cute but serious

Wow, this manga has a lot of potential to be great. Despite of its cute and simple art, which I like, its story contains serious stuff. There is an inter human interaction philosophy behind each of the iris ability. Even though I don't know what is the meaning of word "philosophy" ,LOL. I really hope this manga will turn into an anime someday.

Enjoying what this has to offer

The premise is nothing new, but that doesn't mean its any less interesting and enjoyable.

The story's driving appeal is familiar to me because of its similarity to another manga which I very much enjoyed before, the prematurely cancelled manga Mx0 - where its magic instead of "esp powers" and with more ecchi, incidentally the protagonist also attends a school filled with ability users and has to rely on quick wit and his strong sense of justice to overcome his shortcomings.

I'm looking forward to how this story develops. My expectations for this series is fairly high, considering how much I enjoyed Mx0.

read it first,, BAKA! (lol)
read its category too..
and I don't suggest for you to read the manga that its genre (or its category) doesn't suit you..
if you do - read - some manga that its genre is not the usual one that you read, I suggest you to clear your mind first,, and prepare yourself for anything that will not suit your taste. and if there really is something that doesn't suit you, it was your own fault (that read something that doesn't suit you), if that so, please, you might want hold yourself from giving any bad comments.
But, if it really is the genre that you usually like to read, and you think it's bad. please, don't hold yourself to state it. But, you might want to make your comment, as 'neutral' as possible, so that no new reader will backed out from reading it..

above - just commenting the other comments wink

I don't think they realize it themselves

Bluntly speaking, I don't think the author knows what the implications are when the children possess these 'irises'.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
The ability to see and expose lies, especially when you have more than 2 users to keep themselves in check,
is a terrifying one to possess in a world where dirty businesses, frauds, sleights of hand... are rampant. It is one that will solve any crime in an instant, and turn the fabric of society upside down. There would be a
Spoiler (highlight to view)
'liar testing room'
in every city or something. Some would rather
Spoiler (highlight to view)
become mutes than speak
in a world where that ability is considered to be normal.

But the list doesn't stop there. There are irises that can more or less
Spoiler (highlight to view)
predict the future, how a person's life might turn out or incoming dangers
, as well as other incredible ones yet to be discovered. The government, the military and some of the iris wielders themselves would never pass up the chance of utilizing them. Military, economy, legislature, social welfare.... all will have to be rethought. Why, how such a society can work is beyond me. For me it is a vital and far more interesting issue that dwarfs whatever interpersonal drama and existential angst these kids might be going through.

But if you're not that gung-ho about such things and want your school life romance fix with a touch of supernatural powers, this series is more than adequate, and so far it has done a good job of creating a nice atmosphere that does not feel repulsive like some shounen harem series that shall not be named. I'd never know this was seinen if I hadn't looked at the tag honestly.

A nice read

I wouldn't call this series spectacular (to me, Planetes is the end all of end all, but this isn't event he same genre), but it certainly does a very good job of presenting an interesting world and characters that you can care, or come to care about. As said by a previous reviewer, the premise isn't anything new, but it isn't something that's used fairly often. Usually, it's the inverse, so reading something where everyone else is special, and the main character isn't (and by extension is), is very refreshing. I also like the fact that the first chapter hints at a possible love triangle a bit of future darkness. While I generally dislike convoluted romantic plots, I'm optimistic this one will take a much more slice of life approach to things.

Pretty darn average, same hole filled formula to propel the story forward you see in most manga.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
The main character despite wanting to stay under the radar befriends everyone, even an old friend who he ended up hating because she made his life miserable, he just forgives her like nothing.

With the powers it makes it interesting to read and the main character is a very insightful person but otherwise the relationship side of the manga is boring as hell.

Future of this manga

this manga really remember another one MxO
its the same concept (till now), and i really enjoyed =]

but idkn about the future...i have 2 ideas...

1-the autor will keep non-fighting manga. But for this he will need to be ultra smart and have thousands of really good ideas, if he doesnt this manga will be dropped cause this type of pace can be really booring...one good exemple of good story like this is natsume yuujinchou (it has a few fights, but mainly it flows peacefully).
2-the autor will sometime transfer this manga to an battle-shounen manga. In this case it will need less ideas, and will expand the uses of powers. If used the wrong way can be dropped like MxO (not that i agree with mxo being dropped).

I DID NOT TALK ABOUT HOW THE MANGA IS TILL NOW CAUSE THERE STILL FEW RELEASES.
so...there is not much to talk...but the future prospect of the manga is more wider..so i choose to talk about this

Updated: 18/01/2011
Well i think that the mangaka went with the first idea...
and like i thought...its brilliant =]
i really liked this few last chapters, even the side stories, which i normally dont even read.

The high ratings of this manga are misleading. The concept of this manga is not original. The characters are quite clichéd (especially the main girl). And so far, the outcomes of each 'arc' have been predictable.

However, I've given this manga a higher rating than I had originally intended to, because I find the observation skills of Toru utterly interesting. The artwork is clean, although not brilliant. I also like how the mangaka emphasises that people rely too much on their powers, whilst ironically the kid 'without power' saves the day. Nice and cheesy moral.

But honestly, if you're looking for a true mind-boggling manga; read Liar Game.
For amazing character developement; read Onani Master Kurosawa.
For analysing the psychological aspect of an insane person; read Monster.

The three manga I've mentioned above are what deserves a '10'. Iris Zero can hardly compare.

oh man, in the beginning of the story, it gave off good vibes, nice storyline, so I thought well i'll give it a try, so far its good until ch 28, then, there goes another bad-romance-manga-storyline
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
to be simple, another girl joined, main heroine got jealous, the new girl confessed, main hero tried to get rid of the new girl, his act made a new misunderstanding with main heroine, main heroine cried and left

oh man, please dont make this series into another roller-coaster-romance

my rating used to be 9/10, but now its 7/10

I was like OMFG, this series gets higher ratings then Akira, than it must be pretty amazing! Too bad this ain't true. I haven't got the faintest idea why this is called seinen because the characters (high school kids) lack depth as well as development. Without the main character the story would break down like a house of cards. This is because the episodic story is about him deducting riddles about the behaviour of others and their specialities. If you don't expect a masterpiece and feel like reading shounen it would be a good read though.
