AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yay! <33333

BUT THEN IN CHAPTER 32 [last chapter].... NIGHT DIES OUT OF NOWHERE.

WHAT THE HELL?!? D:

My reaction? I wanted to scream and pull my hair out for giving me such a crappy, stupid, ending. I was literally crying. Not because of Night dying, but because of the ending. I want to die.

It's as if Yuu Watase PULLED THE STUPID ENDING out of her ass THE DAY OF HER DEADLINE. I HATE THIS. WHAAAAAAAAAAA. *turns emo*

Somewhere in Japan, Yuu Watase is laughing at me. Watase was probably laughing at us all when she released the last chapter. And the mail she got...

"WTF WATASE? WHYDIDYOUKILLOFNIGHT?!?!"
"I HATE YOUR STUPID ENDING! GIVE ME BACK ALL MY MONEY"
"NIGHTTTTTT!!!!!!!"

And she was laughing at us, and rolling around in everyone's cash... ;__;

Zettai Kareshi was a good mnaga. Just what I'd expecteds from Yuu Watase, but the ending was very heartbreaking. I believe it deserves a ten, but I'll minus .5 because it wasn't an ending I had hoped for.
